Hello there fellow DFO’er.  Hope your well today.  And thanks for coming back to see last weeks comments of the week as decided by my brain.  There’s no reason as to why some comments make it and others don’t.  

For the US and UK and wherever ever else had yesterday off, happy Monday.  For the rest of us, it’s Tuesday.  And holy crap, it’s June.  Not sure where May went.

Gonna change it up today and talk about lacrosse.  Haha,  you knew it was coming, it was just a matter of when I started talking about it again.  We had a few pools last year, one for the MLL and another for the PLL.  The MLL and PLL have “merged” over the winter, aka PLL bought out the MLL, so there is only one league now.  Training camps are this week with, like, real games, with fans, starting this weekend.  I’m way too lazy to write up previews and predictions this year.  So, the big things this year are that there is now one more team, the Cannons, but a tonne of players from the MLL that didn’t get added to a team just sitting at home, so the talent on these teams is crazy.  The other thing is that there are a big bunch of Canadian people that are not able to travel due to the whole pandemic thing, so will not be on rosters to start the season.  It remains to be seen if some of these players can travel later in the year as things start to open back up.  Also a reminder that these teams do not have home cities, this leagUe uses the travel model were all games are played in a given city that week, only to move somewhere else the next week.  Different but it seems to be working for them.

There’s also a chance to win $1,000,000 if you pick the perfect bracket.  It’s only 43 games, so the odds in that are, like, carries the one, 1 in a billionty or so.  There is a chance to win other stuff too, but didn’t read into what that entails yet.

If interested, you can watch all the games in the US via the Peacock app thingy.  The rest of us need to use NBC Sports Gold as the Peacock thing is geo-locked.  For me, it’s $50 CDN for all the games, so about a buck a game.

I think I’ve mentioned this before but-I live a whole 45 seconds away (walking distance) from an outside basketball court that I spent countless hours playing at as a kid. It’s been there for about 60(?) years.

/Early last week the town pulled all of the basket stanchions (six of them) out of the ground.

Me: “Son Of A Bitch! How could the town do this? This is-by far-the most popular place for kids to get together to play pickup ball. And has been for multiple decades. This is a travesty.”

/Driving by today I saw that the old metal backboards and stanchions were replaced with glass backboards

Pitched a tent last night, cooked on the grill, blasted the chimenea, and fed the kid some s’mores. Whole “intro to backyard camping” thing was surprisingly successful (we did sleep inside— I’m not risking my sleep on account of trying to get a two year old to lay outside all night) so I’m happy with that. Kid has been going all afternoon now — pool, grocery store, helping us cook (wife is showing me how to make her pizza from scratch. Little is known about my pie other than, it will suck.) I’ve got some wings going and I’m going to use Frank’s for them. I have never had Frank’s so I am a excited to see what the fuss is about.

All in all, it’s a pretty good Memorial Day weekend so far. As I’ve always said, I prefer being a Veteran’s Day object over a Memorial Day one.
