I’ve used that particular banner image up there for TGISF once before. Not quite ten months ago, when talking about libraries and reading books.
But this is not about books or libraries this week. Nope, this week we’re talking about gardening n junk.

Who’s Got Two Thumbs, Neither Of Which Are Green?

Yet even still… even though I am by no means a gardening expert, in fact I kinda suck at it… (I’d estimate that slightly north of 50% of the plants/seeds I put in the ground die within mere weeks) …I am still strangely very protective of the plants/seeds I put in the ground.

And no, I’m not just protective of my “allegedly illegal” plants. Allegedly. What????? Never mind.
But yes, it is very possible I might often chase squirrels and other little vermin out of the garden, while shaking my fist.

They rarely pay attention, however.

Well, at least not until I start throwing rocks and/or shooting around them with the pellet gun. Which trust me, really scares the crap out of them.

Or maybe not.

I’m a Grower, not a Shower
So, what are we growing this year? Lotsa stuff. Have a look…
First…Broccoli.
This plant was harvested yesterday, so it doesn’t look terribly impressive here. But wow, it’s yielded way more (and way sooner) than I ever expected this year…
That’s some sweet broccoli right there (and an onion and some zucchini too). And that’s just from today.
Speaking of zucchini…
There’s gonna be some more nice zucchini and cukes later this year as best I can tell. All of them look very healthy, unlike last year.
What else we got? How about some peppers?
No, this pepper plant is not in jail. It is in ICU. This is a Habanero pepper plant. It was doing great, better than all the rest of the pepper plants, actually. But, it grew too fast. It outgrew its root system. Then last Sunday night, we had some strong thunderstorms with high winds. Those winds grabbed this little sumbitch and uprooted him. Pulled his little green ass right out of the ground and dropped him about 2 feet away.

I replanted him in the middle of the night that night, while the storm was still raging, actually. Yes, I got quite wet (phrasing).
Then I put that cage around him for support and put him in ICU. I honestly did not think he’d make it. And he still might not. But so far, so good.
Speaking of peppers….

There is no way this Ghost Pepper plant should have a fruit this big yet. But yet, it does. Nice.
Speaking of “early fruits” (phrasing), check this out…
Those will be tomatoes soon. They’re cute, right?
And of course, I do have some “other things” growing.
Ahem…wink wink, nudge nudge.

My first batch of weedlings this year died because I’m a bad parent. My timing of hitting the west coast a month ago made it such that I had to decide to either let them sit in their little restrictive pots for too long and with no attention; or set them free and put them in the actual ground before they were ready for that. I chose the latter.
They all died while I was in California.

(moment of silence)
Soooooo….. I’ve replanted.
And holy shit, if I had realized that nearly all the seeds would germinate (which seriously never happens, but it did this time) I wouldn’t have put so many in. No shit, check this out…
Sadly, most won’t make it. As I said, if I’d realized how potent these seeds were, I would not have put so many in so close together. They’ll end up cannibalizing one another if I don’t “cull the herd”, so to speak. So this weekend, I plan to terminate the weaklings.
IT’S LIKE SOPHIE’S CHOICE UP IN HERE!!!!!

But I digress.
Anywhooooo….
If just a few make it however, that’s what I was going for anyway. In a month or so, the ones here which survive will be ready for the actual Earthening. But holy shit, I didn’t realize my weed seeds were this potent. I’ve overcrowded them, admittedly. Who knew?????
And yes, I still like flowers, too. In a few days, these will open up and become some awesome Daylilies. But even now, still kinda sexy in an understated phallic kinda way…right?
Eventually, they’ll look like this…

OK, enough of that shit. Let’s get to the sexy.

Sexy Garden Girls
If she’s cute, smart and willing to get a little dirty (that means two things), then she’s probably a keeper.
Enjoy…

Hmmmm. I should probably stop here. It seems there’s something unexpected coming up in my south forty. I should go tend to that.
