This week, the lights went out in California (more specifically, a one square mile block where my house happens to be in), so I was not able to get the Beat out. Therefore, here we go!
Apologies as one game has already been played. Actually, make that two games. Blame COVID. The AFLW has compressed the schedule to get makeup games in and there was a game on Australian Thursday night and a game on Australian Friday night, which translated to North American Thursday AM and Friday AM. So, yeah. Oopsies!
Welcome to Balls of Steel’s AFL Beat!
Let’s get right to the games that were played last week and the games that have already been played this week.
***
Week 6 Recaps
Gold Coast Suns 49 – 38 Geelong Cats
This was a very exciting game that was closer than the score indicates. It will be interesting to see how far the Suns can move up.
Here are the highlights:
Richmond Tigers 18 – 37 North Melbourne Kangaroos
The Roos are getting hot at just the right time while the Tigers are cooling down greatly from their hot start.
Here are the highlights:
Melbourne Demons 44 – 7 GWS Giants
Yikes! Man, that scoreline is not pretty. Neither was this game if you are a Giants fan.
Here are the highlights:
Fremantle Dockers 51 – 9 Carlton Blues
Another week, another ass-kicking heading Carlton’s way. To think that the media in Australia thought Carlton might get into finals this year…
Here are the highlights:
St. Kilda Saints 26 – 31 Brisbane Lions
The Saints were SO CLOSE to their first win and it was also against the reigning champs! They really played a hell of a game.
Here are the highlights:
West Coast Eagles 22 – 46 Collingwood Magpies
I thought the return to Western Australia would help the Eagles get their season going, but the Pies had other ideas.
Here are the highlights:
Adelaide Crows 48 – 49 Western Bulldogs
In the UPSET of the week (and perhaps YEAR), the Doggies overcame the seemingly-unbeatable Crows. Have they given everyone else the key to beating them? We shall see…
Here are the highlights:
Gold Coast Suns 16 – 85 Brisbane Lions
This was the most points scored by a Lions team in AFLW history. The winning margin? Very nice.
Here are the highlights:

Ladder
Here is how the teams stand after Round 6. Please note that I have included the game that Brisbane played against Gold Coast but NOT the game that Western played against Geelong. Until all the games are made up, it’s going to look screwy anyway, so just roll with it:
P | TEAM | W | L | T | PTS | % |
1 | Fremantle Dockers | 6 | 1 | 0 | 24 | 211.2 |
2 | Adelaide Crows | 5 | 1 | 0 | 20 | 203.2 |
3 | Melbourne Demons | 5 | 1 | 0 | 20 | 176.8 |
4 | Brisbane Lions | 5 | 1 | 0 | 20 | 172.4 |
5 | North Melbourne Kangaroos | 5 | 1 | 0 | 20 | 159.1 |
6 | Collingwood Magpies | 4 | 2 | 0 | 16 | 116.5 |
7 | Gold Coast Suns | 3 | 3 | 0 | 12 | 74.6 |
8 | Western Bulldogs | 2 | 3 | 0 | 8 | 81.1 |
9 | GWS Giants | 2 | 3 | 0 | 8 | 68.9 |
10 | Richmond Tigers | 1 | 5 | 0 | 4 | 85.2 |
11 | Geelong Cats | 1 | 5 | 0 | 4 | 77.6 |
12 | West Coast Eagles | 1 | 5 | 0 | 4 | 55.8 |
13 | Carlton Blues | 1 | 5 | 0 | 4 | 45.5 |
14 | St. Kilda Saints | 0 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 48.4 |

Here it is in all its glory, again taking into account the Brisbane-Gold Coast game but NOT the Western-Geelong game:

Footy Tipping Contest
Here is how we stack up after Round 6:
P | TIPPER | Round Tips | Round Margin | Total Tips | Total Margin |
1 | SonOfSpam | 6 | 17 | 34 | 84 |
2 | Dok Zymm | 6 | 20 | 34 | 118 |
3 | Litre_cola | 6 | 7 | 33 | 111 |
4 | BALLS | 5 | 11 | 30 | 96 |
5 | BFC | 6 | 5 | 29 | 118 |
6 | Game Time Decision | 2 | 5 | 27 | 95 |
7 | 4 | 16 | 27 | 125 | |
8 | Dolph Ucker | 2 | 5 | 24 | 87 |
9 | Fronkenshteen | 2 | 5 | 16 | 71 |
It was a very even week for those tippers that remembered to put their tips in. For those that didn’t (namely Game Time Decision), that meant a costly dive in the standings.
I remind you, as always,
DON’T FORGET TO PUT THE FOOTY TIPS IN!

Balls’ Sechs
- There are no more unbeatens after Adelaide’s stunning upset.
- The cream is rising to the top as the Top Five are pretty much set. The only suspense is who will fill out that sixth spot.
- Last week, I wrote, “St. Kilda is the only winless team left but they do not look like they will stay winless. That first win is coming soon.” They ALMOST pulled it off against Brisbane. I think they win in the next batch of games.
- The West Coast teams were able to play at home, but that didn’t help much.
- The last Finals spot will be decided, I think, by Western and Collingwood with their Round 8 game most likely the decider.
- There some BLOCKBUSTER matchups in Round 8!

That’s all for this week. Given the schedule I just laid out for you, I have no idea when I’ll do the next AFL Beat. Maybe Thursday? See you next week!
Submarines have been so successful at undersea warfare, the French have built a land based submarine. It can reach speeds of 5 mph of level straight paved roads. Its name is Le Terrible which means “The Terrible.”
Oh, boys, girls, and others, I am whooped. I’m going back up to Big Bear tomorrow to get another carload and pet my poor cat. Then Desert Hot Springs, and back to Riverside. I will not be around much. Sunday either, we’re doing the actual moving part. Hoist/burn one for me.
Give your kitteh an extra scritch for me.
best of luck on your future endeavor.
Moving is fucking horrible.
Be safe and may nobody bark their shin on the coffee table.
Pet the kitty.
BTDT.
But did yours have the technicians who were entombed atop the S-IVB during assembly?
How dare you question my assembly skills. We duel at dawn.
Crushing turts.
We need to track this Phil Jameson down and invite him to the clubhouse. He is DFO material! Perchance.
Man Jiffy Pop is really pushing the envelope with their new designs.
The shit that got them to the moon was straight up Jiffy Pop. And so many toggle switches. Scary stuff!
My socks have crossed the war crime threshold from chemical to something biological. There’s no other explanation for something that’s not being removed from a rotting corpse to smell like this.
THIS HAS BEEN YOUR LUXEMBOURG WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION UPDATE
I still stand behind my very recently and semi-arbitrarily Marmalaides fandom! And I agree the Fightin’ Miss Fishers are in for a win soon.
Until then, I am sitting in IAH waiting for my delayed Buenos Aires flight to board. What should I drink on the flight? I’ve been at the cham-pagen for a while, might be time to switch to scotch and soda
Something mild if it’s a long flight. Then you can drink longer.
I wanna be you when I grow up.
You need a nice dry red. Malbec sounds good right now.
LOL
NATO should just offer European citizenship to any Russian soldier who wants to defect. Within an hour Russia will have no army.
I can have potato AND beet?! DA! DA! SPASIBA!
Just got to Riverside. Hanging for a few days while the sisters in law are taking a break in Cambria. Not the greatest timing when we’re moving, but that’s how it worked out. We have been busy all day, took a bunch of stuff from Big Bear to the new house. Lot’s of driving, way too much I-10. And I missed the first Request Line! Dammit! But the good news is, I have a brand new vape and gummies. And girl scout cookies!
Godspeed, moving ain’t no fun. But you’re properly equipped.
DFO HOUSEWARMING PARTY.
I’ll being a casserole.
I’ll being a potato salad with extra Mayo
I’ll make cap’n crunch guacamole
I’m sorry to have frozen the comments at 69! I’m sure you understand, though.
Finally having that mai tai. This was actually a recipe I put together for the Dr. Mrs.’ cousin’s birthday, called the Lanai Tai:
1 part silver rum
1 part gold rum
1/2 part amaretto
1/2 part Canton ginger liqueur
1 part orange juice
1/2 part lime juice
1/2 part lemon juice
1/2 part pineapple juice
1/4 part grenadine
Shake over ice, then pour into a collins glass with more ice. Garnish with a cocktail spear of pineapple and ginger candy
When will science finally get off its lazy ass and create ONE citrus furit that just has all the flavors mixed together?
They should be all stuck together, like an everlasting gobstopper!
I was thinking like an orange, but each segment is a different flavor. That way you can eat them separate if you want, or shove it into a juicer and get the combo!
Yeah, but you’d only have one kind of zest.
Scientists can make a multivarient vaccine (well, we’ll see) but they can’t make a citrus fruit with eight different flavored segments? DO SOMETHING, CONGRESS!
I would drink two of those, and go streaking through Riverside like it’s 1974 again! The ginger sounds really good, probably tones down the citrus. Hey, you’re in SoCal, bring me one!
Tonight’s batch were the best we’ve had so far. It’s funny presenting this recipe to a woman who has had a liver transplant, but it wouldn’t be a mai tai if it weren’t boozy and complicated. Besides, she has servants to mix it for her.
OG’s!
From “Man vs Nature: The Road to Victory”
Very bad matchup. To have a chance, Man’s gonna have to create turnovers and make several 2-point conversions.
PEW!

Was gonna comment about my trip to the dispensary this PM but something popped in my mine and laughed so yard I had a coughing fit.
In short, HAIIIIIIII
Damnit, I want to lock down Request Line at 69 comments…but…but nothing. The theme is “sex”, of COURSE I have to lock it down.
Parallel parking requires a a nautical license
Did they make that one, or was it a concept car? It is sexay as fuck!
They’re real, and they’re spectacular.
I would totally drive that land yacht! You know that thing had an ernormous engine, I bet you could comfortably cruise around 100.
I really like small cars, but I would make an exception for this. It’s proper huge, not stupid plasticy huge like modern SUVs
I’m watching the Canadian mounties “trampling” some convoy idiots and all I can think of is this:
I hope the guy got the photo because it would be an awesome shot. Video from that camera would be even better.
This is pure art at its finest, no wonder you got into at least one Ivy.
And some not allowed ones:

No football and no baseball make Redshirt something something.
I’m embracing my inner redneck watching NASCAR truck racing.

I’d get used to the “no el beisbol” if they’s any before 4 July I will be shocked
Agreed. Both sides hate and distrust each other more than Democrats and Republicans and Trumpublicans. Sadly, I’m rooting for the Owners because the players want uncontrolled growth of salaries and that will continue to make small and middle market clubs like the Cincinnati Reds at a disadvantage.
With the current setup, there is no way the Cincinnati Reds can ever put together a surprise run like the Cincinnati Bengals did this past year. If the NFL was like MLB, they wouldn’t be able to put together the defense through free agency and they probably would’ve traded away Tyler Boyd a year or two ago because they couldn’t have afforded his second contract (that drop notwithstanding (not his fault (shit happens))).
Sup
Got high, opened some wine, ordered Blizzards delivery from DQ. Week off of work starts now.
getting a tune out of YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYAM IT!! as well
Yam it. Always!
They really are the NASCAR of kits.
I bet $40 on Xolos comeback win, because if I was a ref I would let Xolos come back if they wanted.
I had no idea that the bobsled track was so windy. It’s got a full-on spiral in it.
