Evening all,
I hope you are having a great Monday so far, if such a thing is possible. We had a really nice peaceful weekend and my wife started switching out her clothes for spring/summer. So I was thinking about doing some changing out myself, when I realized I will need to buy some new clothes due to the amount of weight I have lost. All through BLTC (Better Living Through Chemistry) as my Doc was a little concerned about my blood sugar levels. They were not bad, but they were not headed in the correct direction. So first an oral medication was tried, yeah, not sure what it did for my blood sugar, but it had some side effects which I and the wife were not happy with due to my gastrointestinal tract turning into a wind tunnel. So, the Doc decided the latest injectable was for me, so I got a script for the lowest dose on one of the latest semaglutides.
Now, I do not like needles, I hate needles. The thought of having to inject myself once a week was not something I was really looking forward to having to do. You get over it. Now as with every drug you have side effects, for me it was nausea. And feeling horrible when eating too much. And that has been the biggest change, or I should say the hardest lesson to learn. I finally had to get my normal portions and then halve them, saving the other half for the next day. Growing up, there was a state you could reach when you really, really overeat, think Mr. Creosote on an eating binge, called foundering. This could happen yearly at our cousin reunion. No, I am not from Alabama, so there was nothing like that going on. *shudders*. Anyway, every family was expected to bring enough to feed themselves plus a few others. Usual attendance was between 150 to 200, with every cook trying to out do each other, especially in the desserts. We kids would go through and load our plates till they were about lose their integrity. We always made sure to get the heavier paper plates. Some of the men should have just brought their own platters due to the food they would stack up going through the line. So many different macaroni and cheese dishes, grilled meats, casseroles, fried chicken, home made biscuits, rolls and loaves of bread. Getting hungry here.
The desserts tables were as long as the food tables. Brownies, fudge, caramel cookies, 20 to 30 cakes, plus just as many pies. Lots of us would have to be taken home laying down in the back of the truck, trying not to vomit (wasting food was frowned upon). You would be sick for hours, so full you cannot move, you feel like you are going to explode, and your stomach was so full, that it actually hindered breathing. I have no pride in those actions, just put it down to being a kid and a bit of a glutton. Which, if you are as old as I am, is something you may be familiar with, due to parents always making us clean our plates. Plates that they had piled high with more food than you might have felt like eating. This set a dangerous precedent which followed me into adult hood – always feeling guilty if I did not clean my plate, which does not help in the weight management department.
The reason for my digressing is that, if you are not careful, you can end up feeling like you have floundered yourself. I eventually learned to take smaller portions (even after using the half portions for awhile) and wait a while before having seconds. You eventually eat less and lose the weight, but you will need to exercise, otherwise you are going to lose muscle mass as you cut down your intake, just the way the body works. You will get colder a lot easier as you no longer have that nice warm layer of lard. On the other hand, it has been easier to cool off.
When I started the course of meds I weight over 320 lbs, over the course of the year I have gone down to 240 lbs. I feel better, I look better, and I actually feel better about myself. But, I hate buying clothes.
Sports – baseball and NHL should be on, as for the NBA, actual basketball season ended with the NCAA title game, NBA games are the least watchable of all professional basketball.
Just caught up with the draft discussion. I’m in central San Diego and it was the biggest I’ve felt in the 25 years I’ve been in Cali. Was at work and they made us all leave the building so they could verify no chemical or biohazard mishaps. It came in two waves, first wave was the typical “meh, it’s an earthquake” but when the second wave hit i got a bit worried. At least the Padres just won
Wait, there was a major earthquake in Southern California?
Am I so doped up I didn’t even notice it?
It sounds like it was pretty tame in LA. Was a 5.2 that lasted at least 5 seconds. My kids were outside for recess and totally missed it. Someone at work who was outside the building said he didn’t feel anything but the reflections from the windows were getting stretched and distorted during.
Indoors here was definitely felt
Five seconds? It takes me longer than that to form a coherent thought.
Congrats on the weight loss!
That’s ROCKING!!!!
The president told a Central American dictator to build five more massive slave labor camps to hold US citizens.
That is NOT ROCKING
Also, the missus and I did our taxes this evening. It’s a ritual by now.
We (well, the missus) did our daughter’s taxes the night before. Although I’m not sure why – she doesn’t make much and owns jack shit. Maybe student loan stuff. Anyway, I asked the daughter how much she got and she said, “I owe $4000! Just kidding, I got $1400 back.” Missus says, “$4000 is about what we’ll pay.” And she wasn’t off by much.
i did the IRS file last year but some business rule stopped me this year, so did the freetaxusa which seems like a scam site but works really well if your taxes are simple. even not its seems really cheap and I set a new 10 mins record for doing taxes
I need to start doing mine by hand again, Turbo tax is shit and way too expensive
I used FreeTaxUSA this year and it was no more frustrating than TurboTax and vastly cheaper.
I had to file for an extension, because the Department of Defense wouldn’t let me get Gumby’s 1099R. I think I can get it now, they just sent me a letter saying I’m approved for my portion of his pension. I have until October, I’ll get around to doing them eventually.

In other news, the MIL was complaining about her legs being shaky, and she wasn’t feeling good. She had been handling her prescriptions herself, but the missus took a look at her mom’s little prescription box like the one all us old farts have to have, and it was all fucked up. As in, there was about 20 days left in some bottles that should have had 60 days in them. There were compartments that had two pills where there should have been one of that pill, and one of a particular pill where there shouldn’t have been any. Not surprised she was feeling a bit shaky.
Since I was telling the missus that we needed to do that anyway (it wasn’t the first time MIL had fucked up her dosages) I now get to be the Keeper of the Drugs for MIL. She doesn’t have any good shit, either; just statins, BP medication, heart medication, crazy pills, etc.
(that anguished scream you may have heard was a specific royal aquatic mammal in the vicinity of the Carolinas)
Yikes, glad you two got the issue straightened out.
Oh it was a clusterfuck. We dumped out one bottle and it had four different kinds of pill in it. There’s NFW that I’m going to be able to manage this without a system; there’s about 10 different pills there, not counting OTC stuff.
If you can find a gerentologist who has a moment might be worth getting the list of prescriptions looked at. They tend to pile up and doctors don’t really look at what else someone is on so frequently the list can be cut down
I think her PCP did that a few weeks ago, and rearranged some medications. Like two 50 mgs turned into one 100 mg. But no lie, there were two 100mgs and a 50mg in that compartment, both for one day. Hence that 2 for 1 and 1 for 0 thing. Wife and I were all, “Holy shit! This can’t be good for you!”
Oof
I just took a pill I’m supposed to take first thing in the morning. Can you manage my meds too? I only take two prescription pills, and a vitamin!
I can’t manage my own, evidently; I just realized I haven’t taken mine today.
way late, but ask your pharmacy if you can get the pills in blister packs so that each day and time of day is already measured out. We did that for my MIL as she was doing the same things

This chotch is trying it again. It’s supposed to start Memorial Day weekend, but all accommodations and acts are listed as “COMING SOON!”
Let’s co-opt this and make it a DFO meetup.
There will be cheap last-minute hotel rooms.
Cheese sandwiches for everybody!
I’m all in favor of bourgeoise asshats wasting their monies, but, how does this douchenozzle have any credibility?
Giving con artists multiple chances to fleece us is as American as apple pie.
1.1 million dollars for the “prometheus” experience.
I’ve been taking Mounjaro for the Type 2 diabeetus/fat guy combo since last September. I’ve lost 40 lbs, and my A1C is down to 5.4. I’m still on the lowest dosage, and I want to stay on it as long as Line Go Down, because once you top out on the dosage you’re done losing weight on it.
One thing that reddit mentions is ‘food noise’. That mid-afternoon or late evening urge to grab a snack. It seems to dial back that 3 and 10 PM, “I’m hungry,” sensation.
One thing reddit also mentions is that your stomach will let you know if you eat too much. Which is true. I’m not going to barf if I do that, but I do get a little uncomfortable. You might also get constipated, or diarrhea, or one followed immediately by the other.
At any rate, for me that shit is a miracle drug.
Yes, it’s good and helpful and the current assholes in charge are trying to make it not-covered-by-Medicare/Medicaid which will lead to not-covered-by-insurance, so let’s lose all we can while we can.
I can afford the $25 copay, but not the $1400 retail cost (per month)
My godawful insurance doesn’t even cover an annual A1C measurement, much less expensive medication. But since it’s in shortage compounding pharmacies are allowed to make a version and I pay about $300/month. Seems to be similar to the legit version, and better than being possibly prediabetic for free.
They didn’t seem to take the ramp up doses into account, and then I didn’t take it when I was out of the country for a month because I wouldn’t have been able to refrigerate it, so I basically have about a 3 month supply buffer should it stop being available.
Or sell it to desperate fat people! (i will call if needed)
My doctor does a full blood workup for every physical, because he’s an Internist, and I think it’s a hammer/nail sort of thing for him. Plus he might look harder at me since I look like the Pillsbury Dough Monster.
I had asked him about a year before I got Mounjaro about Ozympic, and he said, “Yeah, I’ll write you a prescription, but it will be $800/month.”
I’ve always had good insurance before, or just random wellness stuff that was subsidized so I kinda thought a decent sized panel of blood tests was the norm. I was shocked when I found out that my ‘virtual physical’ only had lipids and blood sugar on the lab order.
And nobody’s particularly surprised when someone puts a cap in a health insurance executive’s ass.
Aaron Rodgers’ huddle after he’s been allowed to supply the team with “organic gatorade”.
My insurance is crap, but I blame medical providers as much as I do insurance. The amount I pay out of pocket is generally about 10%-40% of what they charge when billing insurance.
I saw this before Facebook took off, applied to health insurance and providers: you’re not the customer, you’re the product.
Or upset.
The no shitting/constantly shitting dichotomy is real
That seems Rockingggg!
Good work my friend.
Probably due to some runny eyeliner.
Google image search wasn’t very helpful with the query of “couch that looks like it has a black eye” but you get the idea of what the cops will encounter when called out to the Naval Observatory for a domestic disturbance tonight.
Got boarding passes, checked in for the flight, got the access rental info and parking barcode for LAX parking.
This shit is going down tomorrow!
Wish I was going. I will try and watch the baseball game to catch you being thrown out after some freakish occurrence.
The shitty thing is you’re gonna lose some muscle no matter what you do. I’ve been doing one of the generic semaglutides, and I’ve been about as careful as it’s possible to be with protein after workouts and keeping the weight loss slow and of the 30lbs I’ve lost about 20% is muscle. Doesn’t seem to affect how much I can lift, though hard to be sure.
During my boy’s Ozempic adventure I was begging him to lift weights/drink protein smoothies because the weight was coming off so fast. It didn’t happen. Not gonna lie-after losing 120 pounds his body is “wonky” but he’s started lifting weights.*
*after listening to the advice of his mom, who was repeating exactly what I said. (I’m that dumbass that wants credit apparently)
Congratulations on the weight loss!! That’s awesome!!
Had a lovely hike with the Dr. Mrs. planned out in Riverside tomorrow followed by a night at a vineyard in Temecula, and I went and fucked it all up by pulling a calf muscle at tennis. We’re still going to the vineyard, of course, but I’m not going to be able to do much other than sit around and drink.
This is clearly some new usage of “fucked it all up” with which I am unfamiliar.
He is contractually obligated to say that by his marriage vows.
I was actually really looking forward to the hike:
You should have seen the shot I did it on. Deciding point in the minigame we were playing, weak approach shot by my opponent, which I blasted past him cross-court with my forehand and as I stepped into it my calf exploded. It was like I’m paying for the shot with week’s worth of limping around and wincing.
I used to suck at tennis; wouldn’t dignify it with the term, “played’. But occasionally the Tennis Marketing God would grant me a good shot like that, just to keep me coming back.
I’ve been to a couple of wineries in Temecula. Ponte and Leoness, both very good. I would give the edge to Leoness, but I liked them both.
Thanks!
As a kid and well into my 20s I had no concept of being full or eating too much. I would just get bored of eating after 3 or 4 plates.
Im paying for that now.
Congrats on the weight loss. That’s a lot of hard work, keep it up
Three years ago if you told me I’d be watching the WNBA draft in 2025 I’d have said, “Wow, the third liver transplant was a roaring success?! Glory be to Danny Dimes!”

Nope, her stepmother is.
last time i get to use this meme, tank commander field marshall paige bueckers zhukov congratulates the tanks of the dallas wings on getting the 1st overall. forget luka, comrades! your mighty tank division shall be rewarded
Hopefully the Mavs and Wings have the same ownership; the LA Sparks will get her for a Subway Cold Cut Combo (regular size, not large).
She just signed a sponsorship deal with someone, (I already forgot who), that will pay her more in one year than she’ll make the entirety for her rookie WNBA contract.
You mean Unrivaled, the 3×3 league?
No, wasn’t that.
It was FleshLight. Working with the Gently Used line of products.
That’s the new landscape for marketable stars in lesser leagues everywhere and I’m not talking solely about women’s sports. TV money doled out to “The Big Sports” dictates how much any team can pay any player.

Congrats on the weight loss!
Doing the chemistry thing as well. Interestingly, it’s had more of an effect on drinking than eating (which is good). But yeah, you get full more quickly.
Do you find that your herbal supplements (such as weed) counteract the meds at all?
Nope, but I have never really been a munchies person, I get more thirsty.
That might be next for me. I inject migraine meds once a month already, as long as I can watch the needle go in (so I don’t flinch) all good in the hood.
It’s an auto-inject pen, so you don’t watch anything, but the needle is tiny, so you barely (calling Deanna F.) feel the prick at all.
