Seriously, if you’re not excited about the Olympics, I feel bad for you! I am an unapologetic Olympics whore. During the workweek, I was watching the women’s handball competition. Was I doing it to avoid work or because I love the Olympics so much that I’ll watch any random event? WHY NOT BOTH?!?

Today’s topic is a continuation of “shit we had/did when I was growing up that kids today will never have.”

Did I have one of these and use it all the time? You bet your ass I did! Was I a gigantic geek? DON’T ANSWER THAT!

You didn’t do the 80s right if you didn’t have stripes burned into your back from laying out on these. Even the necessary towel couldn’t prevent them.

Arcades were everywhere and cheap. 25 cents a play. We have summer interns at work and we took them this week to Shakey’s to celebrate someone’s retirement. I asked them if there were any arcade games and if they played. They said that, yes, there were some, but it was a dollar to play each game. WTF?!?!?

Golf Update

Nothing new this week as I haven’t gotten a chance to play. However, my next Match Play tournament game will probably be next week and I’m taking a day of vacation to play on Tuesday.

What a difference a week makes, huh? As predicted, Biden got Khrushchev’ed and Harris is now the nominee

I know all you Democrats are happy about that but have you thought for a second how undemocratic that process was? Kamala basically got anointed. Did the primaries mean anything at all?

The Obamas have finally endorsed her. I’m sure they were waiting to see how much money she could draw before deciding to get Michelle in the race. As it is, there may still be difficulties getting Harris in the ballot in some states and the Republicans are sure to sue to keep her off.

I haven’t had time to feed my Gambling Addiction, what with helping to caretake my father. Instead, I’ve been withdrawing a few hundred dollar bills every month or so, put them in my pocket and then light them on fire. Its the closest approximation I can find to going to the casino that doesn’t involve scorpions, a ball point hammer and my crotch, and it is a time saver, which is a godsend because free time is very valuable nowadays.

Yes, that specific lounge chair in the pic was omnipresent in the 80s. The back makes a specific sound when it separates from that, probably like what JD Vance sounds like standing up from the couch.

And Kamala wasn’t “anointed” – Biden won the primary, she’s the Veep, Biden bails, she’s the choice. Any other decision or process would have been a bigger gift to Trump than almost getting hit by a bullet.

I was close friends with the dudes that ran the local video game arcade.

Just saunter in and the dudes would open the front of the machine and give me 25 free credits.

I was really good at Joust, Pac man, Galaga and I was close to legendary with Defender.

They gave me credits to play Pac man when it first came out because nobody played it.

Then the song came out and I was one of the DJs that dropped that shit on the world.

The two best I was good at was Xevious and Qix. I could get high score on those. Defender, I was never better than fair, but fair was better than most.

There was a hack in Crystal Castles, where you ran around behind the pyramid and jump up and down until you get transported a bunch of levels forward. Instant 300K or something like that. That was worth a high score and a free t-shirt at the end of the month.
