And we’re back baby. The new servers are all bright, clean and shiny. Or were, we’ve been here for a week now, so someone should really clean up a bit. Someone? Anyone? ya, that’s what I thought, Ferris isn’t cleaning anything. With things slowly returning to normal both front end and back end here, the content has started to flow again. Which means I gotta start taking better notes about what happened last week. lol.
Around these parts, we’re now in a “stay the fuck home’ kinda thing for the next 4 or more weeks. Restaurants are only doing take-out, most retail is closed for in-person shopping, so you need to order online and then pick up. No wandering the isles. The only thing really open is grocery stores and pharmacies but at reduced capacity, like 50% of max number allowed. Oh and the weed and alcohol places are open, cause wez needz those. All kidding aside, I get that those with dependency issues just can’t quit, so they need to remain open. For the big box stores, they have “closed” off the non-essential isles, which makes for some interesting shopping with major portions of stores being off limits. I do like that it levels the playing field for the smaller places that can’t be open for in person shopping due them not having essential items. Hopefully this is enough for the smaller places to make it through this latest lockdown.
Our Covid numbers are setting new records on the daily, while we keep seeing that our vaccine rollout is slow and now delayed due to lack of vaccine availability. I’m now eligible to get the AZ vaccine, just need to wait for my number to come up and then I can go. GTD checks number given. Why is the eight on it’s side. Oh, damn.
As a reminder, this post will cover comments made up to and through the Saturday Night Open Thread. Sunday comments stand alone and Monday comments will go on the next week’s post. Note that during the offseason, I’ll probably look at the Sunday posts.
Without further ado, here are the comments of the week.
Heya folks, still working on some fine-tuning now that we live…AGAIN…please bear with us.

I am in!!! I was skeered yesterday, when my phone cried DANGER! and thought the site was a Russian scam or something. I thought I might never hear from you lovely people again(or Rockingdog)🍾💖😘🎵👍

This site is getting loaded faster than Britt Reid when he has to drive somewhere in the next ten minutes.
Rikki-Tikki-Deadly
In stark contrast to how slow a 5 year old’s brain now operates after Britt Reid rammed into her vehicle on an off ramp.
Mr. Ayo
The new site loads almost as fast as Britt Reid was driving under the influence
Sharkbait
It loads Tiger Woods fast

The very best thing about the NHL trade deadline? The Leafs once again trading away a 1st round draft pick for some old-ish dude that the front office believes is the VERY LAST PIECE that is the key to a successful Stanley Cup victory.

Can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m hoping the Jets trade down and get a stud DB. Give Darnold a shot with (what I think is going to be) a MUCH better HC.
I like to envision Sammy reading this comment and being like, “Finally! Someone who gets how this franchise is being built with –“
And then the ESPN chyron is like, “Sam Dernoold traded to Carolina for a jar of food bank peanut butter”.
blaxabbath
A quick aside: while I know it’s been awful dealing with our now hopefully obvious server issues from the commenter side it’s been equally challenging from the writers side.
I want to take a moment to seriously thank Internet Dad and the collective crew behind the scenes because it was getting kind of gritty up in here.
They had this whole cleaning crew come in. There were hazmat suits and UV rays and those pick up claw dealies to discard the stained undies. We’ve installed air filters and sanitizer stations and I just want to say bravo on a proper crime scene clean up job guys.

Glad to see the site is back to something like copspeed — got my second Pfizer shot today and figuring out if my absence of side effects means I should not claim them tomorrow and bingewatch City on a Hill all day (Kevin Bacon as Tawmmy from Quinzee with an FBI badge is fun!)

My complaint to Carl’s Jr. has paid off with the offer of two free Angus Steakhouse Thickburgers. Which, when redeemed, will mean that I got FOUR burgers for the price of one.
I hereby nominate myself for the First Annual Andy Reid Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence.

Jordan is not better than LeBron. Progress is such that today’s stars are better than those of yesteryear. If we want to compare, I’d ask who changed the game more. Like, look at what Tiger Woods did to bring up the talent level in golf.
And I don’t have the answer — or maybe the real king of transforming basketball is Bill Russell. But is LeBron better than Jordan? Absolutely — and in part because Jordan created a basketball universe that made it easier for the likes of Kobe and LeBron to develop younger and, thus, peak out higher than MJ.

Bernie Madoff died today after serving 12 years of his 150-year sentence . . . yet again paying only a small percentage of what was owed.

That burnt steak makes me want to tie whoever ordered it to a chair, cut off their leg, and cook it in front of them so they can see how it’s supposed to be done.

There’s peoples who keep trying to make the argument that women’s sports are somehow less interesting to watch because “they play at a lower level than the men”
This argument is dumb because
A) They probably watch college or even high school men’s teams, which also play at a lower level than pro men’s teams
B) They probably respect classic sports figures, and since all sports have progressed with time, the greats from 75 years ago play at a lower level than today’s pro teams
C) It’s not uncommon to have something like the US Soccer team where the women both outperform and pull in more money for US Soccer than the men
And lastly
D) Maybe if you put the same resources and marketing into the women’s game people would be as interested in it despite the quality of play! (For references of shitty yet well marketed teams see the entire NFC East)

Is it bad that of all the breakfast options I considered this morning, a Guinness was the most appealing to me?
Rikki-Tikki-Deadly
Drinking some port that I bought at Trader Joe’s a few years ago to go with playing board games online. I have never drank port before. I’m just glad I never had this as a teenager, because this seems like it would have fucked teenage me up with a quickness. The whole bottle would have been drank in about 15 minutes, shortly followed by barfing it right back up.

My first memory of hearing rock and roll music was when I was about 5 years old. My mom had a 1949 Dodge that was thrown in for an extra ten bucks with a house my parents purchased in Sacramento in 1964 or so.
The radio had vacuum tubes and took a while to warm up. But I remember we were driving down the road going somewhere and the distinctive guitar riff of You Really Got Me came on and that was the first time in my life that I reached over to turn the volume up.

Mrs. Cornblower is dealing with hot flashes and we’ve reached an understanding that the best way for me to help is to shut the fuck up and keep drinking more.

Went out to the Santa Cruz mountains to escape the first hot day of summer, redwoods really are amazing trees. Kinda disturbing that the Loch Lomond reservoir is very low this early in year, tangible evidence of just how dry the winter was. Fingers crossed there aren’t too many idiots or lightning strikes or such to get fires started, cause they’re not gonna stop once they catch.

What I hate about atheism is the militant wing. It’s self-defeating. Being chill is the best part of godlessness. Or Not-Catholic anyway.
Don T
I find “lapsed Catholic” to be a spiritual sweet spot. You get all the good philosophical underpinnings with none of the horse shit.
Brick Meathook
Prolapsed Catholics are the best though. They’re (wide) open to new experiences.

Thanks for all the comments and funny and everything else.
