Notes and Comments
Sydney is just on a tear. They are not only beating teams, they are consistently blowing them out. Fremantle and Hawthorn are also sitting on just one loss, but they’re not even close to the Swans on percentage.
I still don’t believe Melbourne is any good. They are in fourth place right now, but I see that as a product of playing the right teams at the right time. It’s still early and they very well might prove me wrong, but I don’t see it.
Somewhat in the same boat is Gold Coast. They were supposed to be good this year yet they lost big time to Hawthorn in Tasmania. They will need to right the ship against GWS next week or rush this season spiraling out of control.
Speaking of GWS, they finally got a victory against a team above them in the ladder. They reminded North Melbourne that they haven’t turned the corner quite yet. Yes, there was a controversial non-call at the end, but GWS was going to win anyway. If the Giants can beat Gold Coast, this season may be salvaged yet.
Finally, Port Adelaide pulled the surprise of the week in overcoming a 20+ point deficit to blow out the Cats. The big concern for Geelong is the health of Mark Blicavs, who is their everything player. He and Tom Stewart are the heart of this team and any time lost will be difficult to compensate for.
Spam has taken over sole possession of first place in the Tipping Contest with another 8 out of 9 performance. I am now up to 7th thanks to BFC going to France and forgetting to put his tips in. Don’t forget to put the tips in!
If you are a member of an AFL club or you got a Watch AFL membership, you should be able to watch every AFL and AFLW game, including replays. Game times vary between Australian afternoon and evening, which actually makes it easier for us in North America to watch as the games can be seeing in the evenings on Pacific Time and early mornings on Eastern time.
If you haven’t become a member of a club or signed up for the Watch AFL app, you can still watch the AFL and AFLW games in the USA on either FS1 or FS2 and in Canada on TSN. Showtimes can be found here on the Australian Football Association of North America website. But I do recommend that you join a club. It’s fun and they send you free shit.
See you next week!
