The big surprise I was referring to was GWS beating the league leading Fremantle Sockets. It was the Giants’ best performance of the year. The Dockers did not play badly. They were simply outplayed. Does that mean there is a formula for beating them? We shall find out in the coming weeks.
Brisbane’s victory over Geelong in Geelong was notable in the margin and the fact it was in Geelong. The Cats are usually unbeatable at home. The Lions finally looked like defending champions. The Cats need to improve fast it they will be in danger of missing finals.
Another big surprise was Melbourne beating the Hawks handily. Hawthorn is in third, but the cushion over the rest of the pretenders is now down to only 2 points. A further slip up could see them out of the Top Six as there is a big group tied on 40 points.
Carlton almost lost to Richmond in one of their worst games of the year. I suppose they were due for a letdown against one of the teams in the league, but they cannot afford to let that happen again.
Speaking of the worst teams in the league, Essendon got destroyed by St. Kilda. Looking at the scoreboard, you would think the Saints were really good but Essendon is really that bad.
Finally, Hawthorn at #3 is only 8 points (2 games) ahead of #11 North Melbourne. That means that the fight for finals places will be extremely fierce in these last few weeks if the regular season. Maybe expanding the playoff field was not that bad of an idea…
Yeah Right got one point back on Spam as he got 6 correct. He’s only 3 points back of Spam and still plenty of games left. Sharky lost major ground and is now 3 points back of Yeah Right after a bad week. Don’t forget to put the tips in!
If you are a member of an AFL club or you got a Watch AFL membership, you should be able to watch every AFL and AFLW game, including replays. Game times vary between Australian afternoon and evening, which actually makes it easier for us in North America to watch as the games can be seeing in the evenings on Pacific Time and early mornings on Eastern time.
If you haven’t become a member of a club or signed up for the Watch AFL app, you can still watch the AFL and AFLW games in the USA on either FS1 or FS2 and in Canada on TSN. Showtimes can be found here on the Australian Football Association of North America website. But I do recommend that you join a club. It’s fun and they send you free shit.
See you next week!
