Wumbo Wednesday With Weaselo: With Bated Breath…

Definitely not that bated, heads out of the gutter. South American (and also Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Panama and the U.S.) Euros start tomorrow night, for nightcap footy!

Honestly, if they did a full Americas tourney, I’d figure make it 32 teams, not 16. Wait, there are only 10 teams in CONMEBOL. Never mind! (Well, 11 with Rand McNally…)

News!

-Well, the first one, of course, is the passing of Willie Mays last night at the age of 93. Baseball icon, New York icon, San Francisco icon. They can continue arguing about who was the best of the three in the Golden Age in the hereafter now. Willie, Mickey, and the Duke. (It’s Willie, in part because Mickey tore his ACL his rookie year which took his speed and also the alcoholism.) It’s especially rough because the Giants and #BFIB are playing tomorrow at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, where Mays got his start with the Black Barons.

-The misprint on the Chefs’ rings is a whole lot of nothing, and if anything, makes them more unique, says Travis Kelce. I don’t know if “had a typo” is the unique you’re going for. Now, if it was the mark-up version, and then they had fixed it and made the real ones correct, then it would be more unique and valuable, if Pawn Stars has taught me anything.

-Speaking of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City, Kansas is looking to find a way to weasel both the Chiefs and Royals to their side of the city, as opposed to where they currently play, Kansas City, Missouri. Wow, they will do anything to try and fix Agent Orange’s mistakes.

-Arthur Blank is adding himself to the Falcons Ring of Honor. Also Matt Ryan, but that’s not as billionaire ego-groanworthy.

Crapfully done by me.

So, since there’s no basketball later, no hockey until Friday (because McJesus is working his way up through the Gretzky rankings), and the South American Euros start tomorrow… what’s on?

Senor’s Primal Rage
The one where Gerrit Cole’s first pitch of the season will probably go into Gunnar Henderson’s ribcage after Judge got hit in the hand last night (BAL vs. NYY, 7:00, Amazon Prime)

Canadian Premieur League Action?
York United FC vs. Pacific FC (7:00, FS2)

MLS is on Apple TV and FS1, so no one cares there. Yeah, it’s a local listings kind of night.

Senor Weaselo
Senor Weaselo plays the violin. He tucks it right under his chin. When he isn't doing that, he enjoys watching his teams (Yankees, Jets, Knicks, and Rangers), trying to ingest enough capsaicin to make himself breathe fire (it hasn't happened yet), and scheming to acquire the Bryant Park zamboni.

Temu is kinda scary

They used to have these creepy ads on Duolingo where the spokesmodel sounded like she didn’t understand English and was simply speaking it phonetically, the same way that Jet Li did in Romeo Must Die.

Okay, so I got a little high and watched Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe. It wasn’t quite as good as the original movie, but it made me laugh plenty, so I have zero complaints.

Also, I had burritos.

TheRevanchist

Tell me more about these burritos.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Very well. The tortillas were the uncooked ones from Costco (I cook them via frying pan; you have to be careful or they will inflate and fail to cook evenly) with a bit of Mexican cheese melted on once they were cooked. The meat was some leftover sous vide-ed tri-tip I defrosted yesterday, browned in the same pan. I also put in some black beans (made with a bit of beef boullion) and rice (made with chicken stock), and then some fried jalapeno chips, avocado, green salsa, full fat yogurt, and a little Tapatio. I’d have liked to add lettuce or even cilantro but neither one is mature enough to pluck from the garden just yet.

Watching Dune II. I would make a great Kwisatch Haderach, because I totally walk across the desert without rhythym.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

susanna hoffs was one of the original desert walkers ppl forget that

Dunstan

I beg your pardon, but Susanna Hoffs is unforgettable.

You ever think, fuck man, I could go for some stroopwaffels?

Doktor Zymm

All the damn time. I don’t buy them because I would eat them all right away

Had a nice 2.5 hour nap this afternoon, but after a mere 3 hours awake I think I’m ready for bed again. Tuesday night red eyes when I wake up at 5:45 on Wednesdays for the gym and then horseback is no bueno.

My excited news… 6 weeks after planting the first produce is coming in. Zucchini and beets… Let the seasonal dishes cooking begin. Cucumbers and celery will ready soon, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant in late July.

Doktor Zymm

Yum! You got some dill growing back there too?

2Pack

I certainly do.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Speaking of produce…

MY FIRST PASSION FRUIT IS ON THE WAY!

Dunstan

By “yours” do you mean you plucked it from someone else’s tree?

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

The vine came from a cutting I made of someone else’s vine, yes.

I told him as much when I saw him outside one time, and he was perfectly cool about it. I did not bother to mention that one of the reasons I chose his vine to make a cutting from is because we’ve taken like thirty of them over the years and they were worth trying to grow at home.

That said, I doubt he would have minded us grabbing passion fruit that grew out over the sidewalk. The vine takes up half their yard, so they undoubtedly get as many as they want.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Also worth mentioning that growing them from cuttings isn’t difficult; you just mainly have to keep them wet* and they’ll do fine. And the young vines cost like $30 at the farmers market, so it was definitely worth putting in the effort.

Warm weather has arrived in LA, and so it’s time for some summery beverages. Picked up some watermelon juice and am looking at cocktail recipes.

In the meantime, I have a Slow Fade, which is a gin, Lillet rose, creme de violette and lemon juice concoction.

Dunstan

The “Miami Martini” (vodka, simple syrup, campari, lemon juice, watermelon) isn’t a bad start.

Kings got rid of albatross Pierre-Luc-Jean-Claude-Grenouille-Connard Dubois for a goalie named Darcey. Whatever, good trade.

fleshwound_NPG

a goalie that won a stanley cup. with one good eye!

A hood is approximately 84% more likely.

I may disagree (diagnosis – JELLY) but yeah, that’s pretty funny
