“The best $600 I ever spent”
Those are my own words. I said them last night just before the final whistle of the Eagles’ victory in Superb Owl LII.
Oh sorry…just before the final whistle of the P*ts defeat. Meh…Potato, Potahto.
But you all better realize I bought that victory for Philly. They owe me a key to the city.
/looks at the city
//returns key
In all seriousness though. How did I buy Philly’s victory? By betting a shitload of dough on the P*ts.
I’ve long known that in spite of enjoying riding a little action now and again, I’m not only not good at gambling, but I can actively change the tide of games if I bet enough. Reverse jinxism. No shit. I’m not joking. Just ask King Hippo. I’ve fucked up plenty of his wagerings by glomming on and betting too much on a particular contest, or set of contests. Oklahoma would be your NCAA Football National Champions right now if I hadn’t fucked it up by jumping on the bandwagon and betting on them. I shit you not.
But I digress….

What Is Making Me Laugh Right Now?
Remember for the past two weeks how everyone was talking about how much of a dynasty New England has been for the past decade and a half? I ‘member. And the folks who were saying that weren’t wrong. The P*ts, love ’em or hate ’em, have been a dynasty. Or at least as close as one gets to a dynasty in the NFL these days. But now? Yeah….
For all the talk about the Patriots’ mystique, the next-level football that Bill Belichick and Tom Brady were perpetrating against the rest of the league, the reality is that New England didn’t blow opponents out in the Super Bowl. In their seven trips this century, the Patriots’ largest margin of victory was six points and that came a year ago in their improbable 25-point comeback against the Falcons. In fact, you could make an easy argument that their 5-2 record could have just as easily been 2-5.
That’s lazy journalism. Revisionist history, if you will. And I have no respect for it.
The fact is that the Patriots ARE/WERE a dynasty (we’ll see what happens going forward and whether that’s over or not). But sometimes even dynasties get punched in the mouth.
Doug Pederson made the call before halftime. He out-Belichicked Belichick. And he made it known that he and the Eagles weren’t there just to make an appearance. They were there to win this shit….
Maybe a bit of a “Fuck You” after this happened earlier…
But I’m fine with that. That’s competition. That’s telling your opponent we’re here to win. We’re better than you. We can do what you couldn’t. It’s the game between the ears.
Oh, there’s also a guy named Corey Clement…
And a guy name Alshon Jeffrey…
But seriously Mr. Journalist, wanna tell me again how the P*ts were paper champions and didn’t deserve the accolades they’ve had? The accolades they’ve rightfully earned, whether we like it or not? When you’ve been spouting for weeks…nay for years…. about how great they are? And oh yeah, shut your piehole you twits. Because you were right the first time. The P*ts’ dynasty will never be repeated in our lifetimes more than likely.
Brady threw for 505 yards and 3 TD’s vs no picks last night. Yet the Eagles STILL found a way to get it done. The Eagles were the better team last night. So fucking get over it already and give the Eagles the credit they’ve rightfully earned. And earn it they did.
You don’t have to rewrite history. History changes, just as it always has. And it did last night I think.
Which is why I was happy to be able to help.
Goddamned right I’m taking credit. The $600 smackers I put on New England for the double reverse jinx (either I get the payoff monetarily, or hopefully I get the jinx in and the team I hate less wins) was totally fucking worth it.
I know I’ll never get the credit I deserve. But I don’t need traditional credit. Just watching this shit was totally worth the dough….
But here’s the bitch of it. I gotta be honest here…
I’m pretty impressed with Brady here. His answers, his honesty, his composure. His Class!!!!! Of course he’s damned disappointed. I would be too. But in that environment, I’d hope that I could carry myself as he did here. Total respect to Brady here. Fuck you if you disagree. You can hate him if you want to, but he came across as a champion here…even if he happens not to have been one this year. We should all be so lucky. Dude has my total respect after last night.
Bottom line…
It was a damned good game. The better team won. Just like Tom said himself at the 4:30 mark of that clip up there.
I have total respect for both sides of this one. I’m happy (sort of) the Iggles won. I’m happy the P*ts lost. But I will not further the hate or disrespect to either side. Not after last night.
Both of these teams were well-prepared. Both of these teams were well-coached. Both of these teams competed hard and with sportsmanship. One had to win, one had to lose. No shame for either side. So get rid of your hate people. Neither side deserves it this time.
Good fucking game. And I’ll fight anyone who says differently.

Totally Worth It
But I’m still out $600 fucking bucks soooo…
I’ll be waiting for my thank you note, Philadelphia. Batteries not included, I hope.
*sigh*

BANNER! I don’t even remember making that post. Welp, back to drinking.
The best banner quotes are the ones you don’t even remember posting.
WHY IS IT SO FUCKING HARD TO FIND THE CLOSEUP SHOT OF BRADY DROPPING THAT FUCKING PASS WITHOUT THE FADEOUT?!?!?!Never mind. I’m an idiot.
Considering how insanely open Brady was, that’s actually a pretty shitty pass.
Agreed. I thought it was more a case of a bad throw than a bad catch.
They were probably both thrown off their game by the fact that the ball was inflated to regulation pressure.
Is this okay?
All my gifs: https://gfycat.com/unsurprised/super_bowl_lii
Alshon Jeffery’s TD catch
Foles to Clement conversion
This made quotables easier this week.
Cool.
I call my apartment Fucktomb because it’s where they all go to die.
We’ve had this discussion before, but I want to point something out here now that I’m near the end of the game. Belichick’s timeout at 2:03 was BAD CLOCK MANAGEMENT. He saves three seconds, but leaves the door open for Philadelphia to throw a pass on their next play (if they want) with no penalty in terms of killing the clock.
I said the exact same thing at the time.
Which means I think you’re smrt.
I think we found WhyEaglesWhy.
It’s Philly. That could be a dude or a girl.
I’m glad I didn’t watch this live. I’d have hated it.
It has begun! I called this btw:
“A woman who worked in Liberal circles has opened up about her experience navigating a federal hiring process that she says was filled with sexual innuendos and led to questionable tactics from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office.”
Too bad Brady couldn’t demonstrate this so-called class on the actual field:
https://www.express.co.uk/sport/othersport/914490/Tom-Brady-Nick-Foles-handshake-Super-Bowl-52-sportgalleries
He probably knew it was really Case Keenum.
😉
Eagles are lining up to refuse the WH invitation. Please, please, please let Trump get pissed off and rescind the invite. It will be delicious.
They should all send him this as their RSVP reply.
🙂
Never Forget … Buddy is an international treasure.
I like seeing comments I have no memory of posting.
It was a hell of a game with the better team winning. With all the holding that the P*triots did last night, I think I would have stopped watching football had they made the catch.
Great news. After thinking death was imminent last night with a 41.3 fever and body cold, I only wish I was dead with a 40.1 fever.
Why are you so cold?
Canadian winter.
Holy shit dude. A fever like that should be treated in hospital.
That’s dangerous territory.
In closing….go to to the hospital.
Guys! GUYS! Wakezilla is a Frost Giant! It all makes sense* now…
*it does not, in fact, makes sense now
In fahrenheit, his fever was pushing 106. That’s brain baking territory.
Watching the game now.
Over/under on times I expect to say “Fuck You, Collinsworth”: 8
Collinsworth jerking off to how good the Patriots defensive front is doing against the run, ignoring the fact that Blount has had two massive runs against them.
It gets exponentially worse in the 4th quarter
Knowing what happens makes edging possible!
I was just glad Ray Lewis was at a non-homicidal Super Bowl.
Great recap for the non-watcher, plus a great group “FUCK TOM BRADY!” chant:

You’re a good man. I’m a P*ts homer and I approve this message
TFW Donald Trump’s favorite team loses
YOU DON’T HAVE A DEFENSIVE COORDINATIOR PATTY
I had 100 bucks on Eagles -2.5 and eagles race to 15 pts and lewis less than 13.5 carries. All is well that ends well. This 730 am flight can pound sand though.
Btw, the Patriots have 10 (TEN!) Super Bowl appearances (most by anyone) and have a record of 5-5 tying them for most losses with Denver and for second in wins with Dallas and San Francisco. The team with the most, of course, being the Steelers. The team with the best percentage is the 49ers with 5 wins out of 6 appearances.
Donks YouTube guy foretold the silver lining of P*ts making the Superb Owl, the chance to tie our record. I just didn’t believe.
They may call themselves the Patriots, but Philadelphia is the true home of any type of “riots”.
I bet they rioted good and proper, too. Vikings fans wouldn’t have done it justice.
I have to go back to my comment about coaches panicking after the Pats take the lead. Pederson didn’t do that. Coughlin didn’t do that. That’s how you beat the Pats.
/btw, I’m still drunk
You have to steer into the wave, and calm the voices in your head.
Again, right is right.
Isn’t that the reason for drinking?
Garropalo would have won it.
#TeamBackFat
Quick reminder that Fatt Stammord is #TeamSkullFat
I am still rage on tilt about my OPI prop bet not coming good. The kind of tilt where I, say, bet $550 ML on Syracuse @ Louisville, because I think GAMBLOR fucking owes me a solid.
Oh dear.
Getting this framed. Gonna be larger than the very large portrait of the Foles TD catch
Really happy for you and CoUla. Keep the faith, man. And it’s knife-twistin’ time!
Shoulda worn a rubber
Also super psyched for the Han Solo movie and WestWorld season 2!!!
Dolores gonna kill some fools!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNW0B0HsvVs
Put Dolores in a nice pair of jeans and a top that lets Hippo admire her shoulders, and she can just kill fuckers for 70 minutes straight each week, coast to coast. BLISS!
I too am interested in the Donald Glover Movie, because that’s what it is after last night
I have to see S1 of Atlanta, even if I have to break down and pay for it on Amazon. Troy has some RANGE!
Philly was the best TEAM all season, and it is fitting that they won, even overcoming an injury to their very good, doofus QB.
I think what the P*ts managed to accomplish this season was more impressive than last, because they faced actual, legitimate tests for once. Beating the Jaguras at their A- game is damned impressive. Scoring 33 on the Iggles’ D without Elisha is, too.
Big picture, I credit the rise of the “new thinking” coach, who understands leverage and maths, and isn’t chained moronically to conventional “wisdom” and the book. What really was the difference between last night and the AFC title game?
Doug Pedersen went for it on 4th and 1.
That’s it. Who cares if the papers will crucify you if you fail, right is right. You want to dethrone a hungry champion, you don’t fight scared.
Look at who else thinks outside the box. Zimmer. McVay. To an almost insane degree, Payton. The best teams in the League alongside JAX (a defensing unit unlike anything else in the League in 10+ seasons, YES even the Donks’ SB squadron) and NE. Belicheat…also coaches this way, and benefitted greatly from a long run of being pretty much the only guy who did.
A motherfucking trick play direct snap reverse pitch to TE TD pass to a QB. Riverboat Ron would vomit at the very thought of doing that in the Super Bowl. The next coach to punt from the opposing team’s 40 should be fired on the sideline.
sobered up.
That game was crazy! big props to Philly Def, Foles & Co.
Heres to next season! Cheers!!!!!
Wasn’t on the livebrog so excuse me if this is redundant —
But how fucking hard would Tom Brady have screamed at anyone else for dropping that pass?
He’d still be screaming.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adLjqbrMQYA
Well said. The Pats and Brady showed utter excellence, and class after the game. Even Gronk; the guy was teary eued and still faced reporters with a brave face. But Pederson: man, he called a game to stomp on the Pats’s throat, without fear of failure. Nick Foles is an assassin. What a team.
And hey: if ya wanna change destiny, be petty about Malcolm Butler and do animal sacrifice. I did my part #JustSayin
Don’t think I didn’t notice the Santísima Muerte on the Open Thread. You should get a half credit too.
Just a reminder: Gronk is a dirty piece of shit that could have ended Tre’Davious White’s career with this cheap shot after the whistle. Fuck him.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmSmYORv5BM
It’s a business, man. I mean, if I had a nickle for every career of a competitor I’ve ended…well, let’s just say I wouldn’t be worrying about parking meters anymore.
[smashes parking meter]

This was very funny to me.
Also this:
I should get a half credit for suggesting this bet in the first place. Did I know the jinx would work? No, but I knew you’d win either way. Granted, I didn’t think you’d put 600 bones on it….
I did my best to avoid this game all day yesterday until the last minute, which was all that was needed. The NFL turned into the NBA so gradually I didn’t even notice…
Hippo also bet $225 ML, based explicitly on your advice.
SWEET!!
It is a small price to pay. FOAR HUMANITY.
But the NFL is not the NBA, in that said minute did not take an hour and a half, of which 80 minutes was thumping bass.
