I used to do consulting work at the Air Force Academy. In the famous chapel building the downstairs is the catholic chapel. In what I believe is a prayer room, there is a mural of Mary standing on the earth with bombers flying around the globe.

Tangential: My agency (Air Force Civil Engineer Center) is currently doing a source selection for a $65M+ renovation of that chapel. We’ve been working the design for over 3 years. One of the big sticking points is a sprinkler system to bring it up to federal code, which is something that really doesn’t fit in with the original architectural design. Not sure how they got that sorted out, as I was thankfully not chosen to be part of the source selection team. It’s going to take a year to make the award once we finally get the bids.
In spite of all that I actually really enjoyed working for CE division, then they privatized the engineering for facilities and fucked everything up.
The guy they have up there right now is pretty much a prima donna. The AFCEC project manager is an AFA graduate/ringknocker, so it’s appropriate for her to have the project. I disqualified myself from being assigned to the project when I professed my atheism, which worked out just like I wanted. I’d rather renovate a dorm at Minot or Thule than fuck with that AFA Chapel project.
