Notes and Comments
Port Adelaide gave us the big surprise of the year in beating Adelaide in the Showdown. I should have known not to discount performance in rivalry games, but this was truly an inspired performance. Maybe they can turn their season around?
Brisbane’s beatdown of Sydney also qualifies as a surprise if for the margin alone. People forget that Brisbane are the back to back Premiers. They’re not a bad team at all even if they’re not at the top of the standings. They will be a force come finals yet again.
Fremantle continued showing everyone who is the best team in the competition. They held Gold Coast to 29 points while scoring 80 which is just MASSIVE for percentage. No one will catch them during the rest of the regular season unless something massively goes wrong.
GWS made the score look respectable, but as BFC posted over the weekend, it wasn’t that close. They’re not that far of the pace, but they need to start playing better. It may not happen and this year may just be a write off.
Hawthorn, on the other hand, is back to their winning ways and looking really good. They hold 3rd place and a 6 point lead over a trailing pack of 5 teams that are separated only by percentage. If they finish decently, a Double Chance is in their future.
Finally, that pack of five (Geelong, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Western) will be interesting to watch the rest of the year. 3 of them are in the top 6 and all are in finals positions. There will be a lot of jockeying over the course of the last 7 weeks.
Not much movement in the Pool as nearly everyone got 5 picks correct except for Sharky, who got 6 and is now in a tie for second with Yeah Right. Spam still leads by 4. Don’t forget to put the tips in!
If you are a member of an AFL club or you got a Watch AFL membership, you should be able to watch every AFL and AFLW game, including replays. Game times vary between Australian afternoon and evening, which actually makes it easier for us in North America to watch as the games can be seeing in the evenings on Pacific Time and early mornings on Eastern time.
If you haven’t become a member of a club or signed up for the Watch AFL app, you can still watch the AFL and AFLW games in the USA on either FS1 or FS2 and in Canada on TSN. Showtimes can be found here on the Australian Football Association of North America website. But I do recommend that you join a club. It’s fun and they send you free shit.
See you next week!
