2pack Returns With Dutch Treat (2023 Women’s World Cup Team Report – The Netherlands (Dutch Ladies!))

The Dutch ladies currently ranked 9 th in FIFA world standings are in Group E along with the USA (1), Portugal (21) and Vietnam (32). They begin group play with Portugal on 23 July, followed by the USA 27 July and finishing up with Vietnam on 1 August. Going strictly by the rankings, if they avoid any upsets they should advance to the knockout stage, and might just give the USA a good run at it in the group play.

The team has 3 WWC appearances with their best finish in 2019 as runners-up to the US team Mid Fielder Sherida Spitse is the squad’s captain. She plays for Ajax professionally and has 44 goals in international play to her credit.

Consensus is that the poor showing in last years European championship, after winning it in 2017, may be the motivation this strong side needs to exceed expectations this time around. If they beat or draw with the US team in group play I would not count them out.

Not knowing enough about the topic to offer an informed prediction, I will say this. The Orange can go deep into a tournament, they have before and recently. Being 9 th ranked takes a lot of pressure off, people do not expect much. They look like a fun and loose bunch, I like their odds.

They look to be one of the best things going on in Holland. As opposed to Amsterdam airport. That place. I hate it. I’m now taking options to connect in Charles De Gaulle (no chit!) rather than revisit that goat rope that lost my luggage the last three times I passes through. But I digress…

Go get ‘em Orange Chicks!

[…] despite a modicum of effort, so I focused on an easier get that still promised to be exciting: the Netherlands vs South Africa. This was a round of 16 game where South Africa had already exceeded expectations […]

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Final entry: the house temperature never got higher than 81° – it’s 87° outside now so I’m opening things up and letting the breeze run through.

BrettFavresColonoscopy

“final” because your wife is going to murder you?

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Pfft. She objects to running the A/C more than I do.

Doktor Zymm

I know I haven’t been in the swing of things recently, but last time I checked 87 was more than 81, so how is opening up supposed to help?

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Without a breeze, particularly this late in the day, things feel pretty stuffy. I’d rather have the fresh air. Plus, it’s only going to get cooler.

Alright people, I’m doing it. I’ll be in Australia for a bunch of August. Sydney first and then Melbourne. Which non AFL games should I go to?

Last edited 9 months ago by BrettFavresColonoscopy
yeah right

I’m going to sit back and watch. Paint that picture because I would love to go.

Maybe next year because this year is booked.

ballsofsteelandfury

WhooHoo!!

yeah right

It’s got to be rugby. See the South Sydney Rabbitohs host a game. Maybe you can spill a beer on Russell Crowe.

Doktor Zymm

Second this, would love to see a boots on the ground from some Aussie rugby

BrettFavresColonoscopy

Funny I was thinking more women’s world cup but I’m open to whatever

Doktor Zymm

Bring back some fun slang!

Doktor Zymm

People who refrigerate tomatoes are monsters

scotchnaut

“What kind of monster?”

/asking for a fiend

-Lon Chaney

yeah right

Last week at the grocery store the food bagger put my bananas in the same bag as my frozen strawberries.

That’s practically a war crime.

Doktor Zymm

I ordered some stuff from Eataly via Instacart and while I am glad they refrigerated the fresh ricotta, they really didn’t need to stick the heirloom tomatoes in the same bag while they were doing it. Now that my Instacart benefit is expiring I will happily never order with them again.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

“No, no, Eli, it was just a nightmare. Go back to sleep.”

Producer: “Yer gonna sing the National Anthem before this NASCAR race. Could you maybe gussy-up yer clothes a bit.”

Singer: “I’ll wear my Sunday best!”

Also Singer: [wears a flower-spattered semi-mumu ensemble]

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

81° now. It’s not too bad in here, run a fan at low power and it’s downright pleasant.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

80° in the house now, 88° outside.

“RTD has now increased his lead by 1.5 degrees. Duncan Winthorpe in Phoenix is dealing with a micro high-pressure situation. RTD is very likely going to make the semi-finals.”

Horatio Cornblower

Seems like a foolish question, but is this a game where you try not to run the AC?

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

A bit like that, yeah. Except if it gets too hot to handle any of my obligations instead of turning on the A/C I take a nap.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

The trick is to have a pet show you how it’s done.

Doktor Zymm

I gots my bedjet for this sort of situation. No AC for me here, although I do have a portable unit I can hook up but I would need to move it to a smaller room since it turns out not to be strong enough for the main room. It also costs a fortune to run because PG&E is passing the cost of all the lawsuits they have to pay out after setting entire towns on fire directly to the consumer!

yeah right

73 and a light breeze in Pedro.

I’ll try and struggle through.

scotchnaut

/last night, about 6pm

Me: “Hey [youngest son], where you headed?”

Him: “Going for a drive to North Bay.” (3 1/2 hours away but he loves driving)

Me: “Huh. Drive safe.”

/this morning

Me: [looks out into the yard, sees a camping trailer] “WTF?”

/turns out that he bought said trailer (built in 1999 and in immaculate condition) for $5600
//well, borrowed from his mother
///he’s 18 and now has a truck, a boat and a camper trailer, all on the cheap that he’s paying back to us.

scotchnaut

No, but he referred to the kids that he grew up with in a town of 11k as being “City People”.

/I wish I was exaggerating for comedic effect…

Do you think that maybe the Brits and etc have a siege mentality? They build walls inside their sand traps.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Currently 77° inside but supposedly only 80° outside. I don’t buy it, I was just out there and it’s *way* nicer in here.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

The fact that the comments are timestamped makes this an easy way to keep track. Plus, I have no doubt it is absolutely fascinating to bystanders.

Horatio Cornblower

Haitian keeper is pretty good.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Currently 71°, and seems to be warmer outside than inside. Time to formally close things up.

Horatio Cornblower

CT is having its first nice, warm, breezy, non-humid day in I think the entire month. Opening up the entire house today.

/Waits patiently for Canada to set more of itself on fire.

litre_cola

Good morning. Had a woman send back 3 bottles of the same wine as she said it was off last night. On the third I stated that maybe this isn’t what she likes?

“I know what I like and this (Sangiovese) is it, these wines are off.”

“I am sorry but they were fine, would you like to select something else.”

“I want a Sangiovese that isn’t off! What do you know anyway?”

“Le sigh, I have been doing this for 27 years, in 4 countries, 16 restaurants and have my sommelier papers.”

Husband comes to the rescue!
“Babe, I think he knows what he is talking about. Could you just bring us what you think will pair with our meal.”

“Absolutely, I will bring you a Chianti (Sangiovese) that is less acidic and a little bit dryer.”

Husband : “Thank you.”

He then gives me the look that this is what he deals with everyday. She enjoyed the Chianti I brought her but wouldn’t make eye contact the rest of the meal. He tipped me 30%. I have no problem with a shame tip.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

So what did you do with the wine that was supposedly “off”? Asking for a friend.

litre_cola

I wouldnt have gone 3 deep if it wasnt available by the glass. One sure. Three no chance. You see, the resto can return wine to the distributor that is off for a refund unless purchased at auction. So, if it was just by the bottle you could put the two in there sans cork and it would go off by the time the case is picked up by the distributor.

BrettFavresColonoscopy

Shocked she didn’t demand to see your papers.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

Morrissey would have.

Wait, you mean immigration papers, right?

Doktor Zymm

Granted, I frequently do wine pairings or wines by the glass, but I’ve never actually gotten a wine that was off. Unless there was some sort of problem that ruined an entire bottling and somehow wasn’t caught during the distro process it seems crazy that even 2, much less 3 bottles could be off. I know people are pretty crap at probability, but I would absolutely doubt myself at 2, even if they actually were bad

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

I opened up the house and let enough cool air in that it’s now 67° in here. Once the sun is up I’ll close things up, and we’ll see how much cooler it stays inside the house than outside. The high today is predicted to be 91°.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

“The dishwasher didn’t run last night.” – the Dr. Mrs. Deadly, Esq. (ret), neglecting to mention that *she* was the last one to put something inside and failed to close it properly so it would run on the timer I set. That throws a Darren Sproles sized wrench in my house-cooling plans.

Mr. Ayo

Still chuckle about the banner comment on Spitse not being as popular back home as her sister Swallowse.

ballsofsteelandfury

That’s an all-timer

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

I’m flattered that it’s still remembered four years later.

Rikki-Tikki-Deadly

My brain is very good at taking credit for other people’s work, but in this case that actually *was* one of my creations.

Halfway through this China match, but the sun is coming up. I need to get some sleep. So, good morning, everyone.

Well she is a Sweetheart too.

Italy plays Argentina Monday morning at 0800 here. Gonna be hard to gauge interest with that south Pacific time warp in place. But I’m gonna try and drop in a Cafe or two near work before my 1000 meeting to assess (and watch attractive, athletic ladies run around in shorts).

Translate for me Buddy. I need to check out number 5 it would appear… But I have no clue of which squad you speak of…
