Hey man, thanks for this weeks Gravy. The Carne Guisada is fucking fantastic. I’ve taken ideas from your recipes before, but this was the first time I used one in full. I’ve never had Guisada before so I didn’t want to toy around with it. Made a big pot the other night for me to eat here at work all weekend and goddamn does it hit the spot. I’m actually eating some right now. I think I might have to hide the rest of it to keep my g/f from killing it.
Aussie rules footbaw is on! Good, now I don’t have to give Sportsnet their precious viewership for the NHL playoffs.
Anyone else watching Adelaide v Freemantle? I’ll be honest, I’ve never heard of Freemantle before. Are they a team that got promoted recently? Or are they like the Jacksonville Jaguars of the AFL?
I drove taxi for awhile in Barstow California, yes Barstow. It was the mid way point between Vegas and LA and more than one person either broke down driving out got stopped driving somewhere in between.
Got a call from the sheriff’s substation for a pickup that needed to go to the impound yard out in Yermo, that’s about a 35 dollar cab ride away. This is the place where they towed your car if you were pulled over and arrested.
He wasn’t arrested but his driver was.
Pick them up late at night, they were nice as could be. It’s about a half hour ride out there and we’re bull shitting the whole way me totally oblivious to who the passengers were. We get there, I drop then off and as he comes around to the drivers side window to pay I said “Little Richard!”
He replied “Now you notice?”
Really nice human being and tipped pretty damn well too.
Now ask me about my James Ingram story.

It was all sad music, all day. Stupid fucking 80’s stuff seems like remedy to that. I danced around to WCS’s back the the future one already.
For some reason there’s a Sean Taylor highlights video in the default playlist for this video. I mean one of the lyrics is “It was a brown eyed handsome man, that won the game, it was a brown eyed handsome man”
Dok’s 60s Adult Contemporary playlist makes me feel guilty for putting this up.
But not enough to NOT put this up.
Alice in Chains – Would https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nco_kh8xJDs
WBS, how are you still up? I mocked you this afternoon. Suffered though an unwatchable draft night. Sort of unceremoniously fell asleep and then woke up to find you still awake. I mean first, nice work on the staying up drunk. I just don’t know why
Actually…I took a break from drinking and went and watched baseball.
Which really doesn’t explain how I’m still awake now that I think about it.
At least we won.
In my brain, I always mix that up with this….
Paul Mauriat – Love is Blue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjsNNcsUNzE
This was also featured prominently in an episode of one of my all time fav TV shows, Millennium (ep A Room With No View) back in….
/holee shit I’m getting old
Someone mentioned “Girl from Ipanema” earlier this evening, and it’s one of those songs that always gets stuck in my head. Once in college, I got it stuck in my roomate’s head for about 2 weeks. She nearly killed me.
“This marks the fourth consecutive year in which the Jets have drafted a quarterback, joining 2013 second-rounder Geno Smith, 2014 seventh-rounder Tajh Boyd and 2015 fourth-rounder Bryce Petty.”
Shoulda made this a double, though I don’t know if that’s proper etiquette on this thread. Also not 100% sure I spelled etiquette correctly, but that a whole other matter….
The Tubes – Talk To Ya Later https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eHue2jSw3s
Billy Corgan went full on nuts. He went on the radio and compared Millenials to Nazis. I don’t know his stance on Ballghazi though.
I’ve not heard many things either from him or about him that make me think he’s anything but a giant prick.
Other upbeat addiction song. Also, Oasis > Blur
(goodbye eardrums)
Upbeat addiction song. Old Crow Medicine Show- Tell it to Me
https://youtu.be/33lfmCgxdAw
Blur – Song 2

Interestingly enough, Bill Cosby did something along those same lines, and never once regretted it.
Darren Sharper respects his game.
Sent me down the rabbit hole looking for Merv Griffin clips
http://heavens-gates.com/merv/griffin-bobhope.jpg
Where I found Jerry Seinfeld.
So in retrospect they should have gone to jail a few years earlier?
Yep.
Gorillaz – Clint Eastwood. I love me some Dan the Automator
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UclCCFNG9q4
Another peppy fun addiction song…
Steely Dan – Time Out of Mind
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Yhf_8yMnpo
This one’s new to me, but I found a whole Memphis related playlist, and that appears to be my theme now.
John Hiatt- Memphis in the Meantime
https://youtu.be/fwb1Y396cPk
Weird Al has done immeasurable good. This deserves to be in the Library of Congress.
Oh fuck…I totally love that one and agree wholeheartedly.
You mean it isn’t?
Cake – Love you Madly
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uwjsG0cRf0&feature=related
I have no idea why, but, this Weird Al Yankovic song is stuck in my head for some weird reason.
Bedrock Anthem
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtV_nQKhkdY
I would drive in a car chase to this.
Rush – Leave That Thing Alone
(shut up Mom….I already told you I wasn’t touching myself)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1my9bExVO0
I know this song/every RHCP song is about herion addiction. This is one of my all time favorite songs anyways
RHCP – Under the Bridge
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwlogyj7nFE
Yeah….you went way upbeat, eh?
It snuck it’s way in!
At least go with a fun peppy song about addiction…
Third Eye Blind -Semi-Charmed Life
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyjTrwOMSO4
If that’s the direction we’re taking it, then here’s some Warren Zevon- Carmelita.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9L8jLPE84g
Memphis in this one too!
The man makes a fine song AND a fine deodorant!
I’m about to put on Thunder Road and smgdh at people who can’t watch black and white movies.
Crunchy crunch crunch…

You’re welcome.
Thanks for reading. I love you guys and I promise not to steer you wrong.
Wait until Sunday!
There may be a test.
I’ll be here. At least that night.
Dok pull classic instrumentals has me inspired.
Rush – YYZ (live)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmyiOoUAp98
Is there a theme tonight with the music or is it just the usual whatever-the-fuck-we-feel-like?
The theme for the earlier thread was “Song for person with a shitty life”, which is why I am going the other way tonight
Well when you say it that way….
Works for me.
I know y’all got a spare 17 minutes. Don’t lie.
You know for a fact I do… This is gonna be around in a tab til I get around to it. Going more upbeat with my music tonight
Iron Butterfly is more pot smoking music than anything else. Though that’s kinda upbeat 🙂
It’s true….it’s hard to be sad and high at the same time….ppl forget that.
Did someone say “Abigail Freemantle”?
@WCS good choice but it just inspired me to go Sabotage
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5rRZdiu1UE
Very Nice.
kill whitey
All jokes aside Little Richard is the reason why I play (crappy drunken) guitar.
This is a serious rocking tune.
I may or may not have a Little Richard cab tale to regale you with.
Depends on how nicely you ask.
Oooh, please do tell?
I drove taxi for awhile in Barstow California, yes Barstow. It was the mid way point between Vegas and LA and more than one person either broke down driving out got stopped driving somewhere in between.

Pearl Jam – Black

Favorite band, top-5 least favorite songs by anyone. DICHOTOMY
I always loved that one. Black and Oceans were my favs off of Ten.
I loved that whole album to the point it would be like choosing one child over another.
But fuck Jeremy (good song, but got sick of it)
Yeah, same with Alive and Evenflow. Both great but I don’t ever need to hear them again.
For some reason there’s a Sean Taylor highlights video in the default playlist for this video. I mean one of the lyrics is “It was a brown eyed handsome man, that won the game, it was a brown eyed handsome man”
Chuck Berry Meast of the Week?
Sounds good to me. The man could play.
Get down with your bad self, Dok.
I never don’t like hearing this one.
You should toss this one onto the request line, btw.
Last October my niece got married and I did a travelogue of Memphis.
Cool town.
Has a lot of heart.
Shameless plug alert!
https://www.doorfliesopen.com/index.php/2015/11/01/things-to-do-in-memphis-when-youre-drunk-a-travelogue/
Still one of my best recent trips.
There will be drinking!
I remember reading that! Made me want to visit 🙂
You should.
It’s good for the soul.
Dok’s 60s Adult Contemporary playlist makes me feel guilty for putting this up.
But not enough to NOT put this up.
Alice in Chains – Would

I prefer the Frank Sinatra-Jobim version myself
Never not funny.
Billy Talent – Fallen Leaves
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPg63uxYwN0
That’s good!
I need to listen to more of them. I love what I know of them, but for some reason I’ve never explored them in great depth (giggity).
“Blow It Out Your Ass It’s Veruca Salt” might be the best album name of all time.
“This marks the fourth consecutive year in which the Jets have drafted a quarterback, joining 2013 second-rounder Geno Smith, 2014 seventh-rounder Tajh Boyd and 2015 fourth-rounder Bryce Petty.”
Hahaha, awwww
I’m feeling crunchy.
Let’s start with some entry level metal.
I was off solving a murder (the talk show host did it). What did I miss? Who did the dumbest shit?
The answer, as always, is the Jets.
deeelicious
The Supersuckers, my all-time favorite, at least before 3/4 of them quit.
Born With A Tail
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igR-ypkIKnU
“On my head there’s no crown of thorns/

I’m gonna hop on top of your Mom before I go
(Come to think of it Belichek probably loves this band?
Bad thoughts.

I don’t know what it’s from, but I feel like I can identify with that gif.
I’m not sure either. Barton Fink was my first thought, but cursory searches (aka lazy searches) do not confirm. But yeah, it’s apropos.
All over the map tonight….sorry.
The Tubes – She’s a Beauty
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ_k_VG6Syc
Shoulda made this a double, though I don’t know if that’s proper etiquette on this thread. Also not 100% sure I spelled etiquette correctly, but that a whole other matter….

Screw it….hit me again, bartender.
The Tubes – White Punks on Dope

Great band!
Agreed.
