Notes and Comments
There were two big surprises as the two home teams in the Elimination Finals got knocked the fuck out of the competition.
GWS was absolutely dominating the Hawks for the first part of the first period. However, they could not take advantage and score goals. Hawthorn had three opportunities and scored goals on each of them. That turned what should have been a GWS blowout into a game that Hawthorn took control of. GWS did fight back at the end but it was too little too late.
Speaking of late, the Gold Coast Suns were trailing by 6 with a couple of minutes to go in Perth. Somehow, they managed to tie the game and then got a free kick right around the 50 meter line with about 40 seconds to go. It was dead straight and looked to be worth 6 until the replay showed it was tipped at the mark. It was still worth one point and with only 9 seconds left, it proved to be the game winner.
Collingwood turned back the clock and looked like the Collingwood that started the season on a roll. They beat Adelaide in Adelaide and now get a bye into the Preliminary Final. The other bye goes to the Geelong Cats as they beat the Brisbane Lions convincingly at the MCG. Next week, Adelaide hosts Hawthorn while Brisbane hosts Gold Coast in the first ever Finals Q Clash!
The Tipping Pool is down to the last few games. There are five games left and Sharky has a 3 game lead. Remember that we go all the way until the Grand Final, so it’s not over yet!
If you are a member of an AFL club or you got a Watch AFL membership, you should be able to watch every AFL and AFLW game, including replays. Game times vary between Australian afternoon and evening, which actually makes it easier for us in North America to watch as the games can be seeing in the evenings on Pacific Time and early mornings on Eastern time.
If you haven’t become a member of a club or signed up for the Watch AFL app, you can still watch the AFL and AFLW games in the USA on either FS1 or FS2 and in Canada on TSN. Showtimes can be found here on the Australian Football Association of North America website. But I do recommend that you join a club. It’s fun and they send you free shit.
See you next week!
