NFL News:  

• The Patriots are being investigated over Patrick Chung’s concussion in Sunday’s loss to the Swags.
  • He was initially cleared on the sidelines, but after the half was removed from the game for further checks.
  • The League & union are investigating if all the proper protocols were followed.

• Jameis Winston & his grabby hands are now being sued in civil court over his grabbing of the Uber driver.
  • She is seeking damages in excess of $75,000 because of the “damages in the nature of emotional distress and future therapy expenses.”
    • She says she pursued the civil case because of his refusal to accept responsibility for the incident, deflecting any blame that comes his way. Suing him will force him to own his behaviour.
  • Her lawyer is the same one who represented the woman Winston allegedly assaulted at FSU.

• The Eagles have brought back Jordan Matthews.
  • Due to losing half their receivers in only two weeks.
  • He was available because he was cut by the Patriots in August.

• In a choice that would’ve made more sense if the game was on NBC, “The Voice” star Adam Levine will be taking his band Maroon 5 to Atlanta to be the Super Bowl LIII halftime show.
  • It does make sense from an entertainment perspective, because Atlanta is a musical wasteland.
    • (Awaits tWBS’s wrath, akin to what happened when BGR neglected to mention Usher in his 2016 Falcons preview.)

Finally, there’s already some dissension in the ranks after yesterday’s Hall of Famers letter about getting paid.

• Leader of the retired players pushing this cause, Eric Dickerson came out & said each Hall member should receive $300,000 per year.
  • Given the number of living Hall members, that adds up to about $95 million per year.
  • He also wants survivor benefits, which is why they got Reggie White’s widow to sign on.
• Jerry Rice & Kurt Warner have said they are against a boycott, and that their support for the letter was about improved benefits for retired players.
  • Dickerson has apologized for taking liberties with their names & the letter.
    • His defense comes down to, “I was trying to make a point.”

I indeed had beers with Low Commander last night. He’s a charming fellow, with such a deep hatred for Dean Spanos we couldn’t even go for Greek food. Luckily, I had steaks in the fridge. Oh, and he met the dogs; Lambeau was bewildered at the stranger in his house.

It’s always reassuring, if you meet someone in real life & in a strange city, when someone like me screams out the car window at the relatives waving goodbye, “YOU’LL NEVER FIND HIS BODY!”
