Guys, I’m no fan of Trump, but an open mind is a wonderful thing. Hate is a two way street folks, just remember about the anti-Obama protests (which, sorry all, there was comparatively much less) and compare the differences.
I doubt Trump is gonna make it, too much ego, but the “change” Obama promised never really happened either, it was really just more of the same old thing. I have an issue with extremes, unfortunately both choices this past election was an example of both. I have a hard time believing that the image Hillary was presenting is an accurate reflection of the true person, I imagine many liberals realize this but look the other way accordingly, just like Trump supporters. I belong to neither party, even though I hate fence-straddling. I support family values, but also believe in funding Planned Parenthood and I support women’s reproductive rights. I’m against The Wall, but still believe in finding a way to reduce illegal immigration, including working with the legitimate Mexican military to destroy the cartels that are ruining the country whose people I’ve grown quite fond of.
Here’s a surprise! I live in an area not far from the border with a sizeable Hispanic population, I work with many of them and some are my lifetime friends. You would be amazed how many of them are in favor of The Wall. Their families have likely been in-country longer than my Anglo-ass ancestry and are tired of the stigma created by the illegals. They learned the language, respect the laws and pay taxes…just like most other historical immigrant ancestors did.
I despise racism, but I don’t have white guilt either. My ancestry came to the USA shortly before WWI when they realized the Kaiser had lost his mind, so like most Americans I wasn’t part of the perversion that was African slavery (yes, there were other types). I’m an individualist, I judge a man by his head, heart and balls. Square those way and I could care less about the wrapping. The sentiment applies to women as well, except the balls of course. Race relations are at loggerheads, if there is any hope both sides are going to have to find common ground and make compromises. Like it or not, blaming the white devil for everything is what got Trump elected in the first place.
I hope this doesn’t destroy my status here at DFO as the majority of the commenters seem to lean hard to the left. All I ask is that since I accept and respect your values and opinions, please extend the same olive branch my direction. I’m also thoroughly buzzed, FWIW.
