Time, Indeed: Tuesday Open Thread

Y’all fucked now.

It’s gonna be Buffalo and Philadelphia fans in New Orleans, a town second only to Las Vegas in promoting itself as The Home of Excess. Hide your daughters, hide your folding tables, grease up your lightpoles: it’s gonna get weird.

Seriously. The Bills are succeeding even when they are using a completely different offensive playbook than their normal one. Kansas City is vulnerable. Philly will (probably) have a (mostly) healthy Jalen Hurts out there for the majority of the game. And Jayden Daniels is at significant risk of being Killed Dead the first time he goes for a long scramble after Frankie Luvu’s hit on Hurts during these teams’ last meeting.

Prepare your anuses for the inevitable.

COACHING SEARCH:

-Whelp, Ben Johnson decided that Caleb Williams was worth putting up with Ryan Pace and the McCaskeys.

Which is defensible until you remember that Penei Sewell and Company are staying in Detroit. Chicago led(?) the league in sacks allowed with 68, placing Williams at third on the list for most sacks taken in a single season. Detroit allowed only 33. The Bears pick 10th in a draft with one (1) likely stud offensive lineman. They may be able to buy some line help, but given that they will have to start by retaining Teven Jenkins, money may tighten up quick.

Also, quick cardiac stress test for my Bear Fan friends: Ben Johnson was mentored by John Shoop.

You ok? Handle that blood pressure spike alright?

CLEANUP ON AISLE 10!

-Whither the Raiders then? Tom Terrific was making a hard sell to Ben Johnson on life in the desert. What good is having a vanity minority owner if he can’t even convince a guy to come work for you?

-Allegedly the Cowboys assumed Mike McCarthy wasn’t going to leave and are now scrambling to conduct an actual coaching search.

I didn’t expect to say this, but I’m proud of McCarthy. Spinelessness has been a bona fide occupational qualification for the Dallas head coaching job since the Jimmy Johnson Divorce, with the Bill Parcells experiment setting it in stone. So for McCarthy to walk out because Jerry and Stephen wouldn’t give him some job security was an unexpected development.

I predict he ends up in Jacksonville and everyone involved from both teams ends up ruing their decisions.

-Aaron Glenn is going to make everyone’s life miserable in New York. Especially his own.

Very much enjoying Ken Tremendous on Bluesky trolling people into thinking he had a HOF vote and didn’t vote for Ichiro. People are losing their minds (the 3% who don’t get the joke).

Magnetism. You can’t explain it.

Today I learned that the octopus is an anti-semitic symbol and the ADL has given a vlogger shit for having an octopus plushie in the background of a video that was mildly critical of Israel

Wait until you hear about watermelons.

And fried chicken. EVERYBODY loves good fried chicken, so i can not understand how it can be racist. I would do almost anything to have some of my mother’s fried chicken again.

ArmedandHammered

WTF? Soon just having a colored geometric shape in certain colors will be considered racist…hold on… OK nvm.

Unsurprised

Singling out John Bolton in the EO revoking those security clearances is a great bit.

Is this a general warning, or a more specific call for preparedness?

Noted. Are there any particular methods or procedures to ensure maximum preparedness?

Mr. Ayo

Saw a video of a snowball fight on Bourbon street.

It’s has to be a crazy fun time there right now.

Heh, yup. Interesting how all the actual fucking nazis are all “That was TOTALLY a nazi salute!! This is awesome!” while major media is being mealy mouthed about it.

Even the ADL has come out and defended A FUCKING NAZI SALUTE. What the actual fuck?

Yeah, my sister has Asperger’s but you don’t see her saluting a demagogue and plunging the world into oblivion.

Unsurprised

Who could ever imagine an organization that spied on Americans for the South African secret services during Apartheid could do such a thing?

BeefReeferLives

“Hey, it might have looked like a Section 31 salute, but it was actually a Tal’Shiar salute, so no problem!!”

Redshirt

“Official policy is there is no Section 31, so it wasn’t a Section 31 Salute! Case closed.”

Anyone here watch an old British SF series called Sapphire and Steele starring a young Joanna Lumley and David McCallum? Started it today, really excellent and creepy.

ballsofsteelandfury

Young Joanna Lumley could get it…

Once again, baseball’s greatest franchise, the New York Yankees, nee’ Hihglanders, show the way, putting two of their former players, CC Sabbathia and Ichiro Suzuki, in the Hall f Fame.

Truly a great day for the Yankees, and no other teams. Probably a pretty good day for Billy Wagner, too.

Yup. The barbs are on point to be sure.

The editing, however, gives me whiplash. (Yeah, I’m old)
