Yes it is! San Diego to Seattle with sleeper cars, a dining car, and an observation car.
The Pacific Surfliner runs the same route but only as far north as San Luis Obispo and doesn’t have sleeper cars, a dining car, or an observation car. It’s a “day train.” The Coast Starlight only runs three days a week northbound, and three other days a week southbound. Both arrive in San Diego at Santa Fe Depot.
Both are fantastic rides and go right along the ocean. It’s the only way to go from Los Angeles to San Diego. This was my first northbound trip, to Santa Barbara (N on the Surfliner, S on the Starlight). They say the views on the Starlight when it goes through the Cascade Mountains are amazing.
