Notes and Comments
I said last week that Collingwood is pretty clearly the best team in the competition. I stand by that statement even though Geelong beat them in the Game of the Year. Truth be told, it could have easily gone the other way. The Pies had a kick after the siren to win. Unfortunately for them, it went Wide Right and Geelong escaped with the win. Everyone is waiting for them to meet again in Finals.
Gold Coast versus Brisbane was supposed to be the Game of the Week, but the Lions handled the Suns pretty easily. Gold Coast is still inside the Eight and they’re a solid team, so I wouldn’t feel too badly for them. This is another rematch I expect come Finals time.
GWS is reeling. They lost the Sydney Derby even though they fought hard throughout. I watched most of that game and it seems they have one piece missing but it’s hard to tell what it is. Individually, the pieces are there, but they’re not putting it together. If/when they do, they will be challenging for the Premiership.
West Coast is still winless after they lost to a pretty bad Melbourne team at home. Can they beat an even shittier Richmond team at the MCG? Seems like a tough task…
Next week, the marquee game is Suns v Western in Darwin. That game is fun to watch just because of the stadium. It looks like they’re playing a major professional league game at the local rec center.
We have a four-way tie for first place! I am one behind in second with BFC just one further back in third. It’s super close and even those in the back of the pack can catch up.
If you are a member of an AFL club or you got a Watch AFL membership, you should be able to watch every AFL and AFLW game, including replays. Game times vary between Australian afternoon and evening, which actually makes it easier for us in North America to watch as the games can be seeing in the evenings on Pacific Time and early mornings on Eastern time.
If you haven’t become a member of a club or signed up for the Watch AFL app, you can still watch the AFL and AFLW games in the USA on either FS1 or FS2 and in Canada on TSN. Showtimes can be found here on the Australian Football Association of North America website. But I do recommend that you join a club. It’s fun and they send you free shit.
See you next week!
