NFL News:
- Anthemgate update: (Anthemgazi? 9-11them?)
- Roger Goodell told latte foam inhaler Peter King he is “proud” of the League’s response to Donald Trump’s “divisive words”.
- “Aren’t you bothered that the president might be on a crusade against your league?” I asked.“No,” Goodell said. “We live in an imperfect society. A public discourse makes us strong.”
- King also notes that the protests had nearly died out, with only 10 players participating the week prior, so Sunday is more Trump’s fault than anyone’s.
- Josh Norman dropped a “not my president” as one of his responses to a reporter’s question.
- which should absolutely curry favour with the #MAGA types who said that about Obama.
- A Louisiana lawmaker wants the state to withdraw all funding & support the Saints receive for using a state facility like the Superdome.
- since the Saints pay no rent & keep all gameday profits, plus retain the naming rights, it would be a tidy sum.
- The New Orleans Times-Picayune valued the state’s contribution to the Saints $1.5 billion in value at $165 million.
- since the Saints pay no rent & keep all gameday profits, plus retain the naming rights, it would be a tidy sum.
- nfl.com also has player & coach responses to yesterday’s action. Comments are, not surprisingly, turned off.
- including Dreamboat, who went on WEEI and expressed his opinions about supporting his teammates, and how the people booing have the same speech rights as the guys who kneel.
- Count Matt Light as a non-supporter, because kneeling goes against “the Patriot way”.
- Also, consider these stories a reminder never to read the comment sections of online articles

- Roger Goodell told latte foam inhaler Peter King he is “proud” of the League’s response to Donald Trump’s “divisive words”.
- Finally, a Bills stadium employee quit on Twitter yesterday in protest of the kneeling, and became a #MAGA hero in the process. I refuse to post the tweet because it’s just stupid.
- Oh, and a drug addict had something to say about his beloved Steelers:
Remember – until 2009, teams stayed in the locker room during the anthems.
Real NFL News:
- One of my favourite players, Darren Sproles, managed to both break an arm & tear an ACL on the same play yesterday, and is now out for the season.
- The guy was always late-round fantasy dynamite.
- Positive news: Teddy Bridgewater is eligible to return to practice in three weeks.
- Given the Vikings next two games are against the Bears & Lions, if they go 1-1 with the feared Bradford-Keenum connection, the team might go slowly with the rehab, given that a healthy Teddy is still their future.
Finally, as a coda to the weekend anthem protests, John Oliver rightly points out that “when you have lost the moral high ground to Roger Fucking Goodell,” he said, “something is horribly wrong.”
Game preview:
Tonight’s game is expected to be closer than many imagine. The current spread is Cowboys by 3, mostly on the basis of last week’s drubbing by Dallas at the hands of Denver. Plus, many prognosticators are pulling for old man Palmer to finally get a chance to light up a secondary, and for Fitty to be the beneficiary.
Me? I expect Palmer may finally actually get Fitty killed this week, as he tries to lead him over the middle, and either Sean Lee (close to the line) or Orlando Scandrick (deeper in the zone) do what they can to avoid fines for hitting a defenceless player.
Look for Zeke to get a whole bunch of yards, as the Cowboys look to avoid too many deep balls that run the risk of getting picked off, since Arizona actually has a secondary that can keep up with Dez Bryant.
I’m tuning in early to see if freshly pardoned felon Joe Arpaio rambles onto the field during the anthem to arrest players disrespecting the flag.

I want someone to come up with the Venn diagram of where #MAGA & #UpForAnything meet. DON’T SAY “WAL-MART”!

Real astronauts:
:large
Through the lens of nostalgia.
These guys are on the way to a tiki bar in Cocoa Beach to get hammered and nail some cookies. Gus Grissom would have punched honey gif guy in the mouth. Fun Fact: Gordon Cooper was the only Mercury 7 astronaut who didn’t smoke.
“It’s a very sobering feeling to be up in space and realize that one’s safety factor was determined by the lowest bidder on a government contract.”
―Alan Shepard
I always liked that quote.
Actually I’ll be damned the guy in the back seat next to Grissom is Neil Armstrong, and I think this is the only photo I’ve ever seen of him where he is actually smiling. Gordon Cooper was “reassigned” from the the Apollo Program because he didn’t take the training seriously and partied too much. He was a hero so it was done quietly.
Also none of those assholes made a good honey gif.
Those Godless Dog-Killing Commies. OUR MONKEYS CAME BACK ALIVE DAMMIT
(Those Godless Dog Killing Commies is the new name of my fantasy football team if I had one which I don’t)
Atlas E rocket (November 1961): The rocket blew up 35 seconds after launch, killing Goliath, a one-and-a-half-pound squirrel monkey.
Jupiter rockets (1958-9): Gordo, a squirrel monkey, died in December 1958 when the floatation mechanism on his splashdown vehicle malfunctioned. And 14 mice were destroyed when the rocket they were aboard failed its successful launch in September 1959.
OUR CHIMPS CAME BACK ALIVE DAMMIT
Hey, those guys were drunk pilots! No need to get insulting.
Okay, before I sign off to do my fantasy rant, can one of you political science majors (or anyone with a better head on their shoulders than me) answer a political question?
How THE FUCK do people justify complaining about an action, while BLATANTLY OMITTING the sequence of events that got to it? I know cognitive dissonance is sort of incorrectly used as an umbrella term, but surely there’s a deeper meaning than that.
How the fuck do you complain about athletes kneeling for the anthem, but you give no thought to blatant racial police profiling?
how the fuck do you criticize the actions in Charlottesville while blatantly ignoring a trump supporter ran someone down?
How the fuck do you justify the worship for conservative celebrities, but deride their liberal contemporaries?
(a few years old, but it still pisses me off) How the fuck do you complain about Tebow being “blackballed” from the nfl, but don’t acknowledge the fact he’s a terrible player?
These people are like my grandpa who keeps forgetting my ADD, then legitimately thinks less of me for not looking into the armed service. He’s 85 years old, whats their fucking excuse?
just, I don’t know how else to phrase, why the fuck do they think such a stupid, flimsy story is going to make them seem anything other than sincere? fuck I don’t know man.
It’s late but a few thoughts: we don’t teach or value any type of critical thinking as a society. The bigger factor is as The Devil’s Dictionary puts it (a satirical dictionary written by American Civil War soldier, wit, and writer Ambrose Bierce):
IDIOT, n. A member of a large and powerful tribe whose influence in human affairs has always been dominant and controlling. The Idiot’s activity is not confined to any special field of thought or action, but
“pervades and regulates the whole.” He has the last word in everything; his decision is unappealable. He sets the fashions of opinion and taste, dictates the limitations of speech and circumscribes conduct with a dead-line.
The Indian problem was solved insofar as there is a not insignificant percentage of Americans who think they were all killed. Reservations were by design located as far away as possible from white communities, so until Indian casinos arose 30 years ago there was very little chance most Americans would ever encounter an Indian since there are only 3 million of them, and most of them are located where other people aren’t (the desert southwest, Oklahoma, Alaska, and Hawaii).
As for the women and blacks, well, slavery ended. Women got the vote. The world seems fair on its face, so unless you are one of those groups, what reason is there to learn more? There are six white people for every African-American, and their population is relatively concentrated – not purely by accident. So there are millions of Americans who will never meet a black person. Or Asians. Or Hispanics who are non-white or who are white and physically noticeable as being Hispanic. Ignorance breeds ignorance.
tl;dr = Where’d 9/11 come from?
Or, for your Grandpa, Why’d Japan attack Pearl harbor?
Ignorance. Simply by asking this, you are obviously better informed not just about current affairs but about the world at large than easily 75% of the population. So you presumably have a grasp on these issues more than at a superficial level. Most people don’t. Most people don’t consume the news, and the news they consume is paper-thin. People can shit on it all they want, but most Americans get their news from the big three networks. The total viewership of all cable news is about 5% of the population on a good day.
Subsequent to that, how people stay informed comes from a very limited number of people, and because of social dynamics, tends to be shaped directly or indirectly by the loudest asshole at the water cooler because no one is going to seriously argue about the news at work or with their families. They just suck it up, internalize it, and their own biases and prejudices either convince them to listen to Bob, the 60 year old middle manager who listens to Limbaugh every day, or just think he’s an asshole and essentially just accept and vote for the opposite of whatever Rush has him bitching about on any day. This becomes even worse on social media like Facebook, which is a hellscape bubble of self-reinforcing ego-stroking bullshit.
And framing both of those two things are social and community norms, which mainly comes up with regard to the question about your grandfather. For his generation, military service was expected and failure to do so was pretty thoroughly scorned if not outright antagonized. All your other scenarios are shaped by people opining while having low or no information about whatever they’re talking about. People know Tebow won those two playoff games and was hot shit in college and then *poof* vanished. So either he was a shitty pro football player, or he’s being punished for his brand being all about being a preening, self-aggrandizing, conservative shithead. If you know as little as most people do about football, and then you hear someone claim that he’s being persecuted, then there’s no reason to question this claim – it seems reasonable given all the information you have. It’s not true, but it doesn’t have to be true. It just has to be enough information to conform to and confirm your expectations. And thus, “Tebow was blackballed” becomes a meme in spite of being objectively false.
This was a waste of time.
So Canadia’s cartoon network plays reruns of Rick and Morty, which is how I got into it. What season are they actually on?
JJ: Cleanup on aisle me!
I see corporate media has white washed Koepernicks message and has diversified it to mean whatever the fuck they want, to make the BLM message made redundant. Totally not intentional, I’m sure
It’s all about Trump. Everything becomes all about Trump, because focusing on his dumb ass … Fuck it. I’m out.
Which is sad because Koep started this under Obama, who, eloquently said the same thing as Agent Orange
I’ll leave my opinion of the whole kneeling thing for another time. Until then, I’m out too.
You’re a Cowboys fan. I can only assume you’re pro kneeling with how much football prognosticators used to get on their knees to suck Romo’s cock.
BOOM!
I keep telling my GF I’m in favor of all sorts of kneeling, but nothing’s changing at home
I forgot I already replied to this.
Not that I’m surprised that he cheats, but, how ironclad must Jerral’s prenupt be with Mrs. Jones still married to Tex after 50 years?
Jimmy looks a bit uncomfortable there, to say the least.
Well, yeah. He’s in the clutches of a self-admitted mad man.
I’m anxious for his replacement, to say the least.
WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!1!!!1!
I’m oddly upset at the lack of Cowboy hate tonight. I love that shit you guys, win or lose!
It’s not the same without Romo
You still have me…and Dakashima?!?!
Here you go, buddy.
Thank you!
Why hate a team that’s not even relevant? It’s like me expecting the Dolphins get hate if they were ever given a primetime spot.
Cowboys WIN
Carson Palmer is not….good.
Arizona was very stupid in that drive. Very stupid.
Hard to play smart football when they’re playing bad football.
Gruden’s point about kicking the FG is solid except for the fact that Phil Dawson has been ass lately.
Look down at me and you see a fool,
Look up at me and you see a god,
Look straight at me and you see yourself.
– Uncle Charlie
3-man jailbreak blitz, huh Gruden?
Dammit Larry why are you so damned good?
Let Patrick Peterson do his thing… falls down
Why punt? Dallas D is ass but ok!
I’m back from the bar. Isnt it time for Arizona to…
/puts on sunglasses
…retire?
YEEEEEEAAAAHH
Emmet Smiff used to play for the Cardinals, ppl forget that.
I saw him score one of his last rushing TDs at Sun Devil Stadium. It was impressive.
Zeke has had so many distractions to deal with. F.U. Hooters lackey.
Serious question, and it has nothing to do with any particular team or player.
When the fuck did the NFL decide they had the right to determine the legal guilt or innocent of an individual outside of the judicial system?
Some point between Rog replacing Tagliabue and the last CBA
It’s the ol’ PR Pendulum. Soon as they punish enough people to make people feel bad for beating their girlfriends, they’ll go back to suspending murderers for 8 games.
It’s not a criminal conviction so the league can do whatever they want within the bounds of its agreement with the players. So pretty much whatever they want, because the NFLPA is the worst union ever.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
She looks a little like Candle Boxx in that gif.
No, I don’t know who that is.
All I know is I would leave her disappointed and unfulfilled, of this I’m certain.
She’s great.
WTG Zeke.
Now, 2 minute drill foar AZ, with at least 2 completions to numbereleven plz. Just in case.
GET THAT ZEKE! FUCK THEM BIRDS!
Really good games this weekend.
The NFL should make it a habit to tell Trump to go fuck himself every weekend.
How the fuck is that even a debate…..
Oh right… cowboys..
Why is everyone so lethargic? I know Dallas is leading, but this is far from over.
It’s probably the alcohol.
am buzzed
Me too, slightly.
Seriously?
Well, it’s making me lethargic.
Ok, keep killing clock.
Greg Hardy isn’t on the team anymo…Oh. I thought you said “Keep killing with your Glock”
Down by contact. Sorry.
