Saturday Night Open Thread – The June Gloom Edition

It has been remarkably cold and wet in Southern California this year. We started with Atmospheric Rivers in January that bled into February and even into March. Then we stopped getting Rivers and just got good ole regular April Showers. Those eventually relented and we thought the sun would finally come out in May.

They called it Gray May or May Gray, whichever way you want to play it. Temperatures in the 60 and gray and gloomy. Just like Seattle in the Summer.

I shouldn’t say that. I actually have been to Seattle and it’s not gray and rainy all the time. It’s actually quite beautiful up there.

We are now in the month of June and that, traditionally, equals June Gloom, the phenomenon where the marine layer drifts inland in the morning and you get foggy cold weather until it burns off around noon. You get sunshine for a few hours and then the marine layer comes back like a comfy blanket, enveloping the Southland in its not-so-warm embrace.

To tell you the truth, I like June Gloom. Probably for the same reason I like Goth music and Goth chicks. There is nothing like thinking everything sucks for you to realize that it doesn’t and there is beauty to be found in the most depressing things.

Whoa, that was deep. And here I thought I was typing this as an excuse to post pictures of sexy goth chicks.

In reality, it’s my excuse to beg Litre_cola to tell us all about the concert he attended last night in Vancouver: The Cure, live in concert for what I imagined must have been at least 2 1/2 hours.

The stereotypical Southern California June Gloom Wear outfit is a sweatshirt with shorts or swimsuit bottoms and flip flops. Both men and women will wear that outfit, but I, being a heterosexual male, find it an incredibly sexy outfit for women. See what I mean?

I am playing golf in Palm Springs today. If I run into the Gumbys at a convenience store, I’ll say hi for you. I’ll be back later this evening to tell you how horribly I played.

Or I could come back and tell you how well I played and how I banged the golf cart girl.
