This week, we had 7 games due to the byes. Next week, we’ll have 8 as the byes continue. That’s weird, right? Let’s get to it!

Notes and Comments

Some weird things were afoot this week. How does Gold Coast lose to Fremantle at home?!? For that matter, how does Sydney get BLOWN THE FUCK OUT at home by Adelaide?!?

The GWS Giants BARELY scraped by the shitty Richmond Tigers and I’ve no idea what the hell is going on in Sydney lately. Has rugby season started and no one is paying attention to AFL, not even the players?

#1 Collingwood convincingly beat the Hawthorn Hawks who are now looking more and more like pretenders instead of actual threats. Likewise, Brisbane took care of Essendon even though it was probably closer than they would have preferred.

Melbourne, who beat Sydney by 53, just got their asses handed to them by St. Kilda, of all teams. What the hell is going on? Is Sydney just awful now? Is St. Kilda back on the “good” side of the rollercoaster that is every Saints season?

Next week, we have only two teams on bye: St. Kilda and Fremantle. They both get an extra week to bask in their unexpected wins.

SonOfSpam has remained in the top spot in the Tipping Contest after a difficult week with all the upsets. Kudos to the trio of Yeah Right, Dolph Ucker, and GTD, who made up some ground on the leaders with the top scores. It’s a very close competition!

If you are a member of an AFL club or you got a Watch AFL membership, you should be able to watch every AFL and AFLW game, including replays. Game times vary between Australian afternoon and evening, which actually makes it easier for us in North America to watch as the games can be seeing in the evenings on Pacific Time and early mornings on Eastern time.

If you haven’t become a member of a club or signed up for the Watch AFL app, you can still watch the AFL and AFLW games in the USA on either FS1 or FS2 and in Canada on TSN. Showtimes can be found here on the Australian Football Association of North America website. But I do recommend that you join a club. It’s fun and they send you free shit.

See you next week!

One of my neighbors is questioning whether a power outage of 7 hours (on a cool evening/night) was enough to spoil the food in her fridge. Meanwhile here I am trying to figure out what this crud clogging the strainer in the kitchen sink is by putting it in my mouth.

BrettFavresColonoscopy

Was she opening it every ten minutes to check on the food?

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

“Every ten minutes? If you’re going to be that lax about fridge security you might as well not bother owning one.” – Coach Reid

Well they found both missing hikers on Katahdin, but unfortunately both were dead. Remains to be seen what happened. Remember folks, never hike above your physical limits and also prepare for the worst-case scenario any time you’re going to be above treeline.

scotchnaut

Remains to be seen

What if they wished to be cremated?

Horatio Cornblower

You light a fire above treeline in Baxter State Park the Maine Forest Service will kill you themselves.

ArmedandHammered

And they know the best place to hide the bodies.

Can you start a forest fire above the tree line?

SonOfSpam

Gotta bring your own trees, but yes.

scotchnaut

If you don’t rake said forest? Yes.

Horatio Cornblower

There’s plenty of grasses and smaller shrubs that they would very much prefer keep growing and not burn, despite them being both flammable and inflammable.

ArmedandHammered

You peel them? But how else do you make the egg salad crunchy?

yeah right

That’s damn good cooking info with the hot start.

Reno update. Interesting that in the 20 years since we built our place, construction techniques here have changed significantly. They no longer construct interior walls out of 20 cm block. They now use aluminum studs and sheet rock. Makes running the water and electric much easier.

Even on exterior walls they add studs, run the lines and boxes and finish with sheet rock. In areas where it’s needed they will also add an insulation layer.

When you said “Reno” and “studs” you piqued Buddy Cole’s Halftime Show’s curiosity.

Unsurprised

I’ve seen enough videos on YouTube to wonder: have construction standards really gone to shit or is it just more clickbait bullshit?

Horatio Cornblower

I think the vast majority of things are built to last just long enough to make you not feel completely ripped off when you have to buy a new one.

blaxabbath

The standards have not changed (improved in many places, even). The materials have improved. The training has improved. Everything has improved. Even on mass-production scale, buildings constructed today are better (more efficient; more value; more longevity; quicker to build; simply-new) than every before. So, on the whole, the typical construction project is better now than before.

Similar point — has the American agriculture processing standards really gone to shit? Or would we all just be disgusted to see a YouTube video of a guy filming the ugliest parts of our extremely successful Kraft Foods supply chain that produces, packages, and delivers consistent, sanitary, food to Americans for fresh consumption or long-term stable storage. Not saying Kraft is Number 1 on my list — but life would be a lot worse if I didn’t know that I could easily and safely grab a box of Mac n Cheese to be not-starving at any point in my daily life.

Look at commercial buildings (high rises). These old buildings are like the muscle car generation of buildings — big and clunky and loud and consume a bunch of energy and don’t match today’s style. Now look at a new building, which are like a Prius. More efficient, fits the users needs, easy to work on with modern parts. And generally less sexy — but that’s not a real priority.

Long short — everything sucks today. And things only get worse when you go back in time.

ArmedandHammered

Your recent inspirational comments have been so uplifting lately. Thank you. 😁

Cheers to LADWP for turning the power on at eleven minutes past midnight, making it very simple to reset all the digital clocks.

yeah right

And to answer the question, Freo is playing amazing footy these last 3 plus matches. Top notch defense and the most disciplined offense I’ve ever seen them play.

It’s been a good stretch.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Even though they couldn’t pull off the upset, cheers to Essendon for making it competitive.

And speaking of upsets…

I have this robot pool skimmer that I think the Dr Mrs would like to incorporate into your next bath adventure.

I’ve actually been fascinated by the ads I’ve seen for those. Are they really as much of the cat’s meow as they seem to be?

blaxabbath

It works well and the ash solar panels let it stay in without a charge. But I dont challenge mine much. More that I don’t like our pool guy.

Me: “Ah finally, some nice weather after returning from Puerto Rico. Time to go outside and get some fresh air!”

Canada: “Hey, we, uh, we set Manitoba on fire and now we can’t find the haze. Have you seen it?”

Fine job here Balls. My choice for an amphibious vehicle would be the old reliable DUWK.

Barely scraped by doesn’t cover it. Richmond was dominating that game and led by 28 going into the fourth quarter. GWS played like shit most of the game, especially in the midfield, but that comeback was impressive. Richmond scored one point the entirety of the fourth quarter and GWS stepped it up to steal the win.

BrettFavresColonoscopy

Shit midfield play, Briggs is clearly banged up in the ruck, and uneven level of intensity. Ward blowing his ACL is a big loss but him rallying the troops before the start of the fourth seemed to have a big impact.
