Homecoming

I’m home from traveling. But I’m tired. I’m still stressed out. I’m way sleep deprived. And I have to leave again in two weeks.

Most of which is my own fault, admittedly. But not for much longer. Not if I can help it.

And I’m giving myself solace with music. And maybe a bit of alcohol and weed. Allegedly.

But this week, I’m grabbing the low hanging fruit. Sorry, not sorry.

We’re doing two of my favorite musical acts this week (both of which get me made fun of more often than not). It’s….

Don’t Be A Hater

Not too long ago I had a friend (“had” being the key word there) who fancied herself the best singer ever on the planet. She claims she once made out with Gwen Stefani, though I don’t know if that’s true or not. (Gwen will get her own week fairly soon, btw)

Oh yes. Oh yes indeedy she will. Get yourself prepared, Gwen.

Anywhoooo…

This “friend” recently tried to re-enter my life. But she didn’t make a particularly good effort. Fucked it up completely, in fact.

And admittedly, she is a good singer. She has/had a wonderful voice. Great range. But her hatred for other female singers, and other people in general actually, is the main reason why she’s now bouncing around the east coast with no gig, and living in a van with a guy who doesn’t know how to play the guitar. She had a regular gig at a club in NY. She could have become something. If she’d learned to not hate and not burn her bridges. The club owner in NY got tired of her and kicked her out. Which is exactly what she (the club owner) should have done.

She hated others to the point she couldn’t shut up about it. Now, instead of singing in the club and getting a steady paycheck, and maybe even getting a shot at a recording contract at some point, she’s living in a van, down by the river. Like seriously. Living in a van.

Nice job.

The point being….

Hate never hurts the person/people you’re hating nearly as much as it hurts yourself. Even if just in an emotional toll on you. And sometimes, if it’s bad enough, it can really fuck up your own life.
