Eventual Balls Thoughts XXXVI

The last two weeks have been… eventful. Understandably, most of the discussion has centered around the election and politics. However, that’s not my favourite topic.

As a matter of fact, if it was up to me, we wouldn’t even discuss politics or religion on this site, as the old adage says. However, as I also pointed out in these pages, the beautiful thing about this site is that we do not control or have rules about content.

Anything goes.

The only that doesn’t go is personal attacks. We will intervene when one commentist attacks another. We treat everyone that comes here as mature adults and we expect arguments or disputes to be handled civilly.

I should also mention that full-frontal nudity is, for some reason, also not allowed. Don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos.

All of this preamble is to tell you that the reason that we didn’t have an Eventual Balls Thoughts post last week and the reason why this one is different is that the usual funny took a back seat to political discussion. So, I don’t have much to showcase. Mind you, there was still some hilarious commentary, but I just don’t have the energy to go through all that political stuff to find it.

Instead, I will serve up some discussion points for y’all to discuss in the comments as there are no other posts scheduled for today and y’all seem to enjoy Open Threads.

With Week 9 of the NFL season completed after last night’s game, here are , in no particular order, the teams that I consider the best in each conference and that have a shot to go far in the playoffs if things break their way:

AFC

  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Baltimore Ravens
  • Tennessee Titans
  • Buffalo Bills

NFC

  • Seattle Seahawks
  • New Orleans Saints
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Green Bay Packers

Yes, I omitted a bunch of teams that have a chance to and WILL make the playoffs but there was really no need to list them. Your Super Bowl winner is going to be one of the nine teams listed above

Did anyone watch the Notre Dame-Clemson game on Saturday night? I would be shocked, SHOCKED I TELL YOU if there isn’t a major COVID outbreak in South Bend in the next two weeks. Then again, COVID is probably the least risky disease one can pick up at Notre Dame.

As a public service, please note that if you decide to move to work remotely from a warm location other than your state of residence, there are tax implications as your income might be subject to taxation from the place you are now living in.

This should be fairly obvious to anyone that has ever filed their own taxes instead of hiring a professional, but many people don’t know this and could be in for a nasty surprise come tax time.

Having spoken with some scientists and pandemic specialists for work recently, I am heartened to hear that there is progress among many fronts on the fight against COVID-19. Just yesterday, Pfizer announced that their vaccine is 90% effective. However, there are some things to keep in mind.

This virus, like the flu virus, can and has already mutated into different strains. The vaccines being tested are effective against a particular strain of the virus. Typically, the “flu shot” that is offered each year is the vaccine that counteracts the flu virus expected to be most prevalent during each flu season. This means that one can catch the flu even though they got the shot. They just caught a different strain that was not as prevalent.

The scientists tell me that the COVID vaccines will work in the same way. There is one particular strain that is the most contagious and that’s the one they are attacking the hardest. That’s the one that will most likely be released to the general public first. However, that does not mean that the battle against COVID has been won.

There will be many people that, like the flu shot, refuse to get the COVID shot. There will also be people that will get sick from COVID and may die from it even though they got the shot.

On the bright side, a lot of progress is being made on the treatment front. Medicines to manage the symptoms and consequences of contracting COVID are being developed and trialed across the globe. We are already seeing evidence of this progress as death rates have continued to fall even as cases continue to climb.

All of this is to say that while we are not out of the woods yet and we still have to follow protocols and closures in order to not overwhelm the medical system, we are getting closer to resuming many of the activities we have not been able to enjoy.

Who did Tom Jackson piss off? At first, he was brought back along with Chris Berman to revive NFL Primetime and now he’s been replaced by Booger McFarlane. Someone with inside access please let me know because I know there’s got to be some reason he’s not at ESPN anymore.

We used to love and quote Archer around here a lot, but that has apparently gone away. I know a lot of you didn’t care for the “coma seasons”, but this last season brought things back to the way they used to be.

I don’t know about you all, but I watched every episode and really enjoyed the season. They’ve done a really good job of tying everything together and have laid out a good path for the story to continue going forward. While it was thought that the show would get cancelled after this season, it was actually renewed for Season 12 a few weeks ago. If it is as good as this season, I see no reason why it can’t continue.

FWIW, I loved the Dreamland and Pacific Island seasons. I never really got into the Space season (Season 10), but I’m rewatching it now and my opinion may change.

I know that Domino’s Pizza has gotten a bad rap, but I tried it recently and I was very impressed. The Philly Cheesesteak pizza has no right to be good, but it is amazing. In the same vein, the Cheeseburger pizza sounds like it might be an abortion served on warm bread, but it is also delicious. It really tastes like a cheeseburger!

You can call me the TWBS of food (TWBS:music::Balls:food) because of the paragraph above and the fact that I love Taco Bell. I understand.

I’m just saying that you might be pleasantly surprised.

BTW, have you tried the new Grilled Cheese Burritos and Toasted Cheddar Chalupas at Taco Bell?!? SO GOOD!!

Am I the only one that gets upset when the Stepmom gets “trapped” in an easily escapable situation? I mean, hand in the garbage disposal? I could see that. Upper torso stuck underneath the bed? It’s been known to happen! Trick glue on the countertop? Potentially painful, but yeah, that shit can easily happen.

However, you get your hand stuck in the sofa cushions and you can’t get free? STEPMOM PLEASE!

I’d like a little realism in my faux incest porn, s’il vous plait! Is that too much to ask for?

Thank you to everyone one for providing quality laughs and gifs/pics to look at. Have a good week, everyone!

Balls somehow lost his bio and didn't realize it. He's now scrambling to write something clever and failing. He likes butts, boobs, most things that start with the letter B, and writing in the Second Person. Geelong, Toluca, Barcelona, and Steelers, in that order.

Unsurprised

Domino’s pan pizza is good.

Tax evasion is better.

I just learned Archer is still on and in its 11th season.

Fuck Notre Dame.

Sharkbait

Papa Johns was my go to drunk bad pizza in college. The garlic dipping sauce is pretty good when you’re shitfaced

Game Time Decision

we all have our skeletons

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

“We sure do.” – Craig James, checking for the 9th time today to make sure his collection is still intact

Redshirt

At one point in my life, I actually liked Papa Johns Pizza.

SonOfSpam

1) Completely with you on Archer. STILL GREAT.

v) Domino’s is not great, but not the worst. And Taco Bell is fine unless you care about your health, which is a stupid thing to care about.

&) Very VERY ashamed that I was nodding in agreement on the stepmother thing.

Senor Weaselo

I had a toasted cheddar chalupa… for free… at the bar across the street from Yankee Stadium which has a walk-up window for the Taco Bell next door.

Not bad, but maybe a little too toasted. Like, burnt. Also I have to ask for no tomatoes because fuck raw tomatoes.

yeah right

I thought the political discourse was needed in this instance. For over 8 months this entire planet has been in a pressure cooker and there was finally a release of steam. It was very cathartic.

As far as religion goes I generally don’t discuss it because there is no God.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

I’m glad that Joe Biden destroyed God, all that jerk has been doing for the last four months is throwing hurricanes at Louisiana.

SonOfSpam

Aside from New Orleans, doesn’t Louisiana deserve it?

Game Time Decision

there is no God

Bleergh disagrees with the heathen

Sharkbait

Bleergh is a vengeful God.

Senor Weaselo

Our god is a vengeful god
He reigns from Kan-Ton above
With anger for the peons he loathes
‘Cause our god is a vengeful god!

Redshirt

Every win that you pour out, I’ll turn back to praise.
When the derpness closes in, BLEERGH. Still I will say….

Even though God does exist, I don’t discuss Him or use Him to elevate myself or put people down because His Word says to witness through my actions not my words.

God want us to show His love in a practical way, not beat someone over the head with the Bible.

King Hippo

yep, that is pretty much how I roll, too. God mostly wants you not to be a dick ,, ppl forget that.

Downfield Matriculator

I miss the Archer references too — they were one of the reasons I came on this site.

/Wait . . . are we really not doing phrasing anymore?

Redshirt

I really gotta start watching that show.

Redshirt

I haven’t seen a lot of shows/movies.

Oh, BTW, espn laid off a bunch of staff to save money. Remember how much they paid for rights to games? Well, they mismanaged that, and now they are trying to push everyone onto ESPN+ to make some extra cash. If ESPN wanted to know why no one watches them anymore, look at the programming. Just shows of people fake arguing about the dumbest shit. No bodybuilding competitions, no lumberjack competitions, no strongest man competitions. Those kept me watching. They were fun. When I turn on now, I just want to punch everyone in the mouth.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Damn straight. ESPN became the juggernaut that it is today because if you felt like watching TV and there was nothing on, you could find some random form of competition taking place on ESPN.

Dunstan

It amazes me that those shows attract viewers. I mean, I get that people are suckers for “hot takes” about sports that enrage them, but there’s plenty of idiots on Twitter spewing that stuff.

Then again, I’m still surprised that the late night celebrity interview shows survive. They began as cheap filler content for the hours when not enough people are watching to justify the expense of a prime time show. In my teens and early 20s, I might watch Letterman because it was late and nothing else was on, and by that standard Letterman was pretty cool. But I can’t remember the last time I watched one of those shows now that I have a ton of streaming options plus whatever’s on my DVR.

TheRevanchist

We got the memo just yesterday that talked about the legal and tax ramifications about traveling and working. Basically told to not do it by corporate. Cool

I have a video call at 9:30. May I present my new background:

Choosing a sleazy porn shop as the background to a press conference is the perfect metaphor for the Trump Presidency and the Trump Brand as a whole.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

You’d really have to pepper in a few “I’m not even supposed to BE here today!” mentions if you did that.

yeah right

Hey Balls. Check the Slack channel under Random. You can post it, I ain’t care. It’s from 2007.

I’m currently at work, Balls. On a Tuesday. With no funny GIFs and highlights from the last week. And you want chipper, happy Open Thread crap?!
