- Ezekiel Elliott is not being charged over an alleged incident involving an ex-girlfriend. THE COWBOYS WAY!
- Carson Palmer is looking forward, not back to the NFC title game. Because if he did, he’d still be in the fetal position at home.
- Drew Brees got his extension – 2 years; $44.25 million. Fully guaranteed.
Finally, I just want to pass along some plaudits for all of the Team Previews the members of the Commentist Party have put together. Although lacking the genial bile of Drew’s “Why Your Team Sucks” posts over at Deadspin, they greatly benefit from a certain amount of ingenuity, as there were people who analyzed teams not in their normal viewing habit.

I have been ranting on movies and shows I hate of late and how hollywood can’t make shit anymore.
I just don’t get how studios can see a good movie and not pick up on how not to make shit. For example, the film “Dredd” works brilliantly because the writers and director recognized that Judge Dredd is not a character. He is a set piece. So the film is not about him. He is part of the background universe.
The film is about the character that has an actual character arc…Judge Anderson, played wonderfully by Olivia Thirlby. The movie matches the dark, over the top nature of the Dredd universe without an annoying sidekick. We see an idealistic, unsure young recruit face a brutal society…and she emerges from the story a completely different person..
Even better…there is a tragic villan “Ma-ma” played by Lena Headey. Here we have a brutal drug lord, at one point shown ordering the skinning alive of two drug dealers that has a back story that makes sense she is so brutal. A former prostitute that was brutally tortured by her pimp, she stands up for herself and forces her pain onto the world. Evil…but understandable evil….a relate-able and understandable evil. Not stupid, cackling evil that plagues so many films now.
Good sound track, decent dialogue…nothing “stupid” happens to set up the drama. Its basically Assault on Precinct 13 set in the Dredd universe. Like any good sci-fi movie, if you removed the elements, you would still have a decent film.
Yet Hollywood refuses to make good movies like this. Assholes all you have to do is look at what this movie made at the box office and ….SON OF A BITCH! GODDAMN IT MOVIE GOING PUBLIC! THIS IS WHY ADAM SANDLER MOVIES KEEP GETTING MADE!

People always vote on ideology and get pissy when a candidate doesn’t do 100% of what they say. They never seem to realize good governing that gets the results we want is trying to find a path through millions of people with diametrically opposed goals and interests that actually makes society better. That requires being a ruthless dealmaker at times and the idealists who refuse to accept don’t realize they’d accomplish nothing.

High-speed rail doesn’t really work in the NEC anyway because it’s too built up and the rail network is too old. What matters is frequency of service.
Just making it so that getting from DC to Boston was more timely and about 25% cheaper would boost ridership enough to overcome the reduction in fare. Train travel is by far the easiest and least stressful way to travel, and the first time you arrive in DC after not having had to fight your way through airport security or I-95 traffic will be the last time you ever travel any other way.
I ALWAYS take the train whenever I go to New York. Worth the money.
Cross-continental high-speed rail is such an obviously good idea that it will never happen.
I’m not sure about that. If it’s part of a set of regional networks I think it would work, but nothing is going to beat taking a flight when going from one coast to another.
It’s a moot point anyway since the dipshit G.O.P. governors are too stuck the idea of spending infrastructure money on inducing more traffic by widening roads for ever and ever.
The other thing is that I mean the literal owners of America, especially China and Saudi Arabia. Trump is awful, no doubt. And sadly, the rest of the GOP field was just as awful or, almost inconceivably, worse.
Clinton is, unfortunately, pretty bad as well. She’s an economic neoliberal, a global conflict neocon, and will do nothing to stave off or mitigate our ongoing climatic disaster. However, unlike everyone else on the ballot, she’s not an anti-vaxxer, so there is that.
Frankly, I don’t think *anyone* will stave off our ongoing climate disaster because it requires far too much coordination and agreement across nations to do it.
I do agree with that. I did like seeing Bernie Sanders tackle the question head-on, though, and insist a wartime economy was the only hope.

Sure, there are times when interests coincide.
But take my kvetching about climate change (above). This exists due to the worldwide capitalistic system that encourages constant consumerism over long-term conservatism. Big business will make the case for local wins, as in Arkansas, because it will do them no harm and possibly reap benefits. But when the stakes get difficult, and there are dangers to the profit margin, that’s when you’ll see them back away, and quickly, from any beneficial intervention.
Similar thing happened in GA with a “bathroom bill” similar to North Cakalaky’s hill that McCrory has chosen to die on.

One thing we often overlook here in the Americas is the power of the hereditary title and the peerage in domestic and international European politics. The only major economic power in the EU that has no hereditary nobility to speak of is France; even Germany has a bunch of titular land held over from the days of the Kaisers.
