Notes and Comments

BFC and Lemonjello’s GWS Giants are still undefeated and at the top of the ladder. The game against the Suns was a good test, but they pulled away late as good teams do. I’m really liking them this year!

My Geelong Cats are also undefeated yet they are fifth on the ladder. To be fair, they haven’t been as impressive as the Giants. I can’t wait until these two teams play each other! It should be noted that Hippo’s Blues are also undefeated and looking prettay prettay prettay good.

It was a good week for Footy Tipping as most tippers got at least 7 correct. Keep up the good work, y’all!

Thank you to all the DFOers that have become Founding Members of the Tasmania Devils! Details for the new team are here: Tasmania! If you want a founding membership, go here! If you become a Founding Member, you have the exclusive opportunity to buy the Foundation Guernsey.

It comes out to $80 American including shipping. Not a bad deal.

If you haven’t become a member of a club or signed up for the Watch AFL app, you can still watch the games in the USA on either FS1 or FS2 and in Canada on TSN. Showtimes can be found here on the Australian Football Association of North America website.

Don’t forget to put the Footy Tips in!

See you next week!

Balls somehow lost his bio and didn't realize it. He's now scrambling to write something clever and failing. He likes butts, boobs, most things that start with the letter B, and writing in the Second Person. Geelong, Toluca, Barcelona, and Steelers, in that order.

Game Time Decision

For the last few years I cannot remember which team I picked a few years ago to follow and thus don’t follow anyone.

Thanks
you are far more organized that I am. And props on having a list at the ready.

BrettFavresColonoscopy

Now we just need to find those lost commentists….

Doktor Zymm

I would just point out that by picking St Kilda I probably condemned them to years of fluctuation between almost good and complete garbage. I get the feeling they probably would have done that anyway, but it’s nice to feel like I have a personal hand in their future mediocrity!

Gumbygirl

I’m pretty sure I picked either the Swans or the Magpies, because I like swans and magpies. But I don’t understand the game, so it doesn’t really matter!

Gumbygirl

Magpies. What list? Does this involve work of any kind? Because I am not down for that, no sireebob!

BrettFavresColonoscopy

Great, now you’re on…..THE LIST

BrettFavresColonoscopy

Also fuck the pies

BugEyedBoo

Every time I watch one of those highlight videos, I think that I should start watching AFL. That’s what rugby wants to be when it grows up.

Game Time Decision

every time I watch a game, I’m confused, so want the ref to explain every call like I’m 5, and then have 3 or 4 people that talk about each play endlessly, whilst showing the replay of whatever they are talking about, while waiting for the next play.

BrettFavresColonoscopy

Why don’t we do a DFO live blog/Q&A?

Saints are who we thought they were!!

Observations I took away from the games I watched this week:

The Suns are solid and that game was a lot closer than the final score indicated. Mac Andrews was a beast and if it weren’t for some brilliant early play by Jesse Hogan, late beautiful footy from Toby (including a perfectly executed give and go with Brett Daniels) and the usual excellence from Sam Taylor, that game could have gone the other way.

Harley Reid is legit and the Eagles hung rough for 3 quarters before dumb mistakes (turnovers and 50 meter penalties) blew that game open the other way

St. Kilda looked like hot garbage in the first half and then figured it out, which is what good teams do. I was impressed by how they took Dusty Martin out of the game and controlled the second half. They’re a contender (until Litre tells me they’re just going to choke it away down the stretch).

The Swans are good and Grundy is better than I expected this season coming off the failed Melbourne experiment, but it’s really about Erroll Gulden and (to a lesser extent) Isaac Heeney. As they go, so go the Swans. Also you can see why they offered Erroll a 10 year (!) contract and why he said nah I’ll take 4 and get more money later.

Other than Norf and Riki’s Bombers, no one got blown out which is a good sign for the AFL this season. Could be chalk this week but there’s good competition in the, well, comp.

In conclusion, this game is a land of contrasts and you should all be watching!

litre_cola

There will be no choking they are the most middling team to ever middle.

Another great way to get into this game is to follow through Balls’s highlights videos and see th AFL’s weekly roundups. Mark of the week, last two minutes of tight games, etc.
