TGIF! The season is here! Finally! But this is no off season endeavor. No sir, this is all year, every Friday or your money and DFO stocks back.

Word Count Filler Time

Here’s a fun one: Sellouts! What’s better than fame? More money!

The Who
Here’s a good one to start with. Back in 1967 they released an album called The Who Sell Out as a sarcastic take on selling out. The album cover included a couple of fake ads with Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey.

Of course, 30 years later, the selling out actually began. Several songs were used in advertisements for Nissans, Hummers, and allergy medicine. Then of course CSI came calling and “Who Are You” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again” are now more popular as TV theme songs.

Sir Laurence Olivier
Olivier was a classically trained actor and deemed to be above doing commercials. But in 1972, there he was as the TV spokesperson for Polaroid cameras. He then began taking any job offered him which landed him in some truly terrible movies like Clash of the Titans and Inchon. Of course, calling him a sellout isn’t really appropriate. Turns out he was diagnosed with a serious muscle disorder and was told he could die at any time from the disease, so he was taking all these jobs to make sure his family was financially secure should be pass. He even understood the situation and appeared in the music video “Just for Money” in 1986.

Jerry Rubin
Jerry was an artist in the 1960s and an influential member of the counterculture movement. He helped found the Youth International Party (called the “Yippies”) and indicted for his part in organizing protests at the 1968 DNC. Jerry got tired of the being a broke artist and in the 1970s turned into a stock trader and business man and made a fortune in the health food craze of that decade. His former Yippie friends were not impressed and coined a new term named Yuppie (young urban professional) to specifically mock him.

Enough of the sellouts, I’ve got a tennis match to tune into. Let’s go!

The greatest “selling-out” put on film. Just like one of the comments states, I’m going to tell my kids this is Citizen Kane.

Bogdanski

There’s some acceptable “selling out”. Michael Caine re: Jaws 4: , “I haven’t seen it, but I’ve seen the house it bought my mother, and it’s marvelous.”

Zombie Big East match in it’s later stages. BAWSTAHN CAWLEDGE doubling up Rutgers, 28-14 with about seven left in regulation.

SCHIANOMEN staring down an 0-2 start, with the B1G schedule looming. Rutgers may be back to their Big East days where 2-10 was a regular occurance.

WCS

UPDATE: SCHIANOMEN have pulled within a touchdown. 28-17, 5:06 left.

WCS

Since I can’t do maths (just like Rutgers!), the score is 28-21. That’s your final, and on this throwback to the Big East match, Rutgers looking every bit like their 1990s-mid 2000s squadrons.
