Notes and Comments
As BFC mentioned last week, this week was the Big Freeze, which is the big fundraiser in honor of Neale Daniher, a big time and very popular AFL vet, to find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND), also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The last video above shows the festivities. He, sadly, passed away just before the event this year, so the message hit specially hard.
On the field, Adelaide played their finest game of the year and took down the Cats. Similarly, the Doggies were inspired and took down the Hawks. Two big upsets to start the week.
Fremantle looks unstoppable. They destroyed North Melbourne and are set to cruise until finals. If they can manage their vets well and avoid injuries, they are the team to beat.
The biggest surprise of the week was St. Kilda’s NEAR upset of the Swans. I did NOT expect the Saints to stay within 20 of Sydney.
Finally, outside of the Fremantle game and the Brisbane-Gold Coast Queensland Derby, all the other games were within single digits. That’s good paritying!
The top three in the Tipping Contest remained the same but places 2 through 5 lost ground to the pack. Things are getting interesting as the middle is getting bunched up. Don’t forget to put the tips in!
If you are a member of an AFL club or you got a Watch AFL membership, you should be able to watch every AFL and AFLW game, including replays. Game times vary between Australian afternoon and evening, which actually makes it easier for us in North America to watch as the games can be seeing in the evenings on Pacific Time and early mornings on Eastern time.
If you haven’t become a member of a club or signed up for the Watch AFL app, you can still watch the AFL and AFLW games in the USA on either FS1 or FS2 and in Canada on TSN. Showtimes can be found here on the Australian Football Association of North America website. But I do recommend that you join a club. It’s fun and they send you free shit.
See you next week!
