Those Massholes had their parade today.

As expected, Kyle Shanahan is the new head coach of the 49ers.

It snowed AGAIN last night.

That’s five days in a row, in a city that normally doesn’t see that much in a winter. So you can imagine the drivers & road conditions.

Police in Victoria stopped a guy using a zamboni to try and clear his street.

That he wasn’t booked for DUI or photographed with a double-double (it is “Roll Up the Rim” season after all) keeps this from being the most Canadian story of the year.

That’s okay though. It’s Day 2 of DFO’s “Super Bowl Recovery Program”.

Hi, my name’s Beerguy, and I have a problem. A problem with rage.

Day 1 was admitting the pain, accepting that “HOW’D THOSE FUCKERS DO THAT?!” and “WHAT THE FUCK, GOD?!” are valid & real emotions. It’s good to feel that way, because it forces you to admit that you feel something. Even if that something is rage.

There are many ways people express rage:

Remember that these are all temporary conditions. We arrived there because of choices we made or didn’t make. We chose to watch the game. We chose to believe in Patriots schadenfreude. Kyle Shanahan chose to call a fucking five-step drop on a third-and-one when he had Devonta Freeman RIGHT THERE…

This was about a year before I saw them live for the first time. Saw em twice at soldier field and once at the rosement horizon (think Waynes World plane scene). Didn’t catch on to them until they were just about ready to start pumping out bullshit, but at least I caught a few amazing shows first. Ben Harper and Ozamatili opened the first show I saw, and I wish I’d gone on the second day because Al Fucking Green came out and performed with them. Girl at my bank that I had a crush on saw that show and told me about it. Saw them again at the Rosemont, and then once more at Soldier Field before I packed up and headed to sunny FLA. Second SF show was supposed to be opened by Macy Gray, but she cancelled and it was Buddy Guy instead. I fucking love Buddy and want to brag about how this was the best show I’ve ever seen, but the truth is we got there late and I don’t think we caught even a minute of his performance. 22 year old me didn’t care that much, 36 year old me fucking hates 22 year old me for missing that. Haven’t seen them since because they’ve churned out shitty studio albums since 2000. But goddamn were they unvelievable for about a decade. There was nothing else like them going on, and it was all about the live shows (kinda like the Dead).

I’m sick, and it sucks. This is the first time I’ve really ever been sick and single. No one to fawn over me, no one to make me comfy, not even any family around. I had to make my own soup for fucks sake. I mean, I bought broth from the chinese joint to save myself some hassle, but it still sucks chopping veggies and stripping chickens and cooking when you’re sick. I even had to shut down a pretty sure thing last night when a new friend came by to visit because I knew I didn’t have the lungs for it. Also cause it’s pretty gross to be snorting snot back into your head while you’re trying to get laid. This cold is bad enough that I’ve been having to put orange juice into my booze like some kinda goddamn dancing nancy. I either need to get healthy quick or find a new girlfriend. Fuck you rhinovirus, fuck you and your horn (or maybe both your horns depending on your continent of origin… I don’t discriminate).

Sorry to ramble here (again, booze, nyquil, phenibut, ambien, I think you get the point), but that dancing nancy comment made me remember what a seriously kick ass group Dave Matthews Band was for about the first ten years, and how abhorrently fucking awful they’ve been since. I can’t stand a single thing they’ve put out since Crowded Streets, but holy shit those first few albums were ridiculous. Live at Red Rocks is still one of my favorite albums, even if I don’t think to listen to it as often as I should. They were an incredible live band and I’d almost consider seeing them still today just to see what kind of live show they build around the awful pop they’ve been pumping out on to studio albums for the last 18 years. Holy fucking balls does that make me feel old.

Alright. I’ve been mulling this for a coupla days. Here goes.

The Super Bowl was goddamn wonderful. I enjoyed ATL dominating the Pats physically on both sides of the ball in the first half. And Brady getting antsy and the sloppy NE last possession of the 2nd quarter got me all “Boy, those are 14-2 paper tigers”. Then I got gloat-y when Gostkowski missed the extra point and was besides myself at the failed onside kick. Never really enjoy blowouts, but this was fackin’ sweet. Then I saw the Pats we’re accustomed to seeing: they got the stop after the onside; the offense wearing down the defense; much better protection; Brady getting way comfortable; and, for the life of me, I don’t remember the last time I saw a team score 16 in two possessions. And that Edelman catch was otherwordly–even in slow motion his hands were cat-fast. I stepped out for a cigarette before the coin toss, heard the Pats won it, and I had another because I knew the game was over.
I won’t praise the Pats, but I can’t bring myself to hate determination and excellent pro football.

I love hating the Patriots; it is enjoyable; they make a great foil. The owner, coach, and QB being Trumpeters helps a lot. Other guys one the team are NFL players, with the exception of the few felons I have no problem with. In my experience, anecdotal both in person and reading comments is that the fans have the highest percentage of assholes, every team has a high percentage, but the term Massholes was coined for a reason.

You misunderstand the happiness part completely; most people here have gotten pretty beat down in the last 365 and looked forward to the possibility of seeing their foil get beat in the big game. You certainly don’t get the level of joy we get by hating the villain in the movie, but that’s just it; we all know it’s a fucking movie.

Just got a call from a site in Malaysia. I tell the guy to call customer service…and then I recognize the voice from one of the guys I worked with over there for a while.

We discuss the problem. I suggest he check a couple of things. Turns out it was an E-stop pressed by one of the operators and said operator forgot to release it. Took maybe 10 minutes to figure out and clear.

Then spent the next 30 minutes catching up with him about his wife and kids, football, etc.

These are my usual interactions with customers.

Had some all day training at work today which requires my entire sales team to fly in. Yesterday, one guy flew in from Connecticut, and made his entrance to the office known. He’s typically a good guy, and I don’t terribly blame him for being excited.

As he reached insufferable levels, wondering loudly to anyone who would listen, which T-shirt he should buy, he suddenly saw me and showed a shred of humanity.

“I’m sorry, Low Commander. Here I am, counting my rings, and you don’t have a team anymore.”

He seemed sincere, and I appreciated it. So when he walked in this morning and sat right behind me, I was a bit surprised when he came up to me and jammed a newspaper into my hand, exclaiming: “Here’s yesterdays Hartford Courant’s front page, in case you missed it!”

I just got an email from a higher up at the company, with an attached email from the French dude where he rips me apart for not responding in a professional manner, not addressing their issues in a timely fashion, and not knowing anything about DC equipment in general. There was significant cursing towards myself and my employer in general.

From my boss’ boss.

“JSD I just got this email. Who is this asshole?”

I send off a reply, basically explaining who this guy is, the relationship we have with them as a customer (we don’t have one), and their exact technical issues. Unlike a fucking moron, I am extremely professional in my correspondence and do not share my personal views of said customer.

Boss fires back immediately.

“I need this clowns cell phone number NOW. You are to block his number from your cell phone and have zero contact with anyone from their company”

You know…if I knew it was this easy…I would have just handed out the contact information for our Head Engineer for North America as soon as the guy showed up last week.

Please bare in mind, the vast majority of our customers are extremely professional and very easy (abet as easy when dealing with very complex and expensive industrial overhauls) to deal with.

So I am in the shower and I get a phone call. I let it go to voice mail. I listen to it after I get out and its from the piece of shit customer that was here last week.

It consisted of him cussing me out because i have not gotten back to him with the same information I had when he was fucking here. Basically on a DC drive, if you have the encoder (speed sensor) correctly wired to the drive, but the sensor is physically disconnected from the motor, the drive will momentarily overspeed the motor until it trips on field overcurrent. This is a problem with all DC motors and drives.

The fucker starts rambling that his people tell him that their previous drives had protection against this (they don’t). I also have to point out that this is a fucking electrical engineer that didn’t know what a thyristor was…so his people could tell him the bus work gives you creamy yogurt if you lick it when it was live and we would have a fried French guy.

Do any of you have kids that are huge front runners? My 8 year old son has watched Avs and Blackhawks games with me since he was born, basically. Today he told me he is a die-hard Canadiens fan (we are going to Canadiens @ Avs tonight). Last year, he rooted for the Panthers because of Cam Newton, even though he has lived in Denver for more than half his life. He has told me I am dumb for being a Bears fan because they are terrible (this is . . . reasonable). I should ground him or something, right?
