It’s Thursday. This Is Your Beloved Open Thread

I’ll come good. I’ve been on a whirlwind business/medical assessment trip to Toronto and back that started Tuesday at noon and is ending as I type this right now at 5:41 EST. Btw, wifey is glad she didn’t bear a daughter because her niece’s (discount) prom dress was $700 and needed $200 in alterations. I love her cheapness sometimes.

Minutiae:

-COOPER FLAGG ROLLED HIS ANKLE!: Meh. Duke will be just fine. Gotta say, I don’t watch much college ball anymore but there’s this ancient muscle that gets excited at the thought of so many games being played with so much on the line and underdogs coming through here and there.

-Mostert to the Raiders: Totally cromulent signing in my eyes. He’s a good teammate, a positive veteran presence and there’s still tread on the tires. “What? He’s turning 33 next month!”, you say. Hear me out-his career didn’t actually have meaningful carries until he was 27 years-old. That’s five years of hits that he avoided that didn’t wear down his body. There’s a trend that I’ve seen over the years that mirror this with respect to older running backs that were successful in their thirties. What do Marcus Allen, John Riggins, Ricky Williams, Ottis Anderson and Fred Jackson have in common? They all were contributors late in their careers and missed significant games (therefore hits) due to holdouts, injury, suspensions or lack of use. I’m sure there’s something to this and I think I need to dig a bit deeper.

-The Senators are nine games over .500 in mid-March and in the wild card driver’s seat. [spreads arms out in dramatic fashion] Catch me, I’m fainting.

-Believe it or don’t, the Rams couldn’t unload Kimberley Kupp’s massive…contract. I think he’s got one more good year in him as a first-down  maker and then the miles of yards that he’s run will catch up to him. Okay, thinking about it some more, maybe two because he’ll not see a CB1.

Sports For Viewing Tonight:

All kinds of  NHL hockey and college basketball. What, do I have to hold your hand? You know what you like. (I’m tired and cranky. Sorry about that)

Found a funny:

Chuck Schumer is a call to action not a name

anti-establishment crusader uhhh Susan Rice

Whoa!

WCS

I may have just stopped an in-progress burglary/home invasion.

The woman is bed-bound, and heard someone trying to access her front door. The door has a keypad as the lock. She heard someone inputting the wrong numbers. She called her son who said it wasn’t him and to call the police. She does that, and gets me. As we’re talking, the police arrived.

Unknown male found and detained while trying to access a back window. It is not her son. Holy shit.

Horatio Cornblower

I don’t want to come off as unreasonable, but everyone associated with the death of the NIT Tournament and the birth of whatever the Crown Basketball Jerk-Off Finale* should be slowly lowered, face first, into a vat of boiling dog shit.

*might not be the actual name

Horatio Cornblower

Just drank some water.

Weird.

SonOfSpam

You think THAT’S weird…I’ve had water instead of beer exclusively tonight, and I have no idea why. Thinking about going to the ER since something is obviously wrong.

TheRevanchist

Well, this game is over. Time to watch the Mountain West game.

Horatio Cornblower

I took tomorrow off for that minor surgery thing I talked about, but I canceled that when the price was estimated at $14K, with me at least 2,600 out of pocket and no guarantee it wouldn’t go higher if the anesthesiologist was out-of-plan, but kept the day off.

Which is good, because I am working on my third beer at 12:22 am and will need about 3 hours to decompress from this UConn game.

Also the US Healthcare system is an abomination and I am just going to have Mrs. Horatio flatten this cyst out with a brick and then go to the ER.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

What story are you going to give the ER about how it happened?

Horatio Cornblower

“I had my wife try to fix my cyst with a brick and now I need stitches. Here’s my $500 ER co-pay, which is a lot less than $2600. Get to stepping.”

Then I’ll probably sway back and forth, vomit on my feet, and pass out.

SonOfSpam

If he can’t perform minor neck surgery, why do you even HAVE a dwarf?

Horatio Cornblower

I’m 6’1″. Like he can reach.

SonOfSpam

People often have surgery whilst not standing, but maybe Connecticut is different due to coriolis effect or something.

Horatio Cornblower

WE’RE HAVING A LUNAR ECLIPSE TONIGHT, AND YOU EXPECT ME TO HAVE SURGERY WHILE LYING DOWN???? I GUESS YOU BELEIVE IN VACCINES AS WELL, AND REJECT THE EFFICACY OF LEACHES TOO!!!

SonOfSpam

(feels for head lumps in specific areas)

By Jove, you’re right.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

I was going to suggest that Villanova’s Jhamir Brickus should change his name to Swish but people might get the wrong idea.

2Pack

More rain. It’s into the gym.

FB_IMG_1741458787634
Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

I’m hoping it doesn’t rain tomorrow so I can go swimming, but it will probably rain.

Horatio Cornblower

Yeah, god forbid you get wet while swimming.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

I’m very pampered here in Los Angeles. The prospect of being chilly for ten seconds while walking from the deck to the water is unacceptable to me.

Horatio Cornblower

Our community center throws everyone out of the pool and shuts down for 45 minutes as soon as lightning strikes within 20 miles.

It’s an indoor pool.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Yeah, I used to do that when I was a lazy lifeguard too. One time I got to third base with my coworker during the shutdown.

King Hippo

Villanova needs to GIT WITH TEH TIMES and re-brand as NuCrib

TheRevanchist

Someone has you conned.

Horatio Cornblower

I would prefer they just start missing every shot.

And also that Gus Johnson keel over.

Horatio Cornblower

Just checked, both my senators are ignoring Schumer and voting no on the CR. So I’ve got that going for me.

Which is nice.

He’ll make a note to have a long, stern conversation with those Senators which will accomplish plenty, such as wasting oxygen, time, and ability to actually be productive!

Horatio Cornblower

I’m OK with whatever deprives Chuck Schumer of oxygen.

Doktor Zymm

Garth Marengi’s Darkplace.
What. The. Fuck.?

King Hippo

I am **THIS CLOSE** to declaring Senators* fanhood

*the goons from The Canadia, Chuck Schumer can go fuck hisself

WCS

But, but, but… Chuck is a valued, needed, and respected Senator, who’s opinions and insight are always tak—

I can’t finish that. He’s so useless. DO BETTER NEW YORK.

Redshirt

AOC, its your time to take over the DNC. Pelosi screwed you out of the Oversight Chair. Now take your revenge.

King Hippo

Shipping Shapiro/AOC as the 2028 ticket, as if we are going to have non-Orbanist elections ever again.

Hopefully I will drop ded soon enough for this to be moot.

SonOfSpam

I prefer the fatter governor just to the west of Shapiro, but then maybe game recognizes game.

Gatoraids

I have not yet begun to surrender!

Redshirt

(sends out another fundraising email about him surrendering)

Horatio Cornblower

“Can you see your way clear to send us just $10 to allow us to buy a bigger white sheet to wave at Donald Trump as he tramples everything we hold dear?”

Gatoraids

in their defense Republicans dont seem to mind accommodating those wearing white sheets

Redshirt

Whenever you have the urge to ask why I ended up a Republican in the first place, please keep in mind that Democratic Leadership (with the exception for the charismatic President or two) is/was led by people like Chuck Schumer and keep that in consideration.

SonOfSpam

Maybe disappointing and useless, but GOP leadership has been Hastert, Gingrich, McConnell, etc.

Useless > evil

Horatio Cornblower

When the other side is evil you need someone interested in doing something other than leading ineffectual chants or trying to fundraise off the latest Trump atrocity. Schumer is not that guy.

SonOfSpam

Oh absolutely, it wasn’t a defense of Schumer, just a point that his assholery isn’t somehow worse than the GOP shit.

Horatio Cornblower

It is though. Abdicating a position of authority in the face of that evil is at least just as bad. And I’d argue it’s worse because Schumer is clearly counting on things getting worse by the fall, when we’ll go through this again, hoping to gain votes because people are made miserable. Fuck that guy.

Redshirt

Yes, but I had respectable Ohio Republicans and the Republican Party wasn’t completely evil back then. Also, picture Democratic incompetence mixed with Ohio incompetence.

Evil doesn’t sound so bad then, does it?

SonOfSpam

(thinks about Hastert raping boys)

Well, yes, but I see what you’re saying.

Horatio Cornblower

Useless geriatric fuck.

Schumer, not Hippo.

Guess who’s back to annoy the piss out of yinz?

Mr. Ayo

OMG, who?

SonOfSpam

He’s never gonna tell us.

Horatio Cornblower

I hope it’s Otto Man!

TheRevanchist

The ghost of Richie Cunningham?

WCS

Otto Man confirmed

Gumbygirl

Jesus Christ, this Twaaalve floor is killing me. It looks like knockoff Louis Vuitton or something even tackier Ivanka Trump would be making in her kiddie sweatshops.

Horatio Cornblower

It should really come with a seizure warning.

ArmedandHammered

i can’t watch it makes my brain hurt

Gumbygirl

SonOfSpam

(I love pissing off MAGAts like the next cishet male, but ain’t none of them watching Top Chef)

litre_cola

Deci’s futbol was across from a Costco. When at the punch screen I asked myself if I should get 2 Polish dogs to go with my slice of pizza “just to be safe”.

Horatio Cornblower

Really hope the answer was yes.

litre_cola

Safety 1st!

Gumbygirl

Polish dogs, you say? Howsabout a couple of these?

WOOF HURR DURR WOOF MY SUBMARINE HAS A SCREEN DOOR WOOF

ArmedandHammered

Creighton and DePaul has been an excellent game. 2nd ot so far.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

I was lucky enough to tune in for the first overtime, let’s keep this party going!

Horatio Cornblower

I was rooting hard for DePaul, but the problem is they just aren’t very good.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Hats off to them for at least making it fun. It took a 45% FT shooter outperforming and making four in a row to finally close the door on them.

Horatio Cornblower

They blew an 11 point lead with 2 minutes to go in regulation. This is kind of on them.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Yeah but I didn’t see that part, so it doesn’t count.

Senor Weaselo

They haven’t been good since…

Shit, when were they good?

Don T

After a coupla screwdrivers, I believe subbing Cointreau for vodka is ghh🛥️ 4.bmi!?💿herm

litre_cola

So I have had Deci in futbol since he was 3. Only house league, but he is far taller than other children his age so he wanted to play in the competitive league. We are at his evaluations, which I guess used to be called tryouts. I hate all of the parents already. I am fucking nervous for him as he doesn’t have the edge that I or BC Dick or Mrs Cola had.

However he plays cb, and loves to tackle and stonewall kids that want to go by him.

ballsofsteelandfury

Edge is developed, not born. He’ll be fine.

litre_cola

He is a gentle soul. No fucking idea where he got that from?

Don T

Unrequested coaching advice: show him Charles Barkley rebounding videos. Great technique for Deci to take opponets on a trip through Elbow Meadows.

Horatio Cornblower

“he doesn’t have the edge that I or BC Dick or Mrs Cola had.”

Little young to be playing in a gin-induced rage though, isn’t he?

BC Dick

Once he gets used to beating up on the other children he’ll find it comes naturally. I once broke a QB’s leg and then concussed his backup on the very next play. That’s his age 14 milestone. He’ll get there.

Gumbygirl

I bought some smoked Gouda Cheezits. Not sure if I’m a fan, but the cat loves them.

The last thing a drifter outside Thunder Bay ever hears…

Horatio Cornblower

I saw the replay of Flagg’s ankle. We’re way past roll and right into “Horatio threw up in his mouth a little.”

That’s gonna take a lot of rest, a lot of ice, a lot of physical therapy, and a whole lot of Toradol.

litre_cola

By God that’s King Hippo’s music!
