This week, we have a “Theme By Request”.
See? I listen. Granted, I don’t always respond. And almost never particularly quickly. Sorry, I’m old.
But this week I wanted to get this one up quickly (phrasing) for our beloved Beerguyrob so he doesn’t forget us while he’s on sabbatical for the next coupla weeks. Because if he doesn’t come back then that’s just more work for the rest of us. (Errrrrr….I mean we’re really gonna miss him and he is an invaluable asset, of course)
A one week turnaround time might even be a personal best for me on such requests, but I don’t know for sure. Like I said, I’m old.
So what was his request that he probably thinks I’ve already forgotten about? Just a little thing called The Women of Marvel.
That’s Brie Larson up there in that banner image, btw. She’s been cast to play Captain Marvel. Also, she kinda purtty…
Later, you’ll be seeing more of her maybe.
And I’d be remiss if I didn’t include this…
Does he know she’s the Black Widow? Should he be bothered by this information?
Meh, what a way to go, right?
Also…. You’re welcome, Rob.
Now go clean yourself up. We’re only just getting started.

Marvel-ous Sports
NFL
Seattle wore their best duds last night to the Valley of the Sun. Causing everyone there (and everywhere else) to vomit. No worries tho, as the vomit was indistinguishable from the uni color. Yeeesh.
Obviously, Birdcano was instantly blinded and could not respond properly until it was too late. Seahawks hang on, get the 22-16 road win.
NHL
From my own homer fan (Capitals) standpoint, the early season has not been fun (Don’t look so smug, Pens…you ain’t doing so great either). From a detached and unbiased hockey fan point of view however, this season is becoming somewhat interesting. I’m surprisingly happy that baseball is over for the time-being and I can now watch a bit moar hockey.
NBA
If the playoffs started today, neither CLE, LAC, LAL nor OKC would be in them. If I gave a crap about the NBA this would make me happy.
NCAA Football
Tonight:
- Temple @ Cincy – 7:00pmEST – TV: ESPN2
- BYU @ UNLV – 10:30pmEST – TV: ESPN2
- (9)Washington @ Stanford – 10:30pmEST – TV: FS1
NCAA Basketball
It’s back more or less starting tonight. Nobody will know how good anyone really is for a month or so, as the Power 5 teams load up on creampuffs, with a few good games sprinkled in here and there for ratings. But the usual suspects are at the top of the heap rankings wise. Thank goodness the NCAA didn’t do anything to upset the apple cart. And at least Adidas tried to make things interesting…
North Carolina getting off without any NCAA sanctions feels like a slow news day comparatively.
Of course it does to you, asswipe. That’s exactly what they were counting on, too. And simpleton “reporters” like you with low IQ’s and even shorter attention spans is why they got away with it. So why don’t you hustle on over to twitter and find your next scoop there, Edwin R. Murrow.

The Women of Marvel
So, what are the criteria? Simple. If they’ve appeared in a Marvel film, they’re eligible, regardless of character played (ie they don’t necessarily have to have been cast as a SuperHero).
(I will not be going into the X-Men universe here, we might do that at a later time. DC too.)
For example, this is Kat Dennings. She was in one of the Thor movies I think I probably didn’t see.
But she has a place here, regardless of superpowers (which if she had one, it would be diverting the bloodflow in my…..)
OK!!!!!! MOVING ALONG!!!!!
But you get the gist, yes? OK, let’s do this.
(also, some of our lovelies will be represented more than once)
Enjoy….
Champagne? Why not, Darling?

Something Funny(?)
Meanwhile, at NASA….
….the early tests on the new propulsion systems seem encouraging.

Let’s Drink Some Stuff
But apparently in the new one, Thor: FraggleRok (yet another Thor movie I likely won’t see even when it’s free), Mjolnir gets all broken n junk. Hopefully that means they’ll stop making those horrible movies. But I know it doesn’t mean that.
Meh.
/opens beer(s)
Have a great weekend, everyone.
Love ya’s

Do you have a “request” or an idea for a future TGISF theme? Drop me a line…
–
[…] yes, during last week’s TGISF, The Women of Marvel , I used this photo of Kat Dennings while illustrating the criteria of who was […]
Hey look a hookah!
Whoa, what video game is this?
Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge?

Weekday Internet Dad made sure everything was better before we got to go hang out with cool, but irresponsible and unreliable Rod Belding. Thanks, weekday Internet Dad. You’re the best.
PS. tWBS, as a Sexy Friday suggestion, vintage ladies. And not our usual Debbie and Lynda era. I’m thinking Hedy (not Hedly) Lamar, Garbo, Stanwyck. Something like that.
Will also, email you about it.
Like bomber nose art?
…. So I don’t know why we’re talking video games tonight, but this is one of my earliest game memeories, not lying in the slightest, I think this is the only NES game that my parents got me, instead of my brothers, who naturally had mario, duck hunt, and zelda:

I just want to take a second and say how much I love you folks and I’m so glad you stayed around for dessert.
Don’t hate me if I fucked up the cobbler.
Fuck yeahDFOI!
Is that how hashtags work?
#NailedIt
There was dessert? Damnit!
Oh, the hours wasted on this one…

Say what you will about NHL ’94, but ’95 had drop passing and one timers
PAVEL!
Yegads, I’m at the end of group two and it’s chaos before boarding has even started. Wishing I had made plat already and could skip ahead of half these guys!
Airports are where everyone’s awful side comes out. Maybe that’s why its socially acceptable to drink at 9am at an airport
Throw cheese cubes on the ground to distract them, then run past and onto the plane really really fast.
So I finally saw Interstellar. It was pretty good until they ran out of physics to theorize about and started just plain fucking around.
This was my first videogame. Back when they came with the console:
Fun fact: I only beat this game in college using an emulator so I could at least save my progress then.
My 4th grade bff and I played loads of bubble bobbles, but I don’t think we ever beat it. I almost beat it on an emulator in college, but the thing about bubble bobble, you need to have two players alive to get the good ending, so I never managed that, as beating the bad guy and trying to revive P2 simultaneously was hard
Less fun fact: Sonic is my favorite character being that we’re the same age. Okay, he’s like 4 1/2 months older than me, close enough.
So he gets the top bunk?
Do you also hoard rings?
A cat and a hat!
So, I started team selection today. Most of the stuff I could work on seems pretty neat, I’m tempted to pick based on how fun the managers are. Thoughts? Suggestions?
Do you play professional dodge ball?
So, random aside, at my elementary school we didn’t play standard dodgeball, we played a variant called Greek dodgeball. No idea what was supposed to be Greek about it.
Anyone else remember this particular hell?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XS7AvmHAk6o
Oh… THAT fucking game…
The games I was given as a child were legitimate evidence of child abuse
I never had a NES, but from history, there were loads of awful games for it. Makes sense, they were still figuring out how games worked and what was fun and what was super lame
I only know it from Angry Video game nerd, but if its as bad as it looks……. broken controller city
Once I get my Dreamcast hooked back up, I should totally start up a game of Seaman
What about Blue Stinger?
I started replaying Shenmue, in anticipation of 3. I dropped it for a bit cause I forgot where the second bar that sailors hang out at is, but I should go back. There are so many capsule tos I need to buy!
Also gotta get my virtual pachinko fix in 2
The game that made RE confident in its voice actors
Dreamcast will always be in my heart for its out-of-the-box piratibility
I still have my boot disc for playing japan region games, and I still use it.
So…this low carb diet thing. Contemplating giving it a try, since Facebook cafes would make it pretty easy/tasty. But important question, how much of a carb is whiskey?
0 grams.
Tell me more about this whiskey based diet
Tktk mkt mk vkt!
No food, just whiskey. You’ll lost 10 lbs in a month guaranteed!
Those are British pounds, right?
Kilos, so yes.
The things I would like to do to Natalie Portman….would not last that long
So, in Mario, was there a whole stream of decoy castles with decoy princesses, or were all the princesses you rescued before the final level just princesses you didn’t intend to rescue initially? I’ve never been quite clear on that
They just wanted to be friends.
Have I mentioned how much the night shift blows goats? Because it blows goats.
Are these nocturnal goats, or are they asleep when you blow them?
Also, rigor mortis or alive?

Should I eat some cheese cubes?
Imma eat some cheese cubes
Well then why’d you even ask if you didn’t want our opinions?
Sheesh.
My internal monolog has naught but scorn for the puny opinions of others! 😀 😀
Fine then. I’ll just keep quiet about my opinion of holding out until you can find cheese dodecahedrons.
I can nibble the cubes into dodecahedrons. Or they can be a brooch, or a hat, or a pterodactyl!
Damn you and your Airplane references. Now I’m not mad at you anymore.
It snowed today in Chicago. I had to dig out some winter stuff. Luckily I’m not unpacked enough for that stuff to be in deep storage yet
Aw yeah. Another hopping Friday night spent with exclusively single player video games and snarky Twitter replies. God help me get through this bye week.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sihK5Rzv8iw
Single player video games are the best video games
You’re goddamned right.

So torn between my Steam backlog and retro nostalgia
That fucking game…
Oh, on the radio today I was flipping stations and caught a bit where they were talking about draft order if both the Niners and the Browns go winless
Hopefully it’s a battle to the death, where the winning team is then immediately executed.
There are quite a few Niners fans around, and I had a moment the other day where I was thinking ‘wow, they’re awful, how do they have fans, even here?’ And then I remembered the last couple decades of DC football and felt SUPER hypocritical
It was warm enough that I was surfing Monday and Tuesday.
Tonight the low is supposed to be in the mid 20s.
Weird week.
Damn Chinese with their global warming conspiracies.
So Dok, how would you like us to send you our nudes? I assume this was your idea.
Are you talking about the anti-revenge porn experiment, or did I totally miss something?
That’s the one.
I hope it works out well, revenge porn purveyors are total assholes, and that’s probably unfair to assholes
Ah, those were the days.
The one guy with a shirt has a DC 101 shirt!
That’s Heavy Metal Parking Lot from Capital Centre in Maryland in 1982. You should watch that short documentary on YouTube right now. I knew that parking lot very well back then and these people are for real.
ZEBRA MAN!
It was ’86
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whZuz5Dwtw8
Oh, I read something about that. Someone did a where are they now type thing
The center dude with the beer could have been me in HS, except I was taller and in Colorado.
Corey, Corey, Corey, and… Keifer?
Canada stalls on a trade pact.
Speaking of masturbating, I think I’ll head off to bed. Niters all.
Is starching you anus going to be the next big trend?
That would be eating a lot of bread and potatoes.
I suppose if you’re in a bind. Or need one.
Sing it sister! Been there.
Happens to all the time.
So, what is this ‘singles day’ thing, and why is it in November? Does is have anything to do with Kraft singles? Grilled cheese tie in perhaps?
Not surprising it falls on the masturbation recognition month.
See, I have no idea if you’re joking or if that’s a real thing
It probably isn’t, but it should be!
This sounds like a job for the Internet!
Masturbation Month cums in May.
Or June.
I would assume that like sweetest day, grandparents day, and easter it is just another product of the greeting card industrial complex.
On the rare occasions I buy a card for someone, I always make sure it’s unrelated to the actual occasion I’m buying the card for. It’s never the wrong time to wish someone a happy bar mitzvah!
I always get my relatives cards that are in Spanish (not difficult to find here in South Texas) or that feature minorities as the photographic models.
Friday nights in Texas during the Fall? 20 minutes of the half-hour evening news are devoted to high school football.
It weirds me out how big some texas hs stadiums are
You are not incorrect:
Duke and Wake Forest are envious of this.
Happy Veterans’ Day, to the DFO service people.
Married to one, recently retired. She was an Army nurse during Desert Storm, rarely talks about it.
Amazing part is that she’s seen shit that would make most of us curl up into a ball and cry in the corner, but still loses it when she sees a roach in the bathtub.
That’s 100 percent reasonable. Of the many reasons I don’t want to end up in Thai prison, having to catch and eat roaches in order to get adequate protein is really, really high on my list
True. I have a friend who has similar stories concerning camels in parts of the Middle East. I won’t go into details, but the need for protein can make people desperate.
BUT NOT THE DEAD ONES. That’s what Memorial Day is for.
…
Eh Ok I’ll make an exception, this time.
I’m enjoying the Bay area so far, I don’t even have to deal with traffic ever since I’m a morning person and no one here does anything until about ten am. Is that a California thing or a tech thing?
10 am is the asscrack of dawn in IT
There was a serious debate in my friend’s group over whether 10:30 was too early for a team meeting
It is
No team meetings before lunch, the 11th commandment.
I actually also prefer afternoon meetings, since I’m not productive after lunch so I might as well sit around and talk about stuff
You’ll be a manager by Spring.
Prolly a hangover thing.
Same in the Seattle area. So lazy tech bros.
I noticed a similar thing about Atlanta once. Worst traffic in the country? Ok, I’ll just get up 20 minutes early, and save 10 minutes each way in commute. I guess some people just have hard and fast start times.
Flex time is where it’s at. I would have issues with solid start/end times
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=8&v=woXIItXQcjY
Ok, that’s incredibly amusing
Relevant.
