Word Count Filler Time
While we’re in the midst of the Triple Crown schedule, let’s look at towards the back of the field for a little story. Except this one happened in Japan.
The horse’s name is Hara Urara (“GlorioUs Spring”), a bay mare. Foaled in February 1996, she first raced in November 1998 and finished last of the 5 horses racing.
Her future would not get better.
By the time she was an 8 year old in 2003, she was still winless. A struggling race track wanted some publicity and noticed Hara Urara was racing, winless, and only a few loses from 100. So they went to the local press for some attention, and eventually the national press picked it up. This was great news for the race track. Average attendance jumped from 1,600 to 5,000 for Hara Urara’s 100th race; another loss taking her to 0-100 for her career. For her 106th race, Japan’s top jockey rode her in front of 13,000 fans to another loss.
Now, her future did get better because she was the most famous race horse in Japan which kept her out of the slaughterhouse and glue factory. The track further prospered because it was considered good luck to bet on Hara Urara; in that 106th race ¥121,751,200 was wagered on her to win. Everyone knew they would lose, but having her name on a betting ticket was considered good luck.
Hara Urara retired to a farm in Hokkaido in 2004 with a final racing record of 0-113. She is now a celebrity and living out her life in comfort.

Books that I reread for entertainment.
Brick nailed my first one. I’ve read Catch 22 probably 5 times. I’ve also read the entire Vonnegut selection 5 times completely.
But Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange has been read thoroughly.
First 1 and 1/2 times I had to look to the glossary to figure out what the fuck they’re saying.
After that?

I love Memorial Day Sunday. Sunup to sundown racing.
1. F1: Monaco. The crown jewel of the schedule.
2. Indy: Indy 500. The only relevant and important racy of the Indy season. For all the milk.
3. NASCAR: Coca-Cola 600. Longest race of the year at the fastest 1.5 mile ovals.
Also, this year a brave driver (Kyle Larson) is attempting the double where he’s doing both the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. His attempt last year was thwarted by weather. The only driver to complete it was Tony Stewart.
I like Larson. I hope he does well. Didn’t Kurt Busch attempt it?

I’m not looking for a pity party; I know she’s right. I’m not mad, angry, or upset with anyone but meself. I hate my compulsiveness, one of the main sources of all my biggest, deepest flaws. I have a very difficult time telling the devil on shoulder to piss off. I know that’s a big problem, the one I need to focus on the most.
Folks, I really am in love with her. I care deeply about my kids. Tomorrow is Lil’ WCS’s birthday, so I hope yinz all brought presents and cake, by the way. They are my inspiration, but I need to start acting like it more. What I mean is, I never have any money to spare. Like, ever. It’s because I’m already in enough debt, but I can’t control my spending sometimes. “Fool and his money,” and what not.
I love you folks. I can’t articulate how I feel to most of people in my life. My parents have never understood me, my friends all have so many of their own issues I don’t want to add to it, and the only person I can talk to is meself and the cat. Fwiw, Russian novels can sometimes be used as a cheap alternative to therapy. There are plenty of penniless Russian aristocrats in there who could provide some cautionary tales about spending, plus the books are really long and it takes forever just to figure out all the charachters’ names so you also won’t have time to buy anything
