So, last week was Mexican Independence Day. In previous years, this would mean tons of people going to bars in Los Angeles and a lot of people taking off on vacation to visit family in México and partake in festivities there.
Obviously, that didn’t happen this year.
Well, let me rephrase that. It didn’t happen to the extent that it does in most years. Even in México, the celebrations were muted as the large gathering for El Grito in El DF was cancelled. All celebrations were virtual, which means people just got drunk at home.
In honor of Mexican Independence Day, my original plan was to have hot models wearing something México-related. However, I went down a Mexican meme rabbithole and found a bunch of stuff too good not to share.
Treat this as your annual Spanish lesson and a chance to Better Know A Mexican.
I’ll also be continuing to showcase awesome songs like before. In keeping with the theme, I’ll be showcasing a Mexican band that has been called the Mexican Police.
As for last night’s game, that last minute drive was YUUGE for gamblers everywhere. In the DFO spread picking pool, the Browns were favoured by 5.5 points. Burrow’s last minute TD and conversion (apparently meaningless since the onside kick failed) made the final margin 5 points and gave a win to Cincinnati plus the points bettors.
Of course, that group included me, so I was happy. I imagine a similar thing occurred in Vegas, although I don’t know what the final line was on the game.
Ok, enough gambling talk, let’s get right to it. Enjoy:

And now, the next episode of our new feature!
As I mentioned before, I’ve decided that I must take up the mantle that tWBS ran with and help to make this world a better place. I will do this in the one way he couldn’t: By introducing you to good music!
My aim each week has been to showcase a tune or band from the 80s (the best decade EVAR!) that not many people know about or have heard of. In this way, hopefully these artists will find new audiences and the old audiences can reminisce about what they were doing in the 80s.
Tonight, we are deviating a bit from the 80s part as this band was active and popular in the 90s and beyond. You could say, however, that the band was heavily influenced by 80s music. Their sound has been described as a mix of tropical, reggae, and pop. Very much like The Police.
The band, of course, is Maná.
The band was formed in Guadalajara and is considered the most successful Spanish rock band of all time. Their 1992 album, ¿Dónde jugarán los niños? became the best-selling Spanish rock album of all time. That album is like the Bob Marley “Legend” album in that it contained hit after hit.
Perhaps their most famous song is “Oye mi amor”:
Another big hit from that album was “Cómo te Deseo”:
Watching that video, I’m sure you understand why I like this band. Another great song from that album was “De Pies A Cabeza”:
Probably the most rock-like song on the album was “Me Vale”:
Did I mention that latinas absolutely adored Maná and this song got many a young man laid in the 90s?:
While the follow-up album to ¿Dónde Jugarán Los Niños?, Cuando los Ángeles Lloran, was not as big a hit, the album after that brought about more hits and more memorable songs. One of my favourites is “Clavado en un Bar”:
Another romantic song that the girls loved was “En El Muelle De San Blás”:
I bet you that you have heard this song on the TV at the start of a certain show:
At this point, I could post a bunch more songs, but I invite everyone to check them out. There are a lot of good songs that they created. I’ll end this with probably the best song ever written about being a Sancho: “Labios Compartidos”:

That’s all for this week, folks! Be good to each other and try to stay the fuck away from stupid people. That’s not COVID-19 advice, that’s just general good sense. See you next week!
A lot of matching shoes going on there.
Conversely…
It’ an old joke, but….
Get out the glow sticks!

Melbourne-Essendon on ESPN2!
That’s some serious truth right there.
Justice Ginsburg has died and with it comes a great responsibility: finding another justice on whom I can deep fake Larry King’s face
Fuck RBG. She should have retired years ago.
Exactly
Not the best photo but it wouldn’t be a fiesta without her.
Be a real shame if someone with covid* stood** next to Mitch without a mask*** on…

Sure would
Seeing a lot of fear-mongering lately about Dems wanting to make Puerto Rico a state. It’s pretty impressive how the same people who don’t know Puerto Ricans are Americans also think a non-American entity could magically become a state.
My god, the things I would do that would disappoint that woman.
I’m watching a futbol game in Mexico. I’m watching it in Spanish. I don’t speak Spanish.
I think that this is better than all English broadcasts in all sports. I may understand very little but due to the intonation of their voices, I have a good idea on what is going on without watching intently.
Okay. Tough choices here. Ahhhh, I’ll marry The Cynic, I’ll kill The Rat and I’ll fuck The Fist. There. Done. I think I did well!
Well, you’ve already done two, so this should be a breeze.
Goal Blue Cruise!
Absolutely True Story-the first time I was introduced to Talking Heads I was watching porn on video cassette. We were listening to Fear of Music and we were stoned and this tune came on.

G1 Climax in 5 hours, so it’s time once again to lean on Toru Yano as my emotional support crutch. Though I wonder if New Japan is still doing the thing where the fans are allowed to be there, but not allowed to shout or make noise with their mouths.
Scotchy, I enjoyed these guys in the 90’s as well.

Loved this entire album but this tune about suicide really kicks ass!

Geez! First minute goal from Mazatlan!
Cartels are involved. I am sure of it. Blue Cruise will come right.
A Canuck band that should have been so much bigger

I have done drugs with them multiple times in Banff. They are the nicest guys in the world. THE LOUDEST BAND IN CANADA was their moniker.
THEY WERE SO FUCKING GOOD!
Puebla wins!!
Hell yeah they did. I bet on them, and Blue Cruise right now!

This is how the WuFlu spreads.
GWS gets blown out, RBG dies, my hemmorhoids flare up–this is not a good start to the jewish new year

I really, really, really like that tune. Is it right up there with 10,000 Maniacs cover of ‘More Than This’? I ask the question only because I want to post the tune.

I mean, who sings about child abuse? No coded language, just right up front.
Am pretty sure Jim Jordan was humming songs his whole time at Ohio State
This is Van at Montreux way back when. Come for the lazy intro, the pianist wearing a baseball shirt and the sax dude smoking a cig while waiting for Mr. Morrison to get things going.

My computer died so you fuckers get NOTHING
This is the worst news I’ve heard today.
I hope this stupid notorious RBG shit is buried with her.
Wait until you hear about “Ruthkanda…”
The Revolutions podcast ninth season is on Mexico and it’s wild. It’s also a great podcast.
Technically, this is the second one. We had one 100 years earlier.
1810- Independence from Spain
1910- Essentially Civil War
I’m throwing in the towel. I mean, these people all say god works through them and they’ve gotten everything they possibly could — and they have a closer relationship to him than I do. Maybe I’m the ignorant asshole who’s wrong. I mean, it’s hard to argue with results.
Welcome to the clubhouse. Now let’s drown ourselves in booze.

Sorry, but the English version is crap. German or nothing!
A -1 just because it’s in English.

WHOOHOO!!
The original German version of 99 Luftballons requires quite a lot more Kraftwerk than the English translation.
“I mean, You Can’t Touch This 80’s video even if you Touch Yourself!”
-Pop-Up Video
Can’t have a karaoke without Maná. “Clavado en un bar” is the Stairway to Heaven of slurred covers.
Yes!
Supreme Court Justice Grover Norquist
As an admittedly naive Canadian. Knowing McConnell, my best hope is that it is this Grover.
Alas, this is the Grover we’ll get.
DESPEINAR LA COTORRA ??????

? ?????????
I knew you, most of all, would love these.
Is there an urban dictionary for translations or have I stumbled on a billion dollar idea?
