Golf Update
I thought I was taking this weekend off golf but my boss invited me to play this morning. Next weekend, I have the two-day championship for one of my clubs. We play one course Saturday and a different one on Sunday. I’m really looking forward to it!

Seriously, when does college football begin? I thought August was the worst month for sports but July is just awful. At least Mexican soccer is back on.

Other Updates
I am updating my workout regimen and will be starting this week on going back to my weight workouts. I really like the sprinting workouts, so I will continue those. There’s a weigh-in the week after next.
I am very tempted to draft Steelers for FF this year as they have some serious weapons. However, the offensive line is more sus (as the kids say) than the Lineup for The Usual Suspects and Aaron Rodgers is, well, let’s not go there….
I am in the middle of a five day weekend as I had vacation days I had to burn! It’s weird to say, but I miss the days of COVID and working from home. I’ve been attending zoom meetings and checking the laptop to stay ahead of everything and I really miss working in my underwear….
In other news, I have figured out that I will NOT be bored in retirement. I have no clue why people would retire and then decide to go back to work. Fuck that noise.

One of my pre retirement tasks here over the next couple of months is to consolidate all of my financial accounts locally. I want to transfer the Visa card I’ve had for 40 years from a stateside checking account that I will soon close to my credit union here.
Anyone done that before? Any issues?
And don’t ask me for the account number and my mother’s maiden name… I know you guys…

The simplest thing to do would probably be to just close it clean, and open up a new one with the local place.
Yeah I thought so. The teller told me it’s simple but few things are ever simple.
The last time I tried to do international banking with a credit union they asked me if the currency used in South Africa is the euro.
The credit union here is good. They deal with a very transient crowd so normally thier advice on stuff is good.
They need to work on teller hawtness though… All of the cute ones have left recently and… Well… Let’s just say that 2Packs visits have been much less flirtatious.
And institutions in the states are very ignorant as to foreign transactions. Just went through some of that with my stateside bank. After over 45 years with them I will be happy to part ways.
You generally can’t transfer to a different bank/provider. Closing it may affect your credit score if it’s your longest tenured account, but probably not an issue when retiring abroad 🙂
Thank you. I no longer care about my credit score, I’m in a good position there. But I suspected that a transfer might some issues.
Based on my mother’s experience transferring Dadshirt’s assets to herself, including the ones where she is listed as Beneficiary, you are completely screwed. Have fun!
