  • Borrowing ESPN’s lede: George Taliaferro, who in 1949 became the first African-American player to be drafted by an NFL team, died Monday night at age 91.
    • He was drafted in the 13th round of the 1949 draft by the Bears, but instead chose to play for the LA Dons of the AAFC.
      • Because that league folded after the 1949 season, Taliaferro joined the NFL in 1950.

Kavanaugh wasn’t involved, but here’s the thing: In North Dakota, you can no longer register to vote with a PO Box. Native Americans came out against the new law, because USPS doesn’t deliver to reservations, so many don’t have actual street addresses; they use PO Boxes. The law was passed after the current dem senator won her last election by a slim margin with strong Native support. It’s as transparent as it is shitty and it was upheld.

Not even. I got a PO Box in LA while I was still living in CO. I don’t remember even needing to give them a “home address”. My registration to vote was all separate and done where I’m actually domiciled but I don’t live on a reservation. Yet.

Bill Clinton is at best an uncontrollable sex maniac whose need to get off has destroyed the lives of many women, and caused undue harm to the women in his life. He is at worst probably a rapist.

Hillary Clinton is at best a woman who let her political ambitions wipe out the first half of her career wherein she was best known as a champion for child welfare as she willingly dived into every shitty warhawk tendency the US SoS position traditionally demands to build a resume befitting of a President. She is at worst a cold, calculating political robot who easily moved past endless sexual harassment, assault, and outright rape accusations against her husband, then smashed the fuck out of that drone strike button on her death march to the White House.

The current President is at least as bad as Bill in that regard. The current first lady sits idly by and watches her husband set in motion some of the most harmful and inhuman immigration policies in modern US history despite the fact that she lived in the country on an expired visa and would have been booted out of the country instantly according to the Administration’s standards.

They’re at least as bad as the Clintons with literally none of the upside.

It’s a practice in futility, though, because you can do this all day with politicians up and down the ballots and realize that there are very few good people who actively seek power, and even the ones who actually are good will ultimately disappoint you (Looking at you, 44).

I can write in Optimus Prime for Senator and Adam, Prince of Eternia for Representative and will have the same impact as voting for Sherrod Brown or that woman running against Brad Wenstrup. So, in addition to the Clintons aren’t on the ballot/formulating policy and are therefore irrelevant to your vote, there are a couple of things that should push you over the edge. Whether or not you think Dems have a chance in your district, they’re the only party trying to actually govern as opposed to win for the sake of winning no matter the damage to the country. You could listen to arguments from longtime Republicans who believe that the party that has welcomed and emboldened neo-nazis and pizzagate trolls needs to be trounced at the polls in order for a new center right party to emerge from its ashes (eg https://www.theatlantic.com/amp/article/572419/ or https://twitter.com/Zathras3/status/1049500707089522688?s=19) or you could listen to former non-partisans who objectively decided long ago that the GOP was beyond the pale (https://twitter.com/joshtpm/status/1049312819391471617?s=19) or you could just decide that it’s important to not just say ok when the party in power decides to delegitamize its opposition as “less than.” I understand not being comfortable with 100% of the Democratic party’s platform, but it’s at least trying to help people, even when it doesn’t get it right. Republicans have crossed that Rubicon a long time ago.
