One can enthusiastically thank the Bruins for having the only, um, photogenic cheer/dance squad in this opening Day-Day session.  That said, they had a pretty grueling run in the PAC-12 tourney, and face the most difficult travel of any of tonight’s participants.  Advantage, Bonnies.  I like the winner to make the Sweet Sixteen, FWIW.  One thing to note – St. Bonaventure is absolutely brutal from the foul line, and can cough up a late lead like nobody’s business.  This one ain’t over until the horse is all the way in the barn.  UCLA could be worth one of those high-odds live “come from behind to win” bets.  Just sayin’…

One of my favorite memories from when I was a kid was when my mom was the TA for an elderly physics professor at the local community college and he sent her and a +1 (me) in his stead to a reception before a guest lecture up in Salt Lake by Dr. Hawking. This was right after “A Brief History of Time” was published. It’s a true testament to how big of a nerd a 12-year-old Col. Duke LaCross was that it’s still one of the highlights of my life that I actually got to meet and kinda shake the hand of the smartest man on the planet.

Nerd in this case is a huge compliment. The anti-intellectual movement/ trend, what ever it is, is astounding to me. I’m glad you got to experience that at an age where it made that kind of impression. I had kind of a similar thing just watching Sagan on TV.

I don’t get it either. Being well read used to be something we all aspired to be. Now it’s almost shunned in greater society. I’m still a sucker for anything involving astronomy. I drive my boss nuts when I switch off the golf channel on the TV in the shop for NASA or the Science Channel.

With many of these frontier breakers what amazes me is the mental discipline, mathematical and observational genius combined with imagination. Science and history are to me some of best “entertainment”; NOVA on PBS is one of my favorite shows. I enjoy reading some of these books even when in my head I’m thinking “WAAAAAT is he/she talking about??”

In the PA special election, Conor Lamb (D) leads Rick Saccone (R) by 755 total votes, with 98% in. There’s approximately 6000 absentee ballots to be counted.

I don’t know we’ll know the result of this tonight. However, even if Lamb loses, this district voted 2-1 for Trump, and Romney by 17%. The Congressman who held this seat resigned after it came out he wanted his mistress to get an abortion. Shockingly, that guy was very vocal about how Christian and pro-life he was!
Anyway, the Republicans have run unopposed in this district for a decade. It being this close should terrify the GOP.

The Dems will despite their best efforts to fuck up (by say, referring to people at proportion of the GDP) will probably retake the house, albeit with a slim margin.

Of course, they’re going to run people like Lamb who won’t budge on gun control and “personally” oppose abortion. Then they’ll vote like Doug Jones does and we’ll be lectured about how they need to do that to win reelection and in 2022 they’ll all lose anyway.
