Sexy Friday – 20241122

TGIF! Have to make this a shorty today what with not having power since Tuesday and none expected until Saturday. But that’s a me problem, not a you problem, so we roll on!

Survival – Personal Edition

Let’s flash back to college and open some beer bottles (or near-beer or not-beer, whatever) without a bottle opener.

  • Use another bottle. Hold the bottle to be opened upright, and the opening bottle upside down. Lock the midcap of the opener’s cap under the bottom edge of the openee’s cap. By using the midcap, the top cap won’t be opened. If you want to open both, then use the bottom edge of the opener’s cap. Use the opener bottle as a lever and press down until the openee’s cap pops off.
  • Cigarette lighter. This was my go-to as a smoker back in the day. Grab the neck of the bottle with your non-dominant hand, and the lighter with your dominant hand. Wedge the bottom of the lighter under the bottom edge of the cap and position it over the middle knuckle of your index finger of your non-dominant hand. Your knuckle should be at the same height, or a bit higher, than the bottom edge of the cap. Use your dominant hand to press down on the top of the lighter to lever that cap off. Sometimes, you will need to repeat this. If so, use a different part of the bottle cap to pry on.

There’s more, but I’ll get to them another week when I have more time and power. Eat shit Puget Sound Energy!

During Covid I made a list of all the places I have stayed/travelled to. We are all getting older so I wanted a journey trail. I have at times taken too many edibles or smoked to much weed and slowly been filling in memories from those stops.

I obviously live a different life now, but how the hell am I alive, I was a knucklehead.

ballsofsteelandfury

You need to make a map of all those places.

Even better, a post.

There is only one reminder in my house of my active duty time. 20 years 2 months and 2 weeks of service. It was a retirement gift from my Dad.

But I’ve been thinking about doing the same thing for my off duty shenanigans. Those are even more interesting.

Shit man… impressive.

It’s the stories in between that I want to get down. While I still can. Many were fun, the rest were lessons.

Brick Meathook

We’re going to call you “General” from now on.

yeah right

We speak the same language.

You know the answer.

Work ethic.

Any person who shows up to work every day on time every fucking day!?

For 44 years, in my case, that motherfucker earned seeing the world.

You’re going to Toronto in April, yeah?

litre_cola

No but LA in Sept

yeah right

That shit’s already done and done.

Can’t wait.

See you Best Coast time.

Horatio Cornblower

What’s all this about Toronto in April?

yeah right

April mid month. Bluejays home game against either Braves or Mariners.
And drinks.

As far as Rolling Stones go, this is definitely one of the most Rolling Stoneist.

Brick Meathook

Mick Taylor on lead guitar. This was the Stones at their absolute prime (and they had other primes with different personnel}.

While you boys are spinning records, here’s a picture of one of my timepieces. I can’t remember exactly when I took the photo, I think it was about a week ago.

This is a Casio GW2310FB-1CR G-Shock, which is a terrific “beater” watch, meaning you can bang it against anything. Casios come with terrible plastic bracelets so that’s an after-market nylon NATO strap attached. It is a very functional and useful timepiece, and doesn’t look too bad or gaudy at 48mm diameter. The proper retail price point for a G-Shock is $100. Not a penny more. Look at a submarine skipper and he is most likely wearing a G-Shock.
My dress watch is an Omega Speedmaster, which I will address at another time.

Thank you.

Doktor Zymm

Casio watches are the best, I had some version of their calculator watch for most of my life and will probably go back to it when my current garmin monstrosity bites the dust

blaxabbath

Them NATO straps heading into their final months of production.

SonOfSpam

Fuck yes, Germans who don’t wanna kill other religions.

And they made Wind of Change about Ukraine a few years ago on tour, which proves their woke bonafides. Still rocked like motherfuckers even at their age.

I’ve seen Tool twice; 2006 and 2011. Maynard clearly didn’t feel like being there in 2006; 2011 the whole band brought their A game. Great show.

litre_cola

They stayed in the hotel that I worked at here in Calgary in 2005. Their Group name with the banquet orders was Rusty Trombone.

Maynard tried to bring his dog in the dining room. He couldn’t understand that it was against the law. Also, he and the band stayed in different towers, and dined separately for 2 days.

Have seen them twice, both brilliant.

They are. Are you getting those?

Doktor Zymm

Yep, found em on sale for $100 off.
They’re an audiophile budget pick and I can’t wait to hook em up!

There is a guy on youtube called cheapaudioman and he has lead me to some great deals and the best equipment.

Nice job here Mr Ayo. I’m gonna wash lady number 3’s back for her.

An M16 / 4 magazine makes a perfect beer bottle opener. Tough enough to even get after the sturdy German litre sized bottles.

I was of a niche generation (younger than Nancy Reagan, slightly older than you) who always thought Michael Jackson was a freak and his music was bubble-gum for the youngsters. And we were proved right, as usual.

SonOfSpam

Yes, bubble gum, but he also provided us Jesus Juice.

I saw Van Halen (the original line-up) twice, for their Van Halen II tour and again a year later. My best friend in high school was a great guitarist and worshipped Eddie Van Halen.

2Pack

I saw them twice. First time in 78 touring after thier first album they were great. Blew Black Sabbath off the stage. Second time at Monsters of Rock 84 they sucked. It was obvious they were falling apart.

WCS

To a man, they all said this is easily their least favorite song they wrote. They were pissed it became a hit.

SonOfSpam

Yeah, it’s…fine? It’s funny that they hate it though.

ballsofsteelandfury

It is funny they hate it because I like it a lot.

Horatio Cornblower

I’ll bet they still somehow managed to cash every check that came through because of it.

SonOfSpam

Saw them twice in the last 8-10 years, with the original lineup minus Michael Anthony (Wolfgang VH was the bass player), and they led off with this song both times. And lemme tell you, it fucking ruled.

Brick Meathook

Eddie Van Halen and his wife from that TV show lived in my neighborhood (in the nice part)

Also, princess’ uncle probably won’t make it through the weekend.

Sorry to be a bummer. Just tell your loved ones they are loved ones.

BRICK MEATHOOK UPDATE

In response to many of your requests about my condition, I am in Day Five of my miserable common cold, which, I am treating with orange juice, cough syrup, cheap vodka, opiates, cheap religion, unloaded firearms, paper towels, and cashews for some reason.

I’m happy to report that hallucinations are down by 50%

litre_cola

Cheap religion! Is that a Bad Religion cover band?

Horatio Cornblower
WCS

So that means there’s a 50% chance you hallucinated typing that. Or did you?

blaxabbath

Give us some context.

Is it 50 percent fewer hallucinations — or 50 percent less-intense hallucinations?

Follow up: why should we listen to man who’s all gun, no bullet?

I was taught the cigarette lighter trick when I was 19, didn’t smoke at the time but always carried a lighter. Weird that is when I started smoking weed too.

Flying to Chicago early to get away from the atmospheric river. Of course that means I have to fly through the storm and we’re about 90 minutes delayed, but we’ll still get in at a reasonable time and I got a $25 certificate out of it so I’m all good. Plus they’re going around with another pre-takeoff round of domestic non-vintage sparkling wine!

Looking forward to lots of gaming over the next week. Gonna pick up Squirrel with a Gun and Stalker 2 and maybe a couple indie games that are on sale

Doktor Zymm

Oh, also just got the newish Zelda

litre_cola

You need a Malort and White Claw!

Brick Meathook

Go to a Delta Club front desk and use my name. You’ll get in.

blaxabbath

Do work efficiently at any of your locales? Does weather matter?

Doktor Zymm

All I need for work is a good internet connection and a mouse (touchpads hate me). Second monitor is a bonus. Have all of that in both CA and Chi, pretty independent of weather beyond power/internet availability.
I guess maybe more efficient in bad weather just because it cuts down on other stuff to do!

ballsofsteelandfury

I think we all know which one is my favourite!

Butt an outstanding group of ladies this week! Great job!

SonOfSpam

“Hey, while you’re up, can I get a glass of bubbly?’
“here you go!”
“Ok, thanks” (subtly gets the Windex and a thick towel)

ballsofsteelandfury

Sorry sir, but that champagne on the butt does not get wiped by a heavy towel. It gets licked clean.

Edge of a picnic table works well. I have tiny hands so used thumb instead of index finger for the lighter trick. I always had a lighter and a mini-survival kit in an altoids tin in case I somehow got stranded in the woods.

Keys will also work in a pinch.

I just ordered a big ass portable(ish) power supply on sale because I’m overreacting to Trump’s proposed energy policies. Will be handy for blackouts in the meantime.
