EPL Returns and Other Lesser Footy Sadness

Everything still sucks out loud and should be set on fire. It will all be ablaze soon enough, and Lesser Footy exists to hopefully help distract you at least a little bit until it happens.

The early Saturday fixture (7:30, NBCSN)is strong and assy, with 6th position Manure hosting 4th place Arseholes. 6 points separate the two in the table, though, so objects in the mirror may be farther away than they actually appear.

A busy 10:00 window features Soton hosting the Shite (NBCSN), and hopefully beating, well, the absolute shit out of them. Everton host Swans on Extra Time (and will no doubt disappoint me), plus Leicester/Watford (also Extra Time) et al.

Spurs host West Ham (12:30, NBC) and who gives a shit? My local affiliate is bumping it for NC State/Miami. Womp womp.

One sad little game Sunday (Middlesbrough host Chelski, 11:00, NBCSN), and a sadder one for BMNF (West Brom/Burnley, 3:00, NBCSN) and that will be that.

Oklahoma State at TCU (Noon, FS1)

If the Pokes keep winning, that Bedlam game could be mighty meaningful (and not just have a really cool rivalry name). We will see if Bloodeyes have any resistance left in ’em.

Florida at LSU (1:00, SECN)

Re-scheduled hurricane game, SEC really could use the marquee game given all the teams on D-1AA “bye” but they left it in this weird time/channel slot.

Washington State at Colorado (3:30, Fox)

Possible dry run for the Pac 12 title game, much like last week’s Washington/SC tilt. Prelude to the Apple Cup, but one knows Mike Leach wants 9-0 and will be focused on the Buffs. Good game.

Indiana at Michigan (3:30, ESPN)

Time to find out just how shitty Meeeechigan’s backup QB is. Hopefully, hilarity ensues.

Stanford at Cal (5:30, Pac12)

Neeeerrrrrrd hate is still hate.

Clemson at Wake Forest (7:00, ESPN)

Perhaps Team Jeebus Camp will continue sabotaging itself as much as the Fightin’ Petrinos. One can only hope.

Oklahoma at West Virginia (8:00, ABC)

De facto Big 12 title game, and winner has an outside shot at the playoffs (especially if Boomer Sooner). Hopefully, it will be fun, for the alternatives are dire.

USC at UCLA (10:30, ESPN)

Sexy hate is still hate, too.

Watching “The Wrestler” (2008), with Mickey Rourke, written former Onion editor Robert Siegel and directed by Darren Aronofsky. This is an awesome, sad, great movie.

“This is an awesome, sad, great movie.” Your description is also apt for “The Fall” (2006):

Also I’m a big Darren Aronofsky fan; your watching The Wrestler made me look him up on IMDB to see what he’s working on. Check out this cast list:

The Kinks in 1981 were my first show, because my parents wouldn’t let me see KISS.

I had no idea that The Kinks were:

a) still a band at that time
b) still making new music too

ALXMAC

c) never lost their sense of humor
d) all of the above

So that 10-2 recording was actually 8-2 and I read the email from last week wrong and got a “You remember it’s 8, right, where the hell are you” phonecall. But now I’m back!

…Everyone’s gone, damn it. And I have to be up in 5 hours to get my shit together for another gig.

In fall 1995 (my So. year of HS), 3 of my best friends and I took a 3 hour road trip down to Dallas (on a Tues. school night) to see R.E.M. at Reunion Arena. Although I liked them, I was not as ‘UGE of an R.E.M fan as my friends. I was more excited to see the opener (and they opened with this):

Not ashamed to admit this was my first real concert:

As a Jr. in HS (1996) I saw them in OKC (with openers No Doubt and Goo Goo Dolls). No Doubt and Bush were great. Goo Goo Dolls were when everyone went to buy merch and or/smoke a joint in the bathroom.

Razorblade Suitcase was one of two albums that I purchased after I first hitchhiked to California. While the other album impacted me more overall (Marilyn Manson – Smells Like Children), I’ll always have a soft spot for this Bush era.

Wow. That was a fun night out. Way more drunk people on the streets than I remember back in my day. Get off my lawn.

I’m very sad that I never got to see Type O live. They’ve become one of my top 5 favorite bands of all time.

Semi-unrelated photo of Peter Steele and Dimebag Darrell, just because.

I lost count. Always was a great show. If it was close enough I was there. Has made me realize though that with age comes reduced geography. Shit has to be speshul or in my backyard to get me there. Smgdh.

Horatio Cornblower

I did not know Tommy Wiseau had a band.

For the longest time, I thought blood hound gang were yet another forgettable one hit wonder, and its really been a revelation to see the craftsmanship that goes into their work

I remember the video, but I think the last time I heard that song was before I really got into Metallica between 2000 and 2001. Wasn’t expecting the “For Whom The Bell Tolls” sample.

Brocky

I didn’t notice it for years either.

also, the pac man bit is the greatest random transition in the history of transitions.
