Your “The Second Best Pot I’ve Ever Owned” Monday Midday Open Thread

Since many of us have a holiday today, I was sort of bored.  So I decided to cook some good stuff.

This is my Instant Pot….

There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I’ve used the hell outta this thing since I got it a coupla weeks ago.  Maryland Crab Soup (shut up about my typo you assholes).  Pork Ribs.  Red Beans and Rice.  A weird little Mac n Cheese thing which tried to burn because I set the time wrong but it still turned out OK in spite of my stupidity.

And today, finally, NC Style Brunswick Stew.  On slow cook.  This is the first time I’ve used the slow cook function.  So, it’s a work in progress, no doubt.  We’ll see.  I had planned to do this on Saturday, but redneck fambly members intervened onto my schedule with unscheduled visits.  Then again yesterday….same thing.

But today, the house smells like a slow cooking sumbitch.

I love fall.  It’s too damned hot and humid here to cook in the summer.  But now I’m rolling.

And what, might you ask, is my favorite pot?

OH DON’T ACT SO SURPRISED IT’S AS IF YOU PEOPLE JUST MET ME OR SOMETHING.

Seriously though.  I dunno if it shows up in the photo, but that plant is flowering.  Won’t yield much if anything as far as “usable quantity”, more than likely.  But I was still very happy about it happening.  That little plant gon’ do some stuff next year.

Late last week I picked almost six pounds of tomatoes. Ate/gave away the pretty ones then last night I made an improvised Sunday Gravy with the ugly tomatoes and homegrown onions, basil, oregano, thyme … that’s all of the homegrown ingredients I think. Gonna start making meatballs soon. Won’t be using my pressure cooker tho.

BrettFavresColonoscopy

How come none of you home chefs ship?

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

I’m a Raiders fan, I haven’t ‘shipped since I was seven years old.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

It’s crazy when a tomato plant really starts producing. I had a similar phase over the summer where I had more tomatoes than I knew what to do with. Then the spider 2Y banana mites came…

King Hippo

Los Doyers should have pinch hit for Hill in top of 4th.

King Hippo

HUZZAH!!! FC Metz won, on a 78th minute penno, allowing me to #HAILGAMBLOR ON N’AWLINS tonite (fudged the line down to -5.5 for -118, allows one to win on overtime TD ,, ppl forget that).

Line next Sunday is only +3.5/+165 for the Chefs, think it will improve for me.

Like Guns Up!! at Bloodeyes (+7.5/+250) in Thursday nite JV.

yeah right

I’m currently at the Arclight Beach Cities theater waiting to see…

A Star is Born.

I apologize for nothing.

I’ll let you know how it is later.

Low Commander of the Super Soldiers

A coworker I trust said it was amazing, but hedge your bets!

King Hippo

I judge you both, I ain’t even NOE U.

The Astros have come a long way.

Might as well as change your handle to theeWeeBabyCrapSoup now and spare yourself the time.

We all talking weather? 77 here. Rained much of the weekend so got to enjoy two of the about five nights a year we can just leave the windows open.

Snowbirds will be here soon and then I’ll be trapped back inside for fear of my life if I dare share the road with all those Cadillacs.

litre_cola

So funny but so true. When visiting my parents (yep, snow birds) they live in a neighboUrhood where 60% of the vehicles are Cadillacs, big old Buicks, LTD’s, Crown Victorias, or Cutlass Supremes and most of them are over 20 years old and in mint condition. These vehicles view stop signs and red lights as suggestions.

scotchnaut

I’ve noticed this quite a bit. Back in the ’70’s the ‘successful’ folks drove those boats so the generation that came after them-in order to show that they were successful-bought the same vehicles.

Nowadays this manifests itself in mid-40’s to late 50’s aged fellas buying today’s version of the muscle cars that were the cat’s ass back in the late 60’s/early 70’s. Mustangs, Challengers, Chargers, Corvettes-I’ve yet to see a 20-something behind the wheel.

blaxabbath

Yeah – I think kids these days are about luxury #branding, rather than performance or specs. I mean, that’s sort of the point of luxury cars but, overall, just get that fancy hood ornament.

Viva La Tabula Raza

My nephews (all in their 20’s) don’t give a fuck about cars, except as point A to point B, all their cars are personality-free Camrys and the like. I offered to let one of them to take his girlfriend for a spin in the above-mentioned corvette when they were visiting, and he told me he’d love to but he didn’t know how to drive a manual.

Viva La Tabula Raza

I just bought a 1965 Chevy Impala SS (am 59 yrs old) in beautiful shape. I restored one when I was in college 30 years ago and sold it when it became ridiculous for me as a single guy to have 4 vehicles. I kept the 1964 Corvette roadster I had bought out of a junkyard and restored just after high school, I’ve had it 42 years now and had been pining for my old Impala. Now I have to sell the Corvette.
My daily driver is a Lexus GS350 sedan, and I love all the modern gee-whiz stuff that comes with it. But if I’m going to drive a hot-rod/muscle car, I want an old one that people notice, not one of the new ones that are all over the place.

Careful with that Axe Eugene

Here in the Peoria area it’s 90% Buicks with Washington plates.

Wakezilla

Oh this day is getting better and better. Woke up this morning with a slight ear ache, no big deal. Now, I’m about about an 8.5/10 on the pain threshold and I have to go to a walk-in clinic on Thanksgiving. Been an hour and counting. Urge to kill rising

Fronkenshteen

Ugh. I had to get the tubes in the eardrums & adenoids removed surgery when I was 8 because I got chronic earaches. Hope they’ve figured out how to relieve the pain since then.

Knowing what I now know about Mel Gibson, I just can’t bring myself to watch “Lethal Weapon”. “Die Hard” is just fine though.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Lethal Weapon II is even more ridiculous. In real life he’d buy lunch for the racist Afrikaners and gift them a few new fish for their tank.

WCS

Wakezilla is talking about blizzards, and it’s friggin’ 85 degrees in Yinzburgh today. It was 90 yesterday. In October. Fuck this.

Fronkenshteen

Here in Virginia, the lawns JUST browned out for the first time. Sort of. Usually you don’t even have to mow for about a month between mid-July & mid-August, but it rained like a bastard all summer. And yup, now it’s hot as balls, just when I need it to finally start cooling off. Fucking black walnuts pounding my roof all day and night. The grass spiders are the size and speed of small mice. I need winter, and the stillness of death to settle over the land.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Ah, nothing like having the grease trap from your griddle fall out while you’re removing it from the shelf and as it lands discovering that you forgot to clean it the last time you used it to make bacon, about a month ago.

litre_cola

oh lord, that would be wrong.

Low Commander of the Super Soldiers

But is your retirement grease still okay?!

Wakezilla

In Calgary, it almost always snows in late October. This year it began late September and we got a blizzard on October 1st. As we’re about to get another YUGE snow dump today, I can’t help but wonder how anyone even gives a shit about Halloween here. As I look outside and see the snow coming down, all I want to do is put up Christmas decorations.

yeah right

Goddamn that’s early for snow.

Game Time Decision

I’m in southern Ontario and it used to snow before Thanksgiving. Like a dusting, nothing like what Wake and Litre have. Now with global warming, not so much.

litre_cola

Isn’t it great???

/is not great

Does this costume fit over a Parka? Important questions when picking out an outfit in Canuckia

Yep, born and raised in Winnipeg and they all had to fit over my parka growing up.

“Maryland Crap Soup”

Also known as Baltimore’s water supply

Game Time Decision

Gonna need to make some stew in mine now that it’s colder outside.

yeah right

If you’re going to use potatoes, use the small waxy kind. Russets will turn to mush.

^pro tip.

Maryland Crap Soup.

My favorite pot:
comment image/revision/latest?cb=20110206225317

JustStopDude

The Dutch make some amazing french onion soup, along with fish and chips.

I ate like a pig.

I also got one of those pot things. They are hot shit. Fucking awesome how fast they are. What I love though are the warnings about them from complete idiots

BrettFavresColonoscopy

If you don’t put a sticker on there that says “don’t put nails and tacks in here” then it’s your fault when they asplode themselves.

nomonkeyfun

I think many of the gifs Moose posts are proof that any and all warnings are needed to prevent more Darwin Award winners.

Low Commander of the Super Soldiers

Prevent Darwin Awards? Speak for yourself there, friendo. The herd needs more thinning out.

I think my favorite one was a chainsaw that had the warning of: Do not attempt to stop the blade with your hands or genitals.

Wakezilla

The key to their French onion soup is that the Dutch bake the cheese in their oven

ArmedandHammered

I tried to use mine to make Hungarian goulash, I think I should have reduced the amount of liquids though, it was a delicious Hungarian goulash soup however, especially when I added the spaetzel. Gonna take some experimenting to get it right though.

yeah right

That’s a true statement. It’s similar to a slow cooker because water/ steam doesn’t release during the cooking process unlike cooking on a stove top. You also need to add a bit more seasoning.
Motherfucker IS fast though.
