Notes and Comments
Geelong used to be unbeatable in their home stadium in Geelong. I say that because the AFL also makes them play “home” games at the MCG. Their home stadium is in Kardinia Park and gets renamed depending on the sponsor. Real fans just call it Kardinia Park. Anyhoo, they’ve lost this year to GWS and Brisbane and that’s more losses in half a season than they lose in most years.
Speaking of GWS, they did a great job of coming back against Gold Coast. The Suns took the lead early and it looked like they were going to beat the Giants easily, but GWS turned things around and ended up winning at the end. Maybe this is a sign of their slide reversing?
The big surprise of the week was Carlton losing to North Melbourne. The Blues are in freefall and there are rumours about the coach losing his job. There are other rumours about them trading their best player and rebuilding. The situation is that bad.
Collingwood just keeps rolling. If they do not win the Premiership this year, all the Pies fans will declare this season to be a disaster. Granted, there are other teams that could beat them on any given day, but expectations are through the roof now.
Next week, we have four teams on bye: Geelong, Brisbane, Essendon, and GWS. That should get everyone back to even on games except for Essendon and Gold Coast, who still have to make up the game missed due to Tropical Cyclone Arthur.
The Tipping Contest is still close! No damage at the top, but others have started to catch up. Very well done, everyone!
If you are a member of an AFL club or you got a Watch AFL membership, you should be able to watch every AFL and AFLW game, including replays. Game times vary between Australian afternoon and evening, which actually makes it easier for us in North America to watch as the games can be seeing in the evenings on Pacific Time and early mornings on Eastern time.
If you haven’t become a member of a club or signed up for the Watch AFL app, you can still watch the AFL and AFLW games in the USA on either FS1 or FS2 and in Canada on TSN. Showtimes can be found here on the Australian Football Association of North America website. But I do recommend that you join a club. It’s fun and they send you free shit.
See you next week!
